A Brave Movie, Capable of Becoming and All-Time Classic
9 February 2011
Wow, I just saw it and I was so taken by it.The performances were brilliant , both worthy of Oscar nominations, especially Michelle Williams. And the directing ,too . I really liked the two parallel stories and how they were related. And finally , there is a movie about how in a relationship and marriage , the man can be really emotional and committed and faithful , but the woman so heartless and ungrateful, because often in movies , men are portrayed as pigs and women as innocent and victims. It really is a brave movie and one the best movies of this year. And I think it has the capacity of becoming an all-time classic . I'm sure in future decades , people will be talking about this movie.

The Third Man (1949)
10/10
The word "great" is not enough for The Third Man
3 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The Third Man is definitely a successful experience for Carol Reed in the late 40's when most films made were boring and dull and full of cliché.But The Third Man is a movie that stands alone with it's unique union of different elements that brought together skillfully makes for an entertaining, unforgettable, suspenseful,Hitchcockian and yet influential movie.

The story is fantastic (Both screenplay and especially Graham Greene's story). The story has one excellent turning point in the middle of the film, where we realize (or make sure) that Harry is in fact alive. From this moment, the story totally changes way from Holly Martins trying to find out about Harry's supposed death,to him trying to actually get Harry.

The dialoges are smart, the relationship between Holly and Anna is really interesting. The movie has a very interesting and unusual sense of humor both hitting our minds using strangely and suspensefully funny dialoges, especially by Orson Welles playing Harry, and also the great music which was very suitable to the noir style.

The few scenes of the ending were also fascinating, especially the repetition of the scene after the funeral, and also the fact that we,again aren't sure whether Harry is dead or alive.

Actors are great in this:Joseph Cotten,Alida Valli and Trevor Howard all did great performances. But the real thing which made this movie more memorable, was of course Orson Welles, who although being on screen in almost a quarter of the film, was in fact the main actor remembered from this movie.

The cinematography is extraordinary(which won an Oscar). The black and white that makes the sets(especially the wet, almost rainy streets) and actors more enjoyable to watch.Actually,I can't imagine this movie in color.

Afterall,I think a 10 out of 10 is not enough for this movie! The Third Man is definitely one of top 10 movies of all time.

Forever Young (1992)

Funny and enjoyable, not a masterpiece though
5 July 2008
I saw it a few days ago and enjoyed it. it's not a masterpiece, i mean the main idea was a little unoriginal and the ending was predictable, but it was a funny and enjoyable movie to watch, especially the chemistry betwean mel Gibson and jamie lee curtis(two great actors) and also elijah wood which was pretty great. mel Gibson did a fine job.it is not his best work but he was good, the most important thing he did was not letting the character be a boring one.elijah wood was also funny and i was kinda surprised to see him in this movie.afterall this movie cannot be considered as a masterpiece or an influential film, but the very important point is that it's not trying to.this film is supposed to be amusing and entertaining and to be "light" for it's audience, and imo it's very successful in it's own way. i give it a 7 out of 10.

The Brave One (2007)
8/10
Kinda like a modern "Taxi Driver" ,but this time with Jodie Foster in the main role
28 May 2008
"The Brave One" is a fantastic film with a very good plot, good direction and acting. This film also has a very good influence.I find it very similar in themes to Martin Scorcesse's "Taxi Driver" and Jodie Foster's character(Erica) is like Travis in Taxi Driver ,playing a carachter who is originally minding her own business, but finally becomes a victim of the society, and decides to take revenge and run the law by herself. So,just like Travis Bickle ,Erica wants to "wipe the scum off the streets". The direction by Neil Jordan is fine.I've seen a few of his previous pictures, but I think The Brave One is the best he's ever done. The acting: both Foster and Howard is pretty great.Especially Jodie Foster who I don't think has ever played like this before and I strongly believe she deserved an Oscar nomination and a possible win The film has a few flaws.like Naveen Andrews who plays David, gives a very unintelligent performances and it makes the audience not sympathize enough with the main character of the movie. Afterall,it's a good movie in most ways and I give it 8 out of 10.

I don't get why critics hate this film
27 May 2008
I saw this movie a few days ago,and I loved it like any other Woody Allen movie. And I don't get why so many people hate this movie and also critics.some say this film s too explicit and etc.I think the story and the dialoges were great. One of the best things in this film was the Cinematography which was fascinating. And the actings imo are at the top.Especially,Judy Davis,Winona Ryder and Joe Mantegna did excellent performances and deserved nominations, and about Kenneth Branagh, many say is terrible in this because of doing a Woody Allen impression, but I can't agree with that.I think he showed his versatility and did a very sharp performance. Afteral,I think this movie didn't get enough credit as it deserved and is a very very underrated and btw misunderstood film.
