Shark Bait (2022)
Utter fish pooh!
I gave it a one star because I had to. When the antagonist of the movie, in this case the shark, is actually who you want to win, then you know the movie missed the mark. In this movie, you instinctively feel that the death of each character improves the lives of everyone else on the planet. Imagine a movie where the narratives of Porkies, Jaws 3, and an episode of Beverly Hills 90210 are all woven together into one seemless drama, then you have this made for TV drama. The only reason I was able to continue watching this was because the main guy actor was hot. Also, why has it become necessary to write really long reviews on this Amazon owned site? What changed recently? I think I know...lol.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Wow.
I can't believe I was reluctant to put this on, but I was bored. I just didn't think it was for me. Boy was I mistaken.
Every character is well written, and you feel drawn into engaging with them. From the adorable mother, to the kind janitor, to the brilliant main protagonist, every single one of them was written and acted to perfection. The story was movingly played out on screen and switching off to go to bed was impossible. Who'd have thought a tale about chess could be so gripping and funny? For me, what let me settle into the show was the lack of woke dogma being sprinkled like arsenic into another wise awesome narrative. This was not a vehicle for pushing anything other than the story itself. This was a total win for Netflix. It just shows they have the winning formula for on screen entertainment, they just seem not to use it.
The Royals (2015)
Cheesy, trashy, totally addictive!
I watched episode one and switched it off. It is just trashy, but I felt a strange need to start watching it some more. Now I can't stop. This is pure trashy fun, with lashings of cheesy melodrama, and I love it! Aaahhh, Prince Liam...also worth watching this for.
Neumatt (2021)
Nice, but very "Netlix".
This was a good series with a relatable lead character. I grew up in the country, ended up working in the city, and enjoyed watching this. Being Netflix they had to squeeze the diversity into it, which felt unnecessary and forced, especially in a Swiss drama. It is pretty irritating and I guarantee it has an effect that is quite the opposite of what the people pushing this so relentlessly are hoping for. I'll still keep watching though, as the lead character is great.
Coming Out Colton (2021)
Good and bad.
I'm not American and I have no idea who this guy is. This was a funny and sweet show that gave an interesting insight into gay culture in America. Colton seems genuine and relatable. Maybe coming out in America is different than coming out in Europe, but I find myself feeling uneasy about a few elements of the show: he seems to have been totally messed up by "homophobia" which just sounds like normal locker room banter between guys. I would hate to see that disappear or watered down. Grow a thick skin, or maybe the sport scene isn't for you. I also hated the drag stuff, not all of us gays like this, and we don't all have to. Some of us find it creepy. I never stop coming out. I never bring it up, but I I find myself having to tell people I'm gay when girls make a move or guys start talking about girls. It was nice seeing a gay guy juggle the same balls. More please!
Moonfall (2022)
Good, but could have been better.
I enjoyed the movie, but they should have made it longer and not tried to squeeze would could have been a brilliant story into a script that was too short to do it true justice. Every scene should have been twice as long because each one had lots more story to tell. I really wanted to love this flick, but I just felt kind of robbed by the end of it.
Fresh (2022)
Awesome!
Best film I've seen in a long time. Not woke. Not full of Leftist propaganda. Just great acting, drama, plot, and strong characters. I strongly recommend this movie. Hollywood...THIS is what we movie watchers want!
Spencer (2021)
Apparently not a comedy then.
I couldn't work out if it was supposed to be a comedy or something else. All in all a sumptuous but also very odd film about a woman who grew up with the royal family, her granny was a friend of the Queen mother, her sister married to the queen's private secretary. The families went on holiday together. I actually feel sorry for Charles and Camilla. They were actually in love with each other from the start and were kept apart by the royal family. Diana was just a dippy girl who got caught in the mire. It's easy to forget, she knew very well what she was marrying into with this this loon fest of a family.
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
Kill the child, save the world. Or, just at keast kill the child!
Could have been a great movie. That kid was so utterly unlovable and unlikeable that he made what could have been a great movie just a likable movie. If at any point in this there had been a gruesome murder scene of that hideous brat, I could have enjoyed this a lot more, but no, he had to live. I guarantee any film starring this awful individual will be a flop. What a dreadful actor and character portrayal.
