The Prophecy (1995)
Interesting Stuff!!
6 March 2003
One of the most bizarre things is that no one has commented on the fact that this is written (and directed) by Gregory Widen ie the guy who wrote Highlander. Like Highlander this is a great idea that makes you question belief and faith, mortality etc. Those people who are complaining that it doesn't portray angels right...what planet are you on...by that I mean...there are complaints that it shows angels to be violent and dangerous and this isn't right as Angels are pure etc etc...excuse me Christian faith (as it is Christians who seem to bitch about this the most...oh and I am one ;) is based on the fact that Lucifer was capable of this...and so were his minions. The notion of a second war is really cool imo. Lucifer's sin was Pride and Gabriel's is Envy...I thought you could potentially go through the 7 deadly sins and have numerous wars...could be many interesting movies here...ok Sloth would be dull...but the sequel could have been Wraith...against man, god and Lucifer...or perhaps Greed...this time with Lucifer as the main Villan...wanting more angels and tempting them with other sins perhaps...I don't know...but all in all I really enjoyed this movie...saw the first sequel this weekend and it was pretty dull!!!

Kolobos (1999)
Too much of a good thing?
16 July 2001
Basically a great film. The tension is here in bucket loads but it never lets up. For instance I felt that each death was terrible in its own right and then they would show us just a little too much for a little too long. Leave something to the imagination, that way I will actually watch the screen instead of turning away. I know some people get off on the gore but this movie actually had an interesting and contemporary story to tell and could have been popular with mainstream audiences.. a shame and proof as far I am concerned that you can have too much of a good thing. I look forward to seeing more of these two directors work.

Watch this at least once!!!
6 July 2001
Now I will be honest, I do not like this film. I feel this is part of Oliver Stone's career where he disappeared up his own behind for a few years. And as he should he took a camera with him and shot what he found. In short this film is what he found up there, fascinating but not particularly good.

I found the over all style initially interesting but eventually overused and dull. The characters were great, but again over indulgent direction took away from a lot of the central themes of the movie. That said the climatic scenes in prison and Micky and Mallory's eventual escape were, and still are, incredible. I would recommend for any film fan to watch this film at least once but remember, as with all art, controversial does not equal good (or bad), and I think a lot of people make the mistake of confusing what was intended with what actually appears on the screen.

Anyhow even Tarantino disowned this mess and tried to get his name removed. Watch True Romance instead, it is a much better film!!!

Not What I expected at all!!!
25 June 2001
I loved this movie. I have seen pretty much all of Adam Sandlers other stuff and like it, but this was insane. It is just so strange in places, and so cruel!!! I have never laughed so hard in my life...well ok thats a lie but I would recommend this to anyone. Switch the brain down (not off though this is not a total no brainer) and enjoy. Oh if you can get a DVD copy watch the deleted scenes and see the depraved and sometimes painful stuff they cut out... the scene with the cop blew my mind!!! Oh and wait for Ozzy...I really did not see that coming!!!

I don't understand did everyone see the same movie?
14 May 2001
This is one of those cracking movies that is so bad it comes out on the other side as an instant classic. Be honest looking at the cast, story line etc what did you expect. I find this movie a guilty pleasure and would recommend it as a good 90 minutes to while away an afternoon.

Ronin (1998)
Two episodes of The Sweeny.
8 May 2001
This film was a major disappointment. It felt like two episodes of a 1970s cop show. Two great car chases do not a movie make!! And they are great but the rest of the film just drips along wasting a great cast, and what on earth is Sean Bean up to? He is there for about 5 minutes and could not do enough research to figure out the Boathouse at Hereford is Blue, or the more realistic response which would be I couldn't give a s**t!! Most of the Army and Air Force guys I know from there would go for the latter. Oh well, many people I know really enjoyed this but if you want a good movie avoid, if you want an adequate way to waste a couple of hours, knock yourself out!!!
