Two thirds are great
21 April 2020
This is a very good documentary about the inception of the video gaming industry. Sadly the documentary narrows down the playing field and ultimately figures out it's run out of minutes to tell the story how it should be told and introduces a conclusion too fast.

I enjoyed the Atari segment - Activision and EA should've had a bigger place also. Nintendo and Sega bits felt indulgent and rushed and ultimately the docu stops around 1999 - leaving out another 20 years in the industry.

In conclusion this film has a horrible title, features fascinating people but fails to string the narrative in a cohesive fashion post 1985.

First Love (2019)

Pulp Fiction Cinema

This was a fun little action movie that lived and died on the notion of subverting tropes. It was ultra violent, occasionally romantic and somewhat whimsical. It is very reminiscent of early 90s movies that were trying to pack as much crazy as they could. The biggest flaw of the movie is bad sound mixing. The movie was dubbed in American English and in process the audio was not mixed well - resulting in ambiental sounds being often barely audible and in hilarious dubbing being overly loud and incredibly strange. In the end it left me entertained but empty. I will not be seeking out more movies from the director but I won't be avoiding them either

This movie has everything - except a competent director
21 March 2020
Saturday Fiction has a very attractive premise but it fails to deliver. The movie is set in war torn Shanghai during World War 2. The protagonists find themselves toying the lines between two fractions of Chinese government, Japanese and the Allied forces. The impetus for the plot is staging of a play called Secret Agent featuring a very popular Chinese actress and her former paramour who is directing the play.

The bad news is the movie fails to communicate any of this effectively. The director is obsessed with self indulgent cliched shots. He tries to bring in a personal touch with the handheld camera but he's not competent enough to actually communicate plot effectively so the handheld camera drags on, delivering plenty of pensive shots of the leads staring through windows looking at the rain, smoking and smelling each other. The action is also subpar. As with most movies shot in this style he relies on gunshot loudness to stun the viewer into submission. The movie is also shot in black and white. This neither helped or hindered the movie in my mind however it did highlight the limits of the director even more.

This style directly clashes with his inability to portray a passage of time so he frequently utilizes chirons to explain a day had passed. And ultimately he's left explaining one of the biggest plot points with a chiron in the last quarter of a movie.

The silver lining is the acting. This movie is impeccably cast and the actors go above and beyond to overcome the limits imposed on them by an unimaginative director.

The movie is too long. Too self indulgent but somewhere in there there's a good story - I suspect in the book the movie is based on. If you're a history buff who is already familiar with the World War 2 impact in Asia I suspect you will enjoy this. Otherwise there's plenty of other movies to watch.

Black Swan (2010)
8/10
Portman might be an incredible talent but there's only so much she can do with bullet ridden story
20 December 2010
Today I had an opportunity to screen one of the anticipated movies of 2010, Black Swan. Like the character in the movie suggest- ballet is not for everyone, and as it turns out, not for me. While I enjoyed the complex portrayal of Nina Sayers (N.Portman), I was somewhat underwhelmed with the remaining aspects of the movie. Wizard who is responsible for bringing us the ultimate drug addiction tale "Requiem for a dream", Darren Arnofsky, significantly underachieved and got swallowed up by the worst kind of a monster- mediocrity. While Portman dances skillfully amidst issues such as being over-controlled, inhibited and somewhat destructive the rest of characters don't really bring anything to the table. Mila Kunis who portrays the role of the uninhibited effortless seductress, the Black Swan, fell short and while she was believable the character was noticeably underdeveloped.

However flawed the story might be, it's worth watching, so see it if you have the opportunity

An Education (2009)

"An Education" is an entertaining movie who introduces us to charms of a life experience, and the price that rushing has on our lives.

First and foremost it is an interesting story that teaches us of battle between the value of life education vs plain education that's made many people stray in the past, especially in the 1960s.

It is a cautionary tale for all of them overprotected and all of them who seem too good to be true.

Wonderful performance by Peter Sarsgaard , and a decent breakthrough performance by Carey Mulligan. Olivia Williams also deserves credit for her wonderful performance in a supporting role.

I wholeheartedly recommend watching this movie, if not for anything else, for the portrayal of 1960s atmosphere in London.

The Hitcher (2007)

Intense and refreshing horror experience
23 January 2007
Great horrors are a rare kind these past few years and great re-makes are even more rare.

This movie was already on a high horse when they casted brilliant Sean Bean for the role of "Jon Ritter or whoever he is". The story just kept getting better with a amazing, talented Sophia Bush signing up for the role of Grace Andrews. Zachary Knighton was solid but not even close to performances Bean and Bush delivered. The script had to be re-made almost completely and the solutions they came up with work well but still are pretty far from real. Another thing that is fairly surprising for this movie is a really good soundtrack. First scene even begins with All-American Rejects- Move Along which really pumps up the atmosphere of the beginning and enhances few comic reliefs in the first scenes.

One of the biggest let downs of the movie is length. Whole movie is about 85 minutes which pass very quickly.

One thing that is irreplaceable is the feeling at the ending, pretty similar to one you get when you finish watching Brad Pitt movie "Se7en". So intense feeling in your stomach and a big emotions that overwhelm your brain.

Watch this movie if not for the stunts, for 2 actors that gave their best performance that will surely establish The Hitcher as a movie of the new coming generation.

