Anurager Chhowa (2022)
Absolutely the worst Bengali serial ever
This is what happens when you let a 2 year old write scripts, and a bunch of incompetent actors act to create a Bengali soap.
The character of Deepa is horrible and so is the actor playing this character. Jail seems like a vacation spot where the antagonist Mishka goes in and out as she wishes. The character of Surjo is a renowned doctor, yet he doesn't bother to check the credentials of a person who joins his clinic as an intern. The list of plotholes is endless.
And it's a new trend in Bengali soaps where people are forcefully married to others, there is a ghost of an ex, and there is always a second wife or girl friend who lives in the same house as the original wife but no one bats an eyelid. Every soap has part of the story borrowed from another soap as if the same 2 year old is being made to write all the scripts for all the soaps.
Please stop this soap. There is a saying in Bengali; Golper goru gache uthe gache to indicate how unbelievable the story is. This soap has surpassed that by making the cow climb to Mars instead of tree.
Heart of Stone (2023)
Where shall I start...
...let me see; Heart of Stone is predictable, boring, lacks charisma, the action lacks the punch, the list is endless.
Having Gal Gadot in the movie didn't help it either. She is just a pretty face and nothing else. So is Alia Bhatt. The acting is so lackluster it couldn't even help the script, or the lack of it.
I'll give a simple example. Typing randomly and getting into someone else's phone as SudoUser is so 80's.
Do not see this movie unless you don't have anything else to watch. Even then don't. Watch Gray Man twice. I think even the crew should have watched it before making Heart of Stone, then they would have know how to make an action movie.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
WB and Lana Wachowski just ruined one of the best movie franchise ever
Why make this B-grade sci-fi filled with useless characters just for the sake of being inclusive! Ceybebe, seriously! WB and Lana Wachowski just wanted to cash in on the popularity of John Wich, being inclusive, and women power. But they forgot the main idea behind The Matrix, it's philosophy. I bet apart from the original cast, none of them even read Simulacra and Simulation. WB should stay making worse DC movies rather than spoiling franchisees like The Matrix.
Looop Lapeta (2022)
And then Netflix complains they are not successful in India
Who would watch Netflix is the content they provide for their Indian customers are trash like this movie. It's a copy paste of the original movie Run Lola Run, with below average acting, and equally trashy direction. Quite correctly pointed out by someone else in the IMDb review section, it seems this is more a TikTok content than an actual movie.
Don't Look Up (2021)
DiCaprio is amazing!
Regarding the negative reviews in IMDb, you'll mostly see one theme in the reviews. That the dangers of climate change is heightened by the media. And that is exactly what this movie tries to point out through a carefully crafted satire while we play an Ostrich trying to hide from the truth, by NOT LOOKING UP.
DiCaprio's performance is amazing, reminds me of The Wolf of Wall Street. Lawrence is brilliant too, and so is Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, and Kate Blanchette. At one point in the movie, you'll feel like kicking Meryl Streep on her backside for being so ignorant.
Overall, very enjoyable movie.
Bob Biswas (2021)
One star to the photo of Vidya Balan in the end.
It's once again proved. Abhishek Bachchan cannot act. It was one scene in which he had to cry, and even in that they had to use CGI for the tears! Like seriously? And boy is his face expressionless. It has way less expression than that of Kristen Stewart. The resemblance is uncanny. But the good thing is Abhishek Bachchan is not the only thing that spoiled this movie. There is no attention to details. Anyone can point out the mistakes even if they don't pay enough attention, they are so glaring. I will cite 2 examples here, you can go figure the rest by yourself if you really want to watch this trash. 1. When Chitrangada gives the phone to Bob the first time, she tell him that she "will" put her office number there and even unlocks the phone to write the number but doesn't. She simply gives the phone to Bob instead. 2. First time Bob's daughter complains about the neighbor singing, we could only hear one line from her room and that's it. Once Bob went out of her room, we couldn't hear him singing anymore. Neither could we hear him when Bob was in the kitchen even though the window was open. And this when Chitrangada and Bob's daughter complained about constant singing of the neighbor. Good that Saswata didn't act in this movie, he would have thrown his hands in the air in frustrations. Thanks for ruining such a classy character portrayed by Saswata in Kahaani.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Ew!
