Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Why all the hate?
I wasn't aware people had a "Nickelback" level of hate towards Zack Snyder but so it seems.
These 2 movies are not the next Star Wars or Star Trek but they are by no mean as bad as people make them out to be.
With Part 1 & 2 we have 2 quite entertaining Space Action Scifis, with good special effects and acceptable acting and plot. These are not meant to be Academy Award nominated dialogues or scripts. They are meant to entertain you and I can't see how a sci-fi fan wouldn't find them fun.
As for the plot being just every big sci-fi blockbusters blended together, all I have to say is... if we can accept Avatar being "Pocahontas in Space" then we shouldn't have any problem accepting this as "Magnificent Seven in Space" or "Seven Samurai in space".
I do believe that over time these will have a cult following and if people could just let themselves enjoy something fun maybe we could have a new cool cinematic universe here but with the reception they're getting it's doubtful.
Napoleon (2023)
What a disappointment
I was really looking forward to watching this movie. Ridley Scott is a great Director, Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor and Napoleon Bonaparte is a fascinating character with a mountain of stories and life events to put on the screen. What could go wrong?
But you will barely see any of these amazing events, instead, you will end up with a highly historically inaccurate depiction of events that will leave even the novice in historical facts speechless. I can overlook historical inaccuracies for the sake of extra entertainment but what I can't overlook is making the entire film a 2h long story about Napoleon the King of Simps and Cucks and his relationship with Joséphine. Indeed this isn't about the great conquerer and his great battles but instead a deplorable depiction of his love life.
Even the good cast, the great costumes and sets and the nice cinematography cannot make up for the completely wrong turn that this script has taken. I was left asking myself "how did no one raise any concern over this? How did Scott not change the script?"
But there it is, a very average and disappointing film that could have been great.
Alien Shark (2022)
Well...
Was it Terrible? Yes. Did I watch it 'till then end? Also yes.
You know what you're getting yourself into with a movie called Alien Shark. But even if I give it a 4/10 I will say this, in 1h13 runtime, they manage to fit in a half dog half shark hybrid, a floating ghost shark, an alien shark that also possesses people and an alien spaceship orbiting earth shooting laserbeams down to earth.
Not to mention completely unnecessary character development that doesn't lead to anything. Leaving you wondering if it's one of those completely self aware silly bad cgi movies or if the filmmakers actually tried to make a movie.
But it's all there.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)
Who's Idea Was That?!
Humpback Whales ?! Seriously I had problems understanding how and why they came up with that, did Greenpeace help them out?! That whole story didn't do it at all for me and how can people say it's one of their favorite? The wrath of Khan is without a doubt the best, mainly because of the absence of Leonard Nimoy in "The search for Spock". Also the time travel idea is an easy and cheap choice for the obvious reason that there's no Space Ship of any kind for like 3/4 of the movie, maybe they forgot it was a Star Trek movie. The only good thing about it are the characters that we love so much and thus makes it possible to tolerate this fourth chapter to the Star Trek franchise.