The O.C.: The Earth Girls Are Easy (2006)
Season 4, Episode 8
WoW! exciting, thrilling, paced up. TheOC as we know it
22 December 2006
WoW! This episode is amazing. It's so thrilling, suspense, emotional, heart wrenching and innovative and inspirational! While I was watching it I was able to shutdown everything around me and just focus on the characters and their troubles. I believe this to be only introduction for the even more SS drama and Ryan's drama. I read spoilers but I still haven't seen this coming! the OC deserves season 5 if the rest of the episodes is half as good as this one! This episode is incredibly well directed and that influenced the whole impression. It starts with Summer and Taylor in some public restroom over a pregnancy test and then it goes 7 hours earlier. I was surprised that Kandy didn't protest Seth waiting for Summer to go to College. The pragnency drama is maxed out and leaves us to a place we're not sure one of Sethummer wants to be. Brody did well, the freak out, the proposal, the whole thing. This episode is really paced up and it seems real and not predictable. When the test was out I wasn't sure even what I wanted it to be. Rayolor had some mild drama compared to SS but still worth watching. Grownups are so not the reasons I watch this show but I loved Julies drama and dilemmas.

I BOW TO JOSH AND CAST AND CREW for what I believe is one of the most amazing episodes this show had seen!

The Last Kiss (2006)

Amasing experience that proves that life isn't a fairytale and that somehow we make it through the day
13 December 2006
Real, stunning, dramatic The Last Kiss is one of the best movies of the year. Great casting was a crutial part of the experience. Braff represents a every other guy, Barett is every other girl and Bilson... she's (wow) besides gorgeous very believable temptress. Olsen and Affleck (Casey) also star and they were funny on several occasions.

This movie is a composture of several stories each very interesting. This is how life is and how temptation come and how hard is to resist them. There are several breaking points and each is worth seeing. Movie is rated R for a reason. Many sexual, but tastefull scenes. It balances between comedy and drama Amasing experience that proves that life isn't a fairytale and that somehow we make it through the day.

The O.C.: The Cold Turkey (2006)
Season 4, Episode 3
10/10
Heartwrenching drama filled with charming love and witty humor
14 November 2006
Josh Schwartz is really on to something. Too bad my sources say that the OC got the call about being canceled yesterday.

Summer struggles with her emotions which she avoids and by doing so avoids Seth, creating him pain and many awkward silences. One of the saddest episodes in the history of the OC. Julie and Ryan start dealing with pain. Summer starts facing it. Her father on the other hand is moving to Seatle Grace (sounds familiar? it should Grey's Anatomy). Volchek is finally giving him self up and closing a painful chapter of Misha Barton's presence in one of my favorite shows.

Beware more powerful scenes coming up as Summer tries to return to her old self and Seth visits Brown.

Tune in and WATCH THE OC, you won't regret it.

Brillint unveiling of sex,love
12 October 2006
Let me start off with saying that casting is brilliant. We have best men Clive Owen and Jude Law and the best ladies Roberts and Portman.

The story of two pairings, 2 men, a woman and a girl. The movie is a series of events in life of fallen writer Dan. The movie is accurate about love, about sex. This movie isn't hard to watch and it definitely breaks illusions in our eyes. Makes us see how people work, what kinds of love exist. The movie is a brilliant achievement, only improved with great performers. This movie rocked my world and It's one of those movies I could watch over and over. However, I would not recommend this movie if you're looking for fun or are particularly happy person euphoric about life.

Truly magnificent movie
5 October 2006
My eye was drawn to this movie because it stars Ed Norton(who made his name in cult movie Fightclub) and Jessica Biel.

This movie is set in Vienna. It follows life of a brilliant man Eisenheim through eyes of local chief inspector. Norton portraits Eisenheim very beliavble and introduces us in the world of Austrian prince, dutchess and the magician.

The script is one of a kind, it truly moves us and creates illusions within us. It touched me, made me cry and laugh at the same time.

I strongly recommend watching this movie weather you believe in magic or not, this is a movie about a man who broke out of his world and amazed and deceived (in a good way) everyone.

Miami Vice (2006)

Thrilling movie ruined by bad directing and unclear vision
15 September 2006
Movie is remake of popular 1984 series.

Colin Farrel and Jamie Foxx were convincing, sexy and confident. Howerver Colin Farrel doesn't seem anything like Don Johnson. Why did they think an Irtish guy should play blond American? This casting reminds me of Tara Raid playing a scientist...

This movie successfully portraits life of 2 extremely good undercover cops who aren't afraid to get dirty. Action scenes are a little unclear and the camera shakes a lot. I am not a fan of that perspective. Soundtrack is great. The feeling after watching this movie is satisfying but not spectacular.

If you enjoy the action, some sexy scenes, mild storyline and leading actors be sure to watch it.

The I Inside (2004)

average, thinking material- not for shallow superficial people
9 September 2006
I was thrilled to see Ryans performance in this movie and i must say I wasn't disappointed by it. The movie is about letting go and how every choice you make shapes your future. I was disappointed by length and the ending of this movie. This movie isn't a must see but it sure is nice for the eyes and thinking material. If you like movies about destiny you'll probably be thrilled but not impressed. This movie isn't a classsic but it deserves to be watched. Rent this if you're in the mood to be creeped up and entertained. There's not much more i can say without revealing contents of the movie. If you are delaighted with uncertain movies that clear up in the end this is the choice for you. Hop you aren't disappointed

Much worse then the book
22 August 2006
this movie isn't very good and the experience is much better if you read the book, book moves you more and hits you directly in the hart (written by Federico Moccia). Also, it's in Italian so that's another no. Male actor is hot while the female looks a little nerdy to me and doesn't capture Babi's personality well. Aditional characters are good and the movie is exciting and is mostly based on anticipation of love and first hookups. You we'll miss a great experience if you don't watch it. This Drama/romance is something that will deeply move you and make you cry in a good way over life that passed and that's going to pass. It describes first loves, broken harts and passing life exceptionally well. I wish they make Hollywood version because this movie will be a blockbuster. Just so you know, Roman teenagers send this book with short messages so that tell's much about popularity and quality of this book
