The Impossible Years (1968)
good movie,but bad rating
Okay,so this movie wasn't really that good to some people, but I for one liked it.A father who is a doctor(?) has two daughters:Abby who is the youngest and Linda who is the oldest(and has the raging libido).Yes,it's boyfriend after boyfriend for Linda, and her parents watch her wondering why their daughter jumps from one boyfriend to the next.It isn't until later when she moves out of the house and gets married, only to see her father trying to find out who her spouse really is.There is a favorite scene of mine where the Linda's parents are having a party and her boyfriend brings in a portrait of her that he painted. And when he shows the family and guests,it's revealed to be a nude portrait,in which Linda didn't know! The rating is bad though. It acts more like a PG-13 movie than a G rated movie.Believe me.This is NOT something you wanna watch with your parents!
Almost Famous (2000)
One of the best movies of the decade:0)!
"Don't you have any regular freinds?" "Famous people are just more interesting." This is one of my favorite quotes from the movie. This movie is for three kinds of people:musicians, music lover, and movie lovers. It takes place in 1973(before rock music became an enterprise).William Miller is lucky kid who gets to travel with the fictional band Stillwater to do a story for Rolling Stone magazine, though he was origanally supposed to interview Black Sabbath. While at the concert,he meets up with 'band-aide'Penny Lane(she makes it very clear that she is not a groupie)and other band-aide like Polexia Aphrodesia,Sapphire,Estrella Starr and Beth. While he travels with the band,he gets more than just a story:he learns more about life, with its promises, heartbreaks, and how cruel some people can be.The film has great music from David Bowie,The Who,Thunderclap Newman,Nancy Wilson,Led Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynyrd. It also has great performances by Patrick Fugit,Kate Hudson,Billy Cudrup,Jason Lee,Frances McDormand, and Fairuza Balk.It also captures a great deal of the 70s.
X-Men (2000)
A fuss over nothing
When I first heard they were coming out with an x-men movie,I was over joyed.I was wondering who'd be in it.Would Rogue be apart of Brotherhood of Evil Mutants like in the comic series? Will Liv Tyler play as Psylocke? And will Wolverine be played by a good actor?Only the movie could tell me that.An what a dissapointment it was!Anna Paquin as Rogue?I was thinking that Natalie Portman would be well-suited in that role.Hugh Jackman,I have to say,he played Wolvie with a sex-appealing charisma(I got to remember to rent out swordfish and someone like you when they come out....).But what really got me mad was that the movie barely followed the comic book series. And that was the whole entire reason I went to see that movie with my friend.Of course, there is some bonus points for this film.Gorgeous guys like Hugh Jackman,Ray Park,James Marsden and sexy women like Halle Berry,Famke Janessen, and Rebbeca Romijn-Stamos.Kick @ss special effects. But,this all a veneer that piles on over the fact that this movie can never be better than the comic book series.Maybe the second installment will be better.I do hope Psylocke will be in it.If so,I hope Liv Tyler plays it and not somebody else.
Omen IV: The Awakening (1991)
Good show,but lacking an ending...
I have to say, this is a quick improvement over the third Omen entry. Two attorneys(Faye Grant and Michael Woods)adopt a beautiful baby girl named Delia. They soon find out about Delia's real past when Faye hires a detective(Michael Lerner)to find out about Delia's parents, only to find that Delia's daddy dearest is really Damien Thorn. That explains a whole lot on why Deila goes somewhere and something bad always happens.Asia Vieira was great as the tuff-as-nails Delia who took crap from no one,Faye was so believeable as Delia's adoptive mother who knew that something wasn't right with their daughter, unlike the dimwitted husband who thought everything was an "accident".Now,the only thing I didn't get was the baby brother Alexander. Is he Delia's twin or Damien re-born?If he's Delia's brother, then why does he have the number 666 on his body and she dosen't?Concern yourself with these questions and you are in for a really good movie. But do be warned:the ending isn't really good. It'll leave you wanting more.
The Final Conflict (1981)
That's it!?That's the end?!
One word:crappy.Even Omen 4:the awakening was better than this. Damien Thorn(played by Sam Neill, who later went on to make better movies like Jurassic Park)is now 32 and ambassador to Britain.Hearing that Christ has been born again to stop him,he does the cruelist thing and kills all of the baby boys that were born on the day that the second Christ was.At the end,he found out he missed one of the babies and is won over by Jesus. If you like gory and imaginative deaths, don't see this one unless you want to see a deranged mother take her scorching hot iron and burn a newborn baby to death,a baby carriage that contains a baby getting hit and being sent to kingdom come by a car,and a priest who is giving a baby a "baptisim" drowns the infant in the holy water. This whole movie is a waste in the extravegent Omen series,so,do yourself a favor, take Omen 4 instead. You'll see a tough-as-nails girl version of Damien Thorn.
Damien: Omen II (1978)
This hottie has a mean streak
*** out of *****.This has to be one of the best Omen sequels ever.A now 13-year-old(and MAJORILY hot)Damien Thorn is living with his billionaire uncle in Chicago along with his aunt and cousin, though they do send both of the boys to a military academy. This time, the story center's a little more on Damien(in the first entry, you're always wandering what happened to the moppet)and how he finds out that he's the spawn of the devil. Now,it was a good movie and all and a sequel is rarely ever good, but when Damien finds the ominous birthmark he sure accepted the truth quickly, while in reality, some people might have a hard time trying to cope. But what really get's me is that the series didn't have a sequel that had a female version of Jesus in it.It would've been quite funny and entertaining for Damien to find out that the girl he loved was actually there to stop him.Now THAT would be what I call suspense and entertainment! Rated R for gore, violence,Jeckyl and Hyde transformations, and profanity.
Near Dark (1987)
a gem that twists the vampire traditions
Never will you find a vampire movie gory, violent yet entertaining like this one.It has a great score by Tangerine Dream(should've won an Oscar)and has a good line-up of actors. It takes place in Oklahoma where Caleb(Adrian Pasdar)gets bitten by the ever-so-elusive Mae(Jenny Wright). To ad even more to the bizarrness,he soon meets and joins her"family":Jesse Hooker(Lance Hendricksen),Diamondback(Jennette Goldstein),Homer(Joshua Jon Miller),and Severen(Bill Paxton). But to really become part of their family,Caleb must prove that he can kill,in which he says he won't.And to add more to the suspense, the vampires are soon after Caleb's father and little sister(Marcie Leeds). If you like vampire movies you'll love it,if you like gory movie you'll love it too,but be warned:if it's your first time watching this, don't be eating something.
