Well made movie here
18 May 2024
My home state, New York. But the city is not always pleasant at night. Dealing with the night characters: prostitutes, drug dealers, and other criminal scum that the NYPD have to deal with. The worst criminal scum are the ones who wear the badge. There's a lot of them running around, and one "decorated" cop is killed by a drug dealer. So one maverick cop(Sam Elliot) and one burned out lawyer(Peter Weller,"Robocop") are on a mission to track down the dirty cops and drug kingpin(Antonio Fargas, "Starsky & Hutch") who is the biggest slick in the film. A lot of the scenes in the film looked off. Especially when the cop grounds the private jet.

I enjoyed it very much. Yet, a few of the scenes had me raise a eyebrow.

Great mixture of action, comedy and drama
18 May 2024
David Carradine, known for Caine in the "Kung Fu" series plays a bounty hunter in the future. Armed with the latest technology. A gauntlet with the latest crime fighting features. He goes after the criminals, wanted dead or alive. He gets his bounty mostly dead. Paid in cash. But sometime around, he sees that the organization has gotten corrupt. They targeted a reporter who is wanted for treason. He killed one of the fellow officers. The organization targeted him. He fights back. Protecting the reporter from death. The organization would later find the source of the corruption. Their own boss.

A little too obvious.

There's a touch of comedy in this film.

A little bit on the silly side. Only for a blah day. Still a lot of fun.

Same plot, more stars than the first
16 May 2024
Sequels are always coming up. In "Cannonball Run II", nothing hardly changes. However, this sequel has a lot more celebrities than the first one. Burt Reynolds and company returns. Then you add Catherine Bach from "The Dukes of Hazzard", Old Blue Eyes, Frank Sinatra for a Rat Pack reunion. Almost. Some of the original stars from the first film didn't return. Roger Moore didn't return, but his Bond co-star Richard Kiel played Jackie Chan's driver. Jamie Farr returns as the Sheik who runs the Cannonball Run. And one of my favorite monster trucks, Bigfoot is on. With all of this, the race is still on. Just like the first film, it is nonstop laughter.

Rise, fall, and redemption
16 May 2024
This movie is great to watch. Based on a promoter who has found famous people in the making. A music writer at first. Working in a Italian restaurant. Making music on the side. That's something to feel good about. Finding new talent in the music industry is tough. What qualities the performer must have. When the person becomes successful, it's either a plus, or a minus. The plus is going to the top. The minus is big egos and clashing with other talents for supremacy. When one singer decides to switch agents, the original has hit rock bottom. But he doesn't give up. He keeps on going and rebuilds himself.

Great stars, great songs, what else do you want from this movie?

Hot Stuff (1979)

Great comedy, great cast, it's a steal!
2 May 2024
With casts like Dom Deluise, Jerry Reed, and Suzanne Pleshette, you can't go wrong. Along with Ossie Davis, now that is a good movie. In "Hot Stuff", it is the cops that are doing the dirty deeds. A vice squad decides to get criminals by using a hock shop to bust thieves. They have happened to meet the mob and just find the main one. Their own superior is not thrilled about the idea that they are doing, but it does help catch the thieves on film. When he tries to call the main law enforcement, he ends up dialing the wrong number. When the biggest busts happens, everyone gets something good.

I enjoy every minute of it. Full of laughter and slapstick comedy. You can't go wrong. Or can you? HAHAHAHAHA!!!

All star high speed fun!
22 April 2024
Remember the animate cartoon called "The Wacky Races"? Well there is a live action movie of some sort of matter called "The Cannonball Run". There were predecessor films like it like "The Gumball Rally" and "Cannonball". Those were made in 1976. All these films have a lot of action, a lot of sex appeal, and a lot of intrigue.

In "The Cannonball Run", it has a lot more comedy than the other 2. But it has a lot of star power. Burt Reynolds, Dom Deluise, Roger Moore, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., etc. This movie is non-stop, high octane, off of your seat of hilarious adventure. High profile and high quality adventure. This coast to coast run is for the books.

5 stars!

