Twist (2021)
One word... Utter Dross!
Well that was two words. But you know what I mean, right?!
Firstly, I have to say, Rita Ora was terrible in this film. She has absolutely no acting chops at all - you could see her literally reading the script in her mind. Just terrible.
Talking about the script... it was poor. So, so, poor. I really don't know how this project managed to get the green light with a script of that quality.
Rafferty Law was also bad in this film - poor acting, again. Although not as bad as Miss Ora.
I could go on, but I think that watching this film has resulted in me losing too many brain cells. So, to avoid the same fate, avoid this film at all costs!
Palmer (2021)
One word... Amazing!
I absolutely loved Palmer - it was such an amazing film!
I'm normally sceptical about singers taking on acting roles - I generally prefer artists to stay in their own lane. But Timberlake does a fine job, here. Alisha Wainwright as Maggie provided a wonderful supporting role, too (and is she related to Alisha Keys?!!? She looks so alike her).
But the standout performance for me came from Ryder Allen as Sam. Just amazing. Hopefully we'll see more from this talented young man in the future.
I thoroughly recommend Palmer.
Enterprice (2017)
Another gem!
Enterprice is another gem that I've discovered during my lockdown binges of iPlayer, and Netflix!
I'd never heard of Kayode Ewumi before, but googled him and found he was that 'knowing' meme. So I just had to watch this series. Glad I did - lovely way to spend a few hours watching the antics of these friends as they try to start their business.
Season 1 was great, but season 2 was much better - with a more in-depth story and better acting performances all round. Two standouts for me - both from Season 2:
* Fatou Sohna who plays Simi - OMG! This girl is going to go FAR.
* Jerry's scenes at the end of S2, Ep 4. WOW - this brought me to tears!
Recommended! And looking forward to season 3.
In the meantime - Keep it Speedi!!!
Man Like Mobeen (2017)
This is hilarious!
During lockdown I've been binge watching a lot of stuff on BBC iPlayer, Netflix, etc. And this is one that I've always seen on my 'recommended' but never thought to check it out.
What a mistake I made! Man Like Mobeen is hilariously funny. I've only finished Season 1 for now, but am looking forward to starting the next one!
Some characters are real-life - and some just caricatures - but they mix together well. Guz Khan does a great job in the lead role, and the supporting actors who play Eight and Nate are superbly cast. Great stuff!
I May Destroy You (2020)
Wow! Just WOW! (too much sex, tho)
As the title says, I REALLY loved this tale. In fact, I created an IMDB profile to post about this show as I watched it all in one sitting over the weekend.
I love Michaela Cole and was really happy to see what she did here. For my experiences, as a young queer girl growing up in Hackney some of this hit the nail firmly on the head. The drug taking was/is always there (although I don't partake myself) and the hookup apps are definitely part of the scene. It feels risky at times, and this certainly comes across in I May Destroy You.
My only criticism was that I think we could have done with slightly less of the sex scenes - especially the guys which I found a little too graphic.
Also, I found that the main plot point of the story (the rape) kindof got lost along the way. But, other than that - love it. Looking forward to the next season!
