Jonathan & Jesus (2024– )

Even better than I imagined
6 January 2024
I have followed the rising career of Jonathan Roumie since 2019 when I first watched The Chosen. At the beginning of 2020 he began an online prayer group and I don't think I missed a single session, even though the practices of our Christian faith were different. That's one of the things Jonathan taught me. That opening my mind also opened my heart. This docudrama shows how hard he has worked and how the unexpected fame has affected him. I already knew he was walking a rocky path but I really had no idea how hard the struggles were. And in case you think the persona is all acting, you're wrong. I met him once in person and what you see in this documentary is exactly what you get. Jonathan Roumie is more than an accomplished actor - he's an extraordinary human being.

Getting better and better
14 April 2021
I thought The Chosen could not possibly get any better than season one, but season two has blown me away. Not only is the casting and acting spot on - the whole production continues to be inspiring and down to earth wonderful.

The only Poirot
16 April 2020
David Suchet IS Poirot. There is no doubt about it. His acting and interpretation made this series what it is and I'm sure Dame Agatha is very pleased, wherever she is. (Yes, I know she's deceased) This is my second attempt at a review so if the other one finally goes through, it will have more detail.

A story of its own
16 April 2020
The only real drawback to this series is that Morse preceded it which put these actors and writers at a disadvantage to start with. That said, I think they do a great job of becoming "new" while retaining the character of the earlier series that was so popular. I actually find Endeavor more enjoyable because the lead character bounces back from adversity better than Morse did.

Character perfection
16 April 2020
The amazing acting of David Suchet makes this series a hit. I've seen other actors portray Poirot and none come as close to what I believe Dame Agatha had in mind as this one does. (I have seen him in other roles that were so different I had to peer closely to be sure my eyes weren't deceiving me) He IS Poirot. Always will be for me.

Fascinating photography
16 April 2020
As in the later parts of this offering that I reviewed, I failed to give it a full 10 because, although David Attenborough is a fine narrator, something about his voice puts me to sleep! Therefore, I taped the series to watch later.

Extraordinary photography
16 April 2020
I loved each and every episode and actually taped them to rewatch. The only reason I didn't rank the series with a 10 was the soporific tones of David Attenboro's voice. Unfortunately, he relaxed me so well I often dozed off, hence the reason for taping. :)

The Chosen (2017– )

Amazing!
14 April 2020
The Chosen is far and away the best, most incredible, most believable, most relatable retelling of Jesus ministry I have ever been blessed to see. And it is just getting started! I stumbled on the opportunity to watch streaming video and was immediately convinced I had to own the DVDs. That's helpful because, unlike most movies and TV shows, it can be watched repeatedly without ever getting old. Am I enthused? You betcha! And as the author of over 60 Christian novels I must also praise the character development and story line. It sticks to scripture, yet portrays such realism of the historical setting it blows me away.

Season 1 is available now but Season 2 is still in the works, to be followed, I sincerely hope. by many more. Valerie Hansen/Valerie Whisenand

Hard to watch but worth it
14 April 2020
This film is gut-wrenching and hard to watch, yet for a Christian I think it's one to strongly consider. I've managed to watch it all the way through three times and each time I weep, which shows how deeply Christ's death affects me, as it should. The film served its purpose by focusing believers on all that Jesus endured at the end of his time on earth and in doing so, helped me appreciate the sacrifice even more. That's why I rated this movie so high.

Good effort
14 April 2020
I remember when watching this movie that I saw the characters, many of them at least, as too wooden. Not human enough in an effort to appear holy and tell this difficult story. It is a great story and I gave them a 7 for their efforts. It had to be hard to do.

Grandeur os the imagination
14 April 2020
I like this film because it makes Moses bigger than life and has a way of showing events in a polished, acceptable way, but I only gave it a 7 because I prefer a bit more realism, That said, I also realize that in the time it was filmed, this was the accepted representation. It is a treat for the eyes and senses.
