Romulus, My Father (2007)
Very special movie - an Australian classic for sure
This is a an extremely compelling and moving film. I just cannot get the story and characters out of my head.
The casting was absolutely perfect, each and every actor was incredibly well chosen and there is no hint of Hollywoodness about any of them. Kodi Smit-McPhee is unbelievable in the role of Raymond Gaita, I almost never wish to see him in any other role and want to remember him as Raymond forever.
It is quite difficult to get hold of this book which I'm keen to do to read the aspects of the story which the film didn't cover. I had read the book reviews so was aware of the family's past history but my husband found some parts a little confusing - he felt it would have been beneficial to focus some time on the Gaita's initial arrival in Australia and how this affected each character. He found it a great movie but a little 'arty'. Lots of the story is non-verbal and you can read the story in the faces of the characters and the feeling of the landscape. I loved this movie and would highly recommend it to everybody!
Lucky You (2007)
Great movie
Went to see this movie last week with a group of friends, as the film we intended to see was sold out. Though this wasn't the movie we planned to see, I'm really glad that things turned out the way we did.
Poker isn't our thing and true the movie is a little slow when it centres on those scenes, but most of the film was very credible and humorous.
We all felt that the casting and acting brilliant - some great cameo appearances by some famous faces and both Bana and Barrymore sizzle on screen.
I will be definitely buying the DVD and watching again and keeping on my TV shelf.
Highly recommended!!
Casino Royale (2006)
I want to become a secret agent
My man took me to see this movie tonight and what a movie. We loved it! Even though it has received a major promotional buildup (and movies nearly always fail to live up to expectation in these circumstances), we were not disappointed. It actually far exceeded my expectations. This is a brand new style of Bond movie - new brooms have totally swept clean . This movie has everything and is unlike any Bond film I've seen before. Great casting, incredible stunts and pulsating action as well as fantastic scenery. Highly recommended - I've totally fallen for Bond all over again. Daniel Craig is wonderful and totally made this role his own. I also recommend you see it on the big screen .
