Road to Revenge (1993)
Vanity project gone wrong
John de Hart wrote, produced, starred, directed, and did the singing and music composition for this "I Love Me" film. And he was a trainwreck at each job, even after 3 reworks. His character is a Mary Sue of course (or whatever the male equivalent is), but ironically when he is onstage at the "bar" singing one of his own songs, he has this cringeworthy "deer in the headlights" look the entire time. Using another of his songs as an overlay also sucks the life and any eroticism out of what should be an exciting scene where the main gets to undress and have fun with a Playboy centerfold. And unlike Neil Breen and Ed Wood films, this movie simply has no charm to create some kind of saving grace. There is no path forward to recommend this in any way.
Realive (2016)
Trying to keep up with technology
This movie is basically a very thoughtful and provocative essay on the dangers of technology outpacing societal mores and the legal system. There are no real antagonist, except perhaps the protagonist himself. I was immersed and captivated by the story despite the slow pacing, The only downside for the film is the message that it delivers -- that the future is for our children and grandchildren, and not for us.I am not saying that this message is wrong, but only that it is a depressing one to contemplate if it is right.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
A terrible disappointment
The first Wonder Woman movie saved the DC franchise. This one may have ended it. The actors did their best with what they were given, but the story was a joke. It made no sense, it was all over the place, and the plot holes prevented any chance for suspension of disbelief. Honestly, this should have been a direct-to-video sequel done on a tenth of the budget. DC needs to start from scratch and rebuild starting with a few solid, simple movies. It's a pity, because I really wanted to like this movie.
Gravity Falls (2012)
Catching lightning in a bottle
This is an amazing series, and it is hard to NOT binge watch it -- so be prepared if you start :) It's a fun comedy/mystery/slice of life that has surprising world building, some very cool twists, and an all around big heart with a positive message.
The Darkest Hour (2011)
Fun action Sci/Fi
I'm not sure what people were expecting, but the movie delivers what it promises. It's a Sci/Fi action flick with some fun twists, dealing with non-traditional aliens in a non-American setting. Maybe that's what turned people off? I found it to be a refreshing plus.
Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs (2019)
A really cute and solid animation entry
It's nice to see something fresh and positive right about now. And as a nice bonus it is from a really new studio that's not named (or owned by) Disney. It is a South Korean production, so some things (like the initial advert) didn't translate very well to Western audiences. But the final product was polished and top notch. This will be in my replay list for a long time to come :) If you are in the mood for a classic fairy tale with a saucy modern kick, then this is for you.
