She Led Two Lives (1994)
FOR ME, CONNIE'S CHARISMA CARRIES THIS!
MY MAIN ISSUE WITH THIS TV MOVIE, IS THEY COULDN'T DECIDE IF THEY WANTED TO DO A SERIOUS LOOK AT BIGAMY OR MAKE IT A COMEDY. I DIDN'T LIKE IN CERTAIN SCENES THEY MADE LIGHT OF THE FACT SHE WAS JUGGLING TWO MEN. CONNIE'S CHARACTER WAS SELFISH, PETTY, IMMATURE, AND HURTFUL. IF THE GENDERS WERE REVERSED, THE MAN WOULD'VE BEEN PERCEIVED AS A JERK. CONNIE'S HUSBAND WAS A GOOD MAN THAT DIDN'T DESERVE THAT. HE DID NOTHING TO HER IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM. SHE WAS BASICALLY TRYING TO RELIVE HER YOUTH. I'M CURIOUS TO KNOW WHO THIS FILM WAS ACTUALLY BASED ON. ON THE ACTING SIDE CONNIE, PERRY, AND A MARTINEZ DID A FINE JOB.
Which Way Is Up? (1977)
PRYOR AS THE DIRTY OLD MAN, STEALS THE MOVIE!
RICHARD PRYOR WAS NOT THE FIRST ACTOR TO DO MULTIPLE CHARACTERS IN A FILM. PETER SELLERS, DANNY KAYE DID CHARACTERS IN THEIR FILMS LONG B4 PRYOR. HOWEVER, RICHARD PRYOR WAS THE FIRST BLACK ACTOR TO ACHIEVE THIS FEAT. EDDIE MURPHY I THINK WAS BETTER AT DOING MULTIPLE CHARACTERS. WHEN EDDIE PLAYED A CHARACTER, EDDIE WOULD TOTALLY DISAPPEAR TO THE POINT U FORGOT IT WAS HIM. PRYOR'S 3 CHARACTERS ASIDE FROM THEIR MAKEUP, ARE NOT MUCH DIFFERENT. THEY SOUNDED LIKE HIM, ACTED LIKE HIM SO U BASICALLY KNEW IT WAS PRYOR. PRYOR AS THE OLD MAN IS THE FUNNIEST THING IN THIS MOVIE AND IT'S A CRIME HE WASN'T GIVEN MORE SCREEN TIME. PRYOR AS LEROY WAS NOT VERY SMART OR A LIKABLE CHARACTER. U DON'T SYMPATHIZE WITH A COWARD WHO COULDN'T JUST WALK AWAY FROM HIS MARRIAGE. INSTEAD HE JUGGLES MULTIPLE WOMEN AND TRIES TO KEEP IT TOGETHER. THEN HYPOCRITICALLY IS VERY UPSET WHEN HE FINDS HIS WIFE IS PREGNANT BY THE REVEREND THOMAS (ALSO PRYOR). 5 SCENES THAT I'D SUGGEST FORWARDING YOUR DVD TO SEE: LEROY AND HIS DAD GOIN AT IT IN THE BEGINNING OF THE FILM, THE OLD MAN BEEFIN BOUT HIS CHICKEN, THE REVEREND'S SERMON, THE OLD MAN SEEING LEROY'S WIFE HALF DRESSED, AND LEROY AND THE REVEREND HAVIN IT OUT IN THE CHURCH!
Mad Men (2007)
Don't get what the big deal is!
The characters on this show are NOT likable. They're arrogant, cocky, disrespectful to women, they cheat on their wives, and i think KINDA racist too. The only brothas on this show are waiters, porters, etc. However, it's VERY well acted. They play their parts so well u really think they're those characters. The wardrobe, sets, art design are very well done. I can tell they're really goin for accuracy to match the era of the times. Don Draper is NOT a likable character in any shape or form. He does what he wants, when he wants, and how he wants regardless of whom he hurts. The rest of the characters seem to be that way too.
Hello I Must Be Going (2012)
Good film, however, I wasn't buying....
That Melanie Lynsey 's character hooked up with Christoper Abbott 's character so fast. That's the only flaw in the film. Wasn't much buildup for it. No flirting, no communicating. They just meet, kiss and then they're fooling around, sneaking around, etc. In that aspect, it wasn't believable. Aside from that, it's a good film. Always nice to see Ms. Blythe Danner in any role. Good acting all around.
Get on Up (2014)
Chadwick Boseman did a great job as James Brown. However....
would've been a much better film if they didn't jump around the story. Some facts were changed, inaccurate, or ignored. I was hoping to see more of his 1969-1974 years. only 1971 was shown. Key points in his career were ignored such as his decline during disco and his comeback in the 1980s with "Living in America". His second comeback in the '90s after his prison stint was ignored there's just a lot of stuff they didn't mention. I'm figuring it would've made the film too long. The film's story looks rushed at times. they're trying to squeeze in 50 years into a 90min film. so I guess I can understand that. Chadwick is an excellent actor and showed his chops in the film. overall, he came out clearly a winner. he nailed JB's cockiness, swagger, attitude, ego and footwork. NO one can dance like JB so u can't expect him to be exactly like his, but he did his very best. the best concert scene by far is the Paris concert scene even though that was inaccurate as far as the staging of the show, but casual fans won't know the difference only die hards will notice that. Hopefully, a future DVD release will have a lot of extras, deleted scenes, extended scenes and more concert footage. Mr. Boseman is an actor to keep an eye out for.His performance was a 10 while the storyline and direction of the film was a 5.
