will make you nuts. . .
23 December 2010
One of the worst movies I have seen in the recent times. Usually i would try to find some good point in a movie, but no matter how I crack (no wonder I just watched nutcracker!) my head . . . nothing. Well, I do not want to take the credit away from the character of Mary, which was the only respite due to which at least I am rating 2 out of 10. When you go for such movies usually plot is not up for critical review, but this movie beats the lowest of the standards. Music is terrible, actors (except Elle) are worse, the flow of the movie allows anybody to keep jumping out for some popcorn. One might expect at least some 3D effects to feel compensated for the time, but clearly the movie (except for the first few scenes) are much late adaptation for 3D and literally makes you feel cheated. Usually, such movies that are targeted towards younger audiences manage extra chuckles from the young ones in the theater, but this movie succeeded in getting yawns from them!.

Watch it and Dance
25 September 2010
Spectacular dancing. Overall rating of 4 something on IMDb is not doing justice to the movie. I did not expect some great story from this movie, but I wanted to watch character development and some dance on 3D. And the movie exceeded my expectations. The characterization was solid, it wasn't like some dancers picked from 'think you can dance' and just let them dance in front of the camera. Luke, Natalie, Moose, and Camalian, were all believable characters and fully into the movie. And now about the dance - WOW!! the effect on 3D is a treat to watch. Opening dance sequence lays the solid ground for oncoming dance sequences. Effect of dance on water is sublime. Music is great. There wasn't a moment in the movie to complain about. Seriously, the rating is just off the mark. Do watch this movie to appreciate the effect of pre-production 3D planning, unlike so many movies that are made 3D post-production. I would surely watch it again!.

Worst reproduction of an excellent TV series
15 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
What was the director thinking or why was he not thinking? I am sure that he did not watch the popular series based on which this movie is made. What was wrong in the movie - 1) The director did not take time to develop any character due to which it is impossible to relate with the reasonings and connect with the emotions, which were so impeccably portrayed in the TV series. 2) For some stupid reasons this director chose to take out all the fun from the TV series and make the movie. For example - the character of Sokka and Uncle Iroh who makes us tickle in the TV series were given serious faces in the movie. No witty comments throughout the movie. 3) Director had no grasp on the concept of the 'avatar' commuting through the spirit world, due to which it was only a light and show in the movie. Due to which the climatic fight sequence fell flat conceptually. 4) It also seems that 3D was planned later in the project as only few scenes has real 3D depth. Amongst the actors the part played by Katara was likable. I am sure that this movie has killed all the hopes for any future project on this movie - though I would love to see Peter Jackson directing this adventure of 'avatar'.

Predators (2010)

Nonsensical sequel
18 July 2010
I would rather watch the original again than wasting my time watching this sequel. 'Fear is reborn' is the tag line in many reviews, for which I fell. The 'predator' in the movie is exactly the same as was in 1987, its moves were predictable and exactly the same in the original due to which there was no thrill or so called 'fear'. The only difference was that this time they were more than one. After the first few minutes it was clear what would happen in the movie, who will survive, and how it will just end at one point without making a point. However, acting was excellent and Brody in action hero role was believable. I was not sure if he would be able to carry this role given that I watched him as a helpless survivor in The Pianist, but hats off to him.