The heading sums it up aptly. Steer clear of this horrible show. Watch something better. There are lots of shows available which are way better than this.
Locke & Key (2020)
Avoid at all cost
People who are rating this trash above 5, have you lost your mind. Did you not see a good series in your entire life?
The characters are boring and only a pile of wood can connect with them emotionally. The script is lame, so much that the protagonists know who the antagonist is, yet, when the antagonist goes missing their first response is that maybe the antagonist has gone for a walk! Like, seriously Netflix, are you hiring fifth graders for writing the script?
The first season was still watchable, second season is plain and simple boring. Every time one of the protagonists said something dumb, or behaved that way (which was quite often in the second season), I felt like giving a bump on their head.
Khorkuto (2020)
Worst Bengali serial after Sreemoyee
A girl is trying to snatch a baby from the mother and the writer is trying to prove that she is doing it because she is immature! Seriously! She is a graduate, she is married, and she is immature! Are you kidding me. And the family is allowing this just because she is rich. Wow! Worst Bengali serial ever, the writer must be high always to write such trash. The actress Trina Saha doesn't know anything about acting. The storyline is horrible.
StartUp (2016)
The plot has holes as big as the moooooooooon
A Stanford passout who signs a contract of partnership without reading it! I really wanna know what were the writers smoking while they wrote that part, must have been the really good stuff.
Even if we leave this part, there are so many holes in this plot, it would put a Swiss cheese to shame.
And people are rating this good, it seems those who rate on IMDb have a really low taste in movies and series.
We Can Be Heroes (2020)
Pathetic!
For those who are defending this movie saying "it's a kid's movie", Despicable Me, Spies in Disguise, Lion King, Toy Story, Incredibles are some of the movies kids love to watch these days. Please don't insult their intelligence by calling this pathetic excuse of a movie a kid's movie.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Not worth the time
I still don't understand the high rating, nor do I understand what this series was about? An alcoholic prodigy, one who has zero emotional quotient, with an equal absence of expression on her face? Did we really need another Kristen Stewart? There is just some chess lingo thrown here and there to make this look like a well researched chess series, it is not. It is a story about a spoiled orphan brat who loses everything because of her alcoholism, sleeps with a few men, and then try to use them for her own benefit. That's a good summary of this entire series. Oh, and there is a woman of certain ethnicity to make sure the series is inclusive of them, although I still wonder why we do not have same woman of certain ethnicity as the protagonist. Oh no, that would be outrageous right? And find there is the right amount of "hate the Communists" thrown in to make sure the series fits right in, although someone should remind the producers that USSR/Russia produced some of the best Chess players, ever.
And dear Hollywood, it's kind of getting tired on hearing the same "men are evil, don't listen to them" over and over again in every series, movie, documentary. There is a dialogue here where Beth's mother tells her that men will come in her life who would mostly be incompetent telling her what to do, never listen to them. And what happens to Beth's mother with this excellent life choices? She commits suicide.
I don't understand the high rating, have people stopped watching good movies, or are they being paid to provide a higher rating! Anyway, do not bother watching it, you can take my advice because I did so that you don't have to.
Orange Is the New Black (2013)
Don't watch this show because...
...it will make you laugh, cry, feel lost, angry, numb, and it will also give you hope. And once you have given it a shot, you are hooked for life. It will make you hate its characters, only to fall in love with them head over heels in the next episode. So, don't watch this show, live it.
El practicante (2020)
Pathetic!
How can this be in the top 10 on Netflix is beyond me. The entire movie seems to have been made keeping the stupidest people in mind. A girl-friend who broke up with her boy-friend because he was spying on her, yet she goes back to his flat with him, all alone! The old man kept hearing screams of help, and all he could do was knock on his door saying "I'll call the police!" No wonder he was murdered. After some time it just gets too idiotic to watch. Not worth your time.
The Devil All the Time (2020)
Tom Holland is a great actor in the making
This movie is all about Tom Holland, he showed that he is not just a superhero, he is the superhero. A slow burn movie, which builds up the heartache as it drags on, like the list of bodies in it. Such fine acting!
