Inside Out (2015)
An absolute classic, even though it's new
This movie is absolutely brilliant - it provides an abstraction of the human mind in such a simple and ingenious way that I was totally lost for words once I finished it. The movie has not only touched in many aspects of the emotions and how they impact our decision-making process, but it has also come up with a beautiful way of illustrating how memories are affected by the emotions and how, consequently, it impacts our personality.
I cannot recommend this one enough - I have watched it over 10 times and I'm still baffled by the conclusion and the meaning of it to the public. It is a movie for grown ups, just like many of Disney's, but it is the first Disney movie that I really think that grown ups MUST watch. I would give it an eleven if I could.
Arrival (2016)
An emotional story with an amazing conclusion
This was, hands down, one of the best movies I've ever seen. An emotional, incredibly well written sci-fi movie with an exceptional entanglement of diverse events which are fully tied up at the end.
The movie starts off with a clear problem to be solved: the communication gap between the human and an alien race, a problem that branches into a series of events involving the human nature, the government and the main charater herself. What was great about it? The main plot, naturally, but also what happens as it unfolds. I cried my eyes out when I figured out what was going on, but not because I found it sad - it was just beautiful.
7 Prisioneiros (2021)
A very sad yet necessary story
I found this movie to be extremely powerful - a sad, yet totally necessary depict of a reality that most of us choose not to think about. It's a great movie, but very difficult movie to watch though - I was feeling really sick once I finished it.
Everybody should watch it, but on an empty stomach probably. It makes you think.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Better than The Shining
Being a huge fan of SKs work, I was quite disappointed with The Shining for not sticking to several of the author's original ideas. This movie is not 100% equal to the book either; in fact, the ending is totally different... however, the main ideas are kept unchanged: the supernatural touch, Dan's connection to Abra and Dick Hallorann and his fight against alcoholism, to say the least. Speaking of the ending again, I must admit that it's even BETTER than the originals. I was going to give it a 7, maybe a 6 after Billy and Dave's death and the 30sec appearance of John Dalton.... but the ending was so amazing (they even fixed the original The Shining's mistake of not burning the Overlook down!) that I changed my mind.
VERY nice. I'd totally see it again and recommend it.