A Crack up of a movie
20 April 2024
Just drifting into town and a crime makes you the perpetrator. A drifter and his girlfriend witness a crime committed by a crooked sheriff, and the whole town is after the wrong people. They have to wait until the next day to get in contact with the lawyer, because it was Sunday. So when they wait, they get in contact with the lawyer, they had hope. It was lost when the lawyer got killed. The drifter who is a war veteran gets geared up to take care of corruption in that town.

It was a mix of action, drama, comedy, and intrigue. A great cast. Plenty of plot, and a great car chase that can go on for miles. It can be enjoyed without having to pay a speeding ticket.

Star Wars with sex appeal
15 April 2024
There are a lot of science fiction copycats in the world. Following the success of "Star Wars" and "Star Trek", here comes "Starcrash". Yet, this one combines comedy and sex appeal with it. This movie has a Bond girl who is really a bombshell throughout the movie. And way before "Knight Rider", David Hasselhoff played a captured prince who helped the space pirates save the day. If anyone remember "Battlestar Galactica" and the other sci-fi hits of the 60's and 70's, this movie is for you!

It does have plenty of cheese to have. A good cast. Obvious plot. But one thing for sure that it's a good film to watch.

Do you have a room for rent?
8 April 2024
Being a super in a apartment complex isn't all fun and games, until a group of strangers decided to shake things up a bit. You got a super(Andy Griffith) who wants to be a better person by going back to school for a better life. When his wife temporarily leaves him, he has a encounter with a young woman. She is part of a gang of bank robbers, who uses a apartment to be a lookout while her boyfriend and cohorts go rob a bank next door. When the super's wife comes back, both she and him are hostages when they commit the crime. But things go awry when they are double-crossing each other after the failed attempts. That's where the super become a hero following his military experience.

It is a good movie. Andy Griffith does a spectacular job there.

Talking about being in too deep
25 March 2024
You have a struggling actor who works in the family company. The right part is hard to come by for him. He gets to drive around a client to places and goes to auditions. He has a girlfriend who is a successful actress. The relationship is rocky because of her success. He is limousine driver for the time being until he sees that the boss, his uncle is in dirty business. It seems that everyone in the family is involved in dirty business. Talk about a messed up family.

An unsuccessful relationship with the girlfriend, a crime with hidden secrets, and a secret relationship with greed in the middle. This is one act that doesn't need a rehearsal of any means. Being intrigued is more than any one can handle. This guy just got more than he bargained for.

A cold chase
19 March 2024
Being chased by a dark figure is always common with victims. In the backwoods, the natives there have the advantage. In "Black Cadillac", call it a backwoods exploitation of a dark perspective. You have three young men. One from a prestigious college, and two other high school seniors who are having fun for the first time. They go to a local bar. Cross paths with the locals. And end up being in a chase by a mysterious black sedan. Both sides matched wits. It's a cat and mouse game which fighting prowess is at stake.

With a lot of cars in the movie, the cold weather is always a factor for the turnout of the plot of the film. Great for the college and horror buffs.

Not a sequel? True. But still a good movie, anyway
16 March 2024
I wouldn't put down this one just because it was not a sequel. David Bradley was in 3 and 4, but he played another character in this film. His prowess is enriched. Pat Morita is funny in this film. Not a big role. But the ninja fights are still big in all the films.

I enjoy all 5 of the American Ninja series. Despite being toned down, the excitement is still there. I would not say anything bad about it. The arts of ninjitsu is alive in me. I studied the 9 powers. I master the arts of stealth. This movie is more like Part 2 than Part 5. And Joe is Michael Dudikoff's character in the latter parts, except 3. This Joe is different. He's not a mystery man. This movie is more comedic than the other 4. It is still adventurous.

Putting the "F" in Femme Fatale!
13 March 2024
There is a British spy film that does not deal with James Bond, Agent 007. He is Bulldog Drummond, a British agent who tracks down a friend who uses women to do his dirty work. He chooses the most beautiful ones, and he is very efficient. They use cigars that is packed with more than just flavor. The women will also torture them. But an aunt and niece team will quarrel with other stuff rather than doing the job.

