Eternal Beauty (2019)
Brilliantly beautiful!
A fantastic story with a captivating character in its center portraying a different side of mental illnesses than the ones we're used to see on film. As well as magnificent performances from the cast, especially Hawkins and Thewlis.
Frances Ha (2012)
Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig were really unto something.
This is a beautiful movie about being an adult and not having your life together, just being in your journey to piece it altogether.
In the Heights (2021)
This is a love letter to the Latin immigrant community
This was such an amazing and emotional movie, it had me crying since the first 20min and you can bet I'm 1.watching it again multiple times, and 2.saving the soundtrack to my Spotify as I type this.
The Mitchells vs the Machines (2021)
This movie is so amazingly chaotic and I love every second of it.
This is a wholesome movie about a weird, barely functional, family that take on the task of saving the world. It made me laugh so much I almost choke on my Nutella toast, and cry every time they had a heartfelt family scene.
The animation in this is amazing, it's very different from other animated films I've seen so far in my life. Sometimes things and their texture feel out of place, which I'm guessing was done to keep with the "don't fit in"/weird feeling of the family. The soundtrack also goes hard and wraps up the whole vibe of the movie along with the little inside animations/sketches of the film.
Sincerely, just watch this movie. Don't expect anything other than being amazed by it and multiple laughs.
Easy Virtue (2008)
A good light comedy but personally didn't care much for the plot
This movie has pretty good cinematography, a great soundtrack, and an amazing ensemble. It's truly funny and even hilarious in parts. Nevertheless, the plot was somewhat predictable and I found myself not caring for it most of the time.
The Bronze (2015)
Entertaining but could've been better
I personally don't think this is a bad movie and did somewhat enjoyed the story. I just think that it would have been better if we had gotten more background on hope from the beginning in order to connect with her.
I'm Not Here (2017)
A great performance by J.K. Simmons
This is a very slow drama with an ending that will need some reflection, so if you don't like that this is not your movie.
Overall, being 100% honest, this movie is 3/5 (or 5/10 if you will). It's a good story, it has a great cast, and it leaves you thinking at the end. Seriously tho, J. K. Simmons deserves a standing ovation for his performance, it was magnificent.
Trollhunters (2016)
DON'T LET THE AGE CLASSIFICATION TRUN YOU AWAY FROM WATCHING THIS
Del Toro's storytelling is amazing, his characters are alive and deeply connected between them. This is definitely a must watch no matter your age. It will definitively make you find the courage inside you to go after the adventure before you.
Soul (2020)
Makes you contemplate your life
This is one of the most satisfying movies I've seen in my life, both animated or not. It really makes you think about if you've found your spark in life or if you need to put things into perspective.
Never Have I Ever (2020)
I'm a 22 year old crying over a show about teenagers - THE TRAILER DOESN'T DO IT JUSTICE
I decided to watch this because I wanted something light, not too emotionally or mentally draining, to watch and ended up with a heartwarming, wholesome, show.
I'm a child of divorced who lost touch with her favorite parent to which she was most connected with and had to adapt and learn how to live with a parent who even though loved me didn't understand me. Because of this I was able to relate to Devi's situation with her mom after her dad died, it even made me think about my upbringing and view it from a different perspective. Just as in Devi's case, I wasn't the only one hurting, my parent was hurting as well.
Yes, it was somewhat awkward and uncomfortable for me to watch as the big idea of the show is to portray High School life and I had to see these 'teens' act and behave in ways I'm pretty sure we all did back in the day and it just made watching the show SO hard sometimes.
Especially because the trailer was kind of misleading and it seemed that the whole point of the show was going to be Devi's journey to losing her virginity (something she doesn't seem ready for, and is a classical example of kids trying to grow too fast and rushing through things PERSONALLY SPEAKING).
However, this ended being a show that revolves about grief and pain. The grief over loved ones (Devi and her mom), the pain of having secrets (Kamala and Fab), pain over your loved ones not being there for you (Ben and Eleonor), and the pain of feeling that maybe you're not good enough, that maybe they don't really love you for who you really are (Paxton).
I honestly believe that no matter your age you should give this show chance. After all, we all were teenagers once and we all went through some kind of pain during high school.
Also, I APPLAUD the whole crew (creators, producers, casting team, etc.) for having such a diverse cast and focusing the narrative on families of color. It's nice to see someone else to be represented on the screen and their stories to be told.
The Legend of Korra: Remembrances (2014)
Grandma Yin for the win
I'm only giving this 7 stars because Grandma Yin's commentary during Mako's story was the best part of the episode.
Hot Pursuit (2015)
Divided opinion
I think this was a good comedy with very good actors. Sofia's character has the best story, no doubt, and it worked wonderfully with the development of the movie. I did find Reese's character somewhat obnoxious, which is upsetting for me because I think she made a good job. This is a pretty good movie to watch and unwind but probably wouldn't watch a second time.
Horse Girl (2020)
Alison Brie REALLY delivered
This is a complex, yet easy to watch, film with great writing and an outstanding performance by Alison Brie.