Criminal: UK (2019)
Criminal: UK is the best of the lot.
This is a unique web-series from Netflix. What happens when you put in a couple of brilliant investigators to interrogate criminals? Also, these are 4 different set of similar series; UK, Spain, Germany, and France. However, if you ask me, I would say Criminal: UK is the best of the lot.
First, let me talk about why the other set of the series is not noteworthy. Spain is okayish. Has good storylines. But not convincing enough. Germany does not have an ensemble cast like UK. The only 2 actors who are noteworthy here are Sylvester Groth, and Eva Meckbach. Florence Kasumba has lesser expression on her face than a log of wood, and why was Jonathan Berlin even there is beyond me. France has a psychopath as one of the investigators (Anne Azoulay) who starts to pounce on the person they are investigating! Like seriously, there were a thousand other ways to show that she cared. But no, she had to make a mess of the entire show. And then we have Margot Bancilhon who does nothing but meddles with the interrogation just to prove that she is the better one.
Now, let's talk about UK. Most of the other reviewers here are talking about David Tennant. But I think this is truly an ensemble cast. Katherine Kelly is simply amazing! Never did she lose her calm composure even for once in the show, even when we thought this is it, there is not coming out of this. Lee Ingleby matches Katherine equally, and even in this short, 4-episode web-series, we she a good character arc. Nicholas Pinnock, and Mark Stanley are equally brilliant!
Overall, it's a brilliant web-series from Netflix.
The Wife (2017)
A must watch!
This is a rare gem of a movie! I was going through the trivia and saw that Gary Oldman was approached for the role of Joe Castleman. Oh, what a treat that would have been to watch! No disrespect for Jonathan Pryce, he was brilliant. But I have a soft corner for Oldman.
I also read that it took 14 years for the development process for this movie. 14 years! And it was worth every second of it. Both Close and Pryce portrayed their characters brilliantly! But Close needs a special mention. Oh that beauty, that strength.
This movie is a must watch!
The Blacklist (2013)
A cringefest for the FBI
The only thing right about this show is James Spader, and I gave 4 stars for that. Now let's me come to some of the things that is wrong about this show:
1. The character of Elizabeth is horrible
2. The list of technical details that is wrong with this show goes on and on and on. There are only 3-4 agents that go out on every case, whenever a criminal is being apprehended the rest of the agents fall back to gawd knows where and only Elizabeth confronts them and then everything goes sideways, James Spader's character has leverage but not so much that he would conduct his own business under the FBI and CIA's nose. And this is only the things that comes off my mind right now.
I am not asking the writer's to be perfect, but if you are making a crime series, do some research! You cannot make a goat walk to the moon and say "hey, we are writer's and we don't need to be accurate."
Away (2020)
Not worth watching.
With web-series these day, you need to be very careful about what you watch. Otherwise, you might end up wasting some precious moments of your life. So take my advice, don't watch this garbage. First of all, this is NOT a sci-fi series. It's an over-the-top, annoying drama. And I would have been happy with that, if only they wouldn't have flicked out a mobile phone from space to call their home. I mean what were the writers thinking (or smoking, must have been the good stuff when they wrote this! I don't get a good mobile connection to my neighbor, and these people are able to connect to their home from a rocket in space instantly! On top of that we have astronauts who are out for eachother's blood, are you serious? It does not work like that in real life! Next, even if I overlook the stupid accident, I cannot, simply cannot believe that we have a commander who wants to go back home half-way through their mission. What was she thinking, that she will call an Uber? I somehow forced myself to watch the first episode, then gave up 10 minutes into the second episode. It's not worth the time.
How to Get Away with Murder (2014)
Childish, Horrible, Unrealistic
The plot has loopholes bigger than a black hole, and I am not even a lawyer! I gave this 2 stars because of Viola Davis. But that was all this show has to offer. I couldn't move beyond 2 episodes because I couldn't find anything interesting in this, so it was not worth investing my time. And for those who are saying "hey, the writers are not real lawyers, give them a break", well that's what writing for a movie is like, you need to make it as realistic as possible. But forget realistic, this is outright childish.