Plenty of innuendo and plot in this film. Drummond is like the other half of Bond. Without all the gadgets.

With some future stars, this movie has a lot of class, without reporting to the boss.

A modern day version of Jekyll and Hyde
13 March 2024
A student who spends time with one favorite subject, and neglected the others. A introverted student who spends most of the time with his chemistry experiment, and less time with English and P. E. His teacher flunks the paper in class, and chops up his Chemistry paper. His Guinea Pig is accosted by the janitor's cat.

One night, his test formula is consumed by his pet, and kills the cat. He consumed the formula, and kills the janitor.

He also kills the English teacher and the coach.

Just say that he has let the madness get the best of him. He would have gotten even with others who have done him wrong, but that's not the way to handle bullies.

Looks cheesy, but it was fun to watch. Regardless of the change.

More RC(Remote Control) than Maximum Overdrive
9 March 2024
I saw Maximum Overdrive. I also been to the area it was made in. I was in Wilmington, NC in 1997. The year I attended UNCW. The year this movie was made. I collected trucks as a kid. I still do. But "Trucks" take a funny spin on the 1986 movie made by Stephen King. It is made in Canada and it's supposed to take place in Nevada. Some parts resemble that of MO, yet one thing that didn't happen is when the mailman was killed by a RC Tonka Dump Truck. I think that would be done by a giant kid. More comedic than the latter, but it is still a horror. "Trucks" isn't a bad movie it's something for big trucks lovers like me. The plot was similar to "Maximum Overdrive". Only more toned down. It is a keeper for me.

I just short circuited!
8 March 2024
Electrifying, fun, and funny at the same time. A architect who lives quietly got the update on how to live his life. He buys himself a new computer so he can be up to speed with his work. But he goes overboard, and buys plug-in adapters for his computer. His new neighbor is a cellist. He gets more than he bargains for after he doused the computer with champagne when it overheats during a download process. During the time, the computer becomes a living piece of machinery. It is curious about the world and of life. The architect gives it a crash course. It's other feeling was jealousy. When he and the cellist spend time with each other, Edgar(The living computer) goes to extremes to get Miles into trouble.

Funny to the end, this movie is a bit of a opener to technical dreams and circuitry. You will get a jolt out of it!

Who's the victim here?
7 March 2024
In the art of intrigue, there's no innocent victims here. A socialite is in a joyless marriage. The husband is the Romeo to a damsel in distress. He finds a trinket in the elevator while heading to the wife. He hears thud from the next room. He meets the damsel. He helps her. She confides in him. They will have a good time with each other.

Unknown to him, her boyfriend is psychotic. So jealousy is not the problem here. He heroic deeds turned out to be a misdeed on his part. He signed part of the company paperwork to her. Her boyfriend killed him and his wife. She widowed earlier and she was driven mad by the mistress.

Infidelity is a dangerous thing. You will never win the love game like that. 4 out of 5 stars.

Good film for a rainy day
28 February 2024
Here's a exploitation film that can your motor running. "Moonshine County Express" is a film that can send you off-road. Starring John Saxon as J. B., a stock driver who helps a trio of sisters seeking revenge on a rival moonshiner. He has killed the father, and has been the target of the competition. He thought that he can buy his way out of the situation, but he crossed so many paths, he became a marked man. It also stars ,Claudia Jennings, Maureen McCormick, William Conrad, and Dub Taylor. Star studded packed, what a wild ride. I enjoyed every minute of it. Plenty of language, plentiful plot, and a ride one would never forget. This movie is great for a rainy day.

Powerful to the extreme
27 February 2024
In the world of Kung Fu, this movie is more than just a fight ready to happen. Two rival schools are ready to compete in a tournament. One of the teachers is dishonest and dishonorable to boot. Having 3 men from Japan to have on their side. They had a fighter who was helping them. But when he discovered their scheme, he helped the other side. Only the top fighter. He has sharpened his skills to the fullest. He would study the iron fist techniques to his advantage. Though he was temporarily sidelined, he was able to make it.