Slaughterhouse Rulez (2018)
Great Comedy
Watched it. Loved it. Highly recommend it! Great characters and an engaging and highly entertaining movie. We thoroughly enjoyed watching this little gem.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Awesome.
This series is quite literally awesome. I hope the keep going or they create a spin off with Harrison. I have no criticisms. The characters are engaging and the story gripping.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
An Excellent Sequel
From the beginning to the end this was an excellent movie. Lots of tension, married nicely to a backstory for part one. Apart from the super annoying children, which I imagine they are in real life since I don't know any, this movie would be cinematic perfection. Maybe for others the noisy annoying children would make this even more real. Either way, this movie stands independently from the first if you haven't seen it, or it compliments it. I've watched this three times now, and enjoyed it every time.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Loved it!
It's not Shakespeare but it's a shed load of fun. If you want to drink a beer and watch a fun/funny movie with friends, this is the one. Absolute free of woke, and full of humour. I strongly recommend this movie.
Beforeigners (2019)
Not a bad show
This was pretty good but could have been great. It was a good story that was twisted into a commentary on immigration. I'm sure a 10th century viking has more in common with Scandinavia than a 20th century African or Arab. I say this as someone with an interesting relationship with the past and the present of my own. Ifyou can ignore the heavy preaching about immigration you'll enjoy this.
Another Life (2019)
It's a Small World...in Space.
Imagine the "It's a Small World" Dinsey ride, but in space. Every gender, colour, and whatever else has been shoehorned into what could have been a great show. Season two was far better than season one. I only put it on because I was curious, but it did manage to hold me attention for the whole season. I fell asleep a couple of times, went to the shop, and had a wee, and I had no real feeling that I'd missed much while I was away from the telly.
Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace (2021)
So much truth it hurts
Loved this movie. There was so much truth I felt dizzy watching it. Nobody can ever know how much racism the multimillionaire Duchess of Cambridge suffered after she married into the Royal House of Windsor. That poor woman Meghan was just like a black angel fighting her way through a demon army of racist English people and their demented royal family of Nazis. The Diana flashbacks were particularly moving. I cried such tears for Meghan after watching this. It's almost as if Meghan wrote this masterpiece herself, or at least consulted on it. If you want to watch a movie that will leave you scarred and upset, but also wanting more from this Hollywood power couple, then watch this movie. Pure cringe that hits all the right notes.
Resident Alien (2021)
Not woke...and funny.
Very good, entertaining and funny. It kind of sailed close to woke but never quite hit the shore. It wasn't too predictable, the script was funny and the characters were likable. I recommended this to my mother and she loved it. We'll be disappointed if there isn't a second series.
10,000 BC (2008)
An underrated gem
Whenever I am bored, have nothing else to watch, or just fancy a fun movie, I put this on. I have no idea how many times I've watched it, but it is never boring. It isn't supposed to be an accurate portrayal of an unknown period in human history, it's a story, and a damn good one at that!
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Top movie
Loved it. Good story, and great actors. Probably won't win an Oscar, but it was a thoroughly entertaining ride.
Jupiter's Legacy (2021)
Surprisingly Excellent
Put this on because I was bored, couldn't switch it off. It's very different from The Boys as this isn't a comedy. I thought I was over super-héro stories but I was clearly wrong, I definitely 100% want more of this!
Sputnik (2020)
Yikes...an actually creepy horror flick.
Great characters. Cool alien. Gripping and creepy narrative. Very glad I watched this. The best sci-fi movie I've watched in a while.
Hereditary (2018)
An old style modern horror
I've watched this three times now and I notice something new each time. This is a genuinely creepy horror flick. It has that 70s horror feel and the story is character driven rather than driven by special effects. I wish more horror flicks had this quality.
It's a Sin (2021)
More of this please.
What an awesome series. I was a 00s newbie in London and this series just took me back to my teens and early 20s. I really had an awesome time. My first gay bar, first gay nightclub and my first ever kiss, first boyfriend. I wouldn't change a thing. The BBC really is awful but even a broken clock gets the time right twice a day.
Debris (2021)
The New X-Files
Tuned into this for Jonathan Tucker out of Kingdom. He was good in that and he's great in this. This has a very X-Filesy feel. I hope they don't just give us a single season with no closure.
Freaks (2018)
Hidden Gem
Why had i never heard of this excellent movie? Give it a go, you won't regret it.
