Rosy (2018)
nat wolff's taxi driver
I love this film, I know it's not that popular and doesn't have great reviews, but I love it. It's shot on film, it has a really pretty aesthetic. The jump cuts in the car are very cool and Godard-like (breathless). I LOVE the soundtrack, The Moody Blues, Gerry Raffery, AND Francoise Hardy?? So perfect. I love the little symbolic details like Rosy's hairstyle being similar to Lolita's when she starts to be more submissive.
Nat Wolff is incredible in this, I love his performance. He's convincingly scary but something about his character is so pathetic / weirdly understandable? The line about him being way behind from where he thought he'd be in life was heartbreaking. It's very clear there's something wrong with him, but, there's a part of him that does seem genuine, like he's normally a good guy that's just gone way too far. It's so entertaining to watch him try to deal with the situation. Everything's unravelling, it gets more and more tense until he eventually has to kill someone.
I love the ending too. His monologue's perfect, it hilariously switches between comedy and tragedy. He's consumed by his love for her and he sees nothing outside of it. He probably even perceives them fighting as part of that love. He's so in love, not even the thought of being killed by her will stop him from loving her.