This movie has been entertaining from beginning to end. The soundtrack was great. A keeper in the martial arts films.

One of the best Peanuts movies
24 February 2024
Summer camp is a experience for one of heart. Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang are in camp and began the experience. They face a group of bullies who cheat to win. The bullies sabotage every single time to be Number one. But this time , they would meet Karma. In the rapids race they would pull every dirty trick they did. But something bad happened to them. Snoopy and Woodstock are a team of their own. They will find a way to get out of their bad situation. Woodstock has plenty of knowledge about the wild. Charlie Brown is all about luck. Lucy is such a "Karen". But she's a Karen's worst nightmare in my view. Peppermint Patty is a character that is characteristic in every way. Marcie is straight forward. Sally is a firecracker. Linus is the same as Sally. They do belong to each other. The others are unique as well. A great movie it was. Brings back memories for me.

Great cast, so-so movie
23 February 2024
What do you get when you have a bunch of all-stars, a well known producer, and a moderate plot? A low-budget sci-fi/horror movie. An alien uses optical beams to slice off the heads of its victims. And body count grows as it targets its victims.

Dick Clark, known for "American Bandstand" and "The $25,000 Pyramid" produces this movie along with a cast of different TV shows and movies. Casey Casem, DJ, and voice of NBC playing the role of a scientist is nice.

This movie needed more action to it. But the star quality is not lost. I can handle the racial epithets. And the violence level was light. It needed more appeal. The movie was very subtle.

The Bat Woman (1968)

Campy
9 February 2024
In the 60's, the superhero craze is all the rage. "Batman" debuted in 1966. Later it was "The Green Hornet". In Mexico, they have "The Batwoman". This one has more sex appeal than the earlier one. A rich woman who is a expert swimmer, a wrestler, and a superheroine by chance. She drives a sporty convertible. She can swim very well. And she can fight crime with law enforcement in the guise of Batwoman. She uses her guise to infiltrate a scientist who kills athletes for their penal gland fluid. All to create a humanoid fishman.

For this superheroine, she has the mask like that of Batman and Batgirl in the United States. And a bikini swimsuit? Isn't that too revealing? At least it's not Gotham City. Very campy this movie is. Plenty of sex appeal. Great for superhero fans.

Diversity leads to future films
4 February 2024
Many martial arts films have always been Asian. Now there are other racial groups that have embraced the arts.

A black family has been murdered. The surviving victim has been trained in Kung fu. The friend is Chinese. They make a great team. His friends are assaulted. One is murdered. Both victims take their revenge on those who have done them wrong.

This movie has opened the door to non-Asians doing martial arts. And two Asian groups doing different martial arts. Hardly see any stereotype in the films. A few racial epithets. But other than that, it was enjoyable. I remember Jim Kelly and Steve James put their prowess on the line, this martial artist show his moxie in this film.

Life through the eyes of a robot
27 January 2024
This is not your typical life story. Robots are mechanical and inhuman. But when they start to think about life, that's where it becomes interesting. Two servant robots Val and Aqua(Andy Kaufman and Bernadette Peters) started seeing the sunset, they are curious about life. They see trees, confront a bear, and elude a malfunctioning robot probe. They steal a van along with a robotic comedian. They set out on a journey with their "child" in tow. They found more parts in a junkyard.

This is a movie with Andy Kaufman at his best. Sadly it was the last big screen for him. Other than that, it has a good cast. Great for the young at heart. An early version of "Short Circuit". Without the obscenity.

Putting the "O" in OMG!
23 January 2024
Success has its virtue. When it comes to making movies, there are box office hits, and box office bombs. A producer(Richard Mulligan) who's movie turned out to be a box office bomb. And began to be suicidal. He has all the support from every angle. During a party, he has a half-naked guest come on to him. He realizes that his movie lacks sex appeal. So he turned it into a porn like movie. He wanted his ex-wife(Julie Andrews) to show off the "goods". Her BREASTS!! She was hesitant, but she was willing after a injection. The last movie he made, is now a box office hit. After his death.

A great cast. Blake Edward's finest movie, since "The Pink Panther".
