Ted Lasso (2020)
anchor in
In the times since the debut of this show during Covid and to where the current state of the world is due to its aftermath and geopolitics on a global perspective may seem bleak or tiresome this show has a compass that turns on. Some may gravitate towards it or not but please give us more seasons in the future. The characters, the laughs, the good spirit need to be vigilantly paraded. Thank you ted lasso, just thank you.
Maybe take a two year sabbatical as the American actors lives have taken sacrifice being filmed abroad but I definitely think this show has gas left in the tank. Has such a deep meaning or mantra.
For All Mankind (2019)
questionable character deaths but overall excellence
Pushing the envelope! I think that's what the writers room for this show has hung on their wall at their meetings. The women of this show, just finished Season 2, have truly magnetized and added a worldly empathy in a humanely individual viewpoint as a viewer. Truly have to applaud the main women actors of the show as their performances of their characters are outstanding. I feel that Tracy and Gordo Stevens should not have died however. Tracy felt like the true American spirit and embodied that and giving Gordo a second chance w/marriage only paves an American path. Sarah Jones was excellent. However, I feel the arc of them was premature and I'm sure their kids will just be a haphazard write in for the show's future as a result of their deaths.
However, this show is intriguing in a historical perspective as it entices viewers to delve in to recent historical timelines versus the show's timelines. Sort of mirrors each other deceptively for the show's benefit.
On - drakon (2015)
There's a sleeping giant within...the film industry.
I love this film, like all the positive reviews, I agree wholeheartedly. If this film is original within its writing then Russia is on to something. Even not, they are still into something. I was surprised how the production and CGI were pretty much up to par and how the story telling was captivating and original. The music/soundtrack throughout the film was on par emotionally to the very end. I wanted this film to disappoint me at some point but stayed riveting and I am now captivated with the Russian film industry with its content, writing, production and overall direction. They've had art for a very long time especially on stage production, specifically ballet. I believe this is all part of the evolution. Keep on trucking as they say here on the west. Kudos.
The Northman (2022)
Disturbing to its core w/reverence
Let's address that the fact of Viking history is filled w/drama, bloodshed, authority of obliteration, things of that nature. But in a historical timeline their saga is astounding, wonderful and captivating. This film leaves a haunting nostalgia that makes me want to see the film over and over again. Truly the best Viking film piece I've see yet to date and my assumption is that it would be hard to replace. Folklore at its finest and the depth of study of the stories intertwined needs more accolades for this film. Yes, this film is gory and probably turn off alot of people with sensitive stomachs but accepting you are watching a breed of people built on savagery will make you accept the fact that this film is superbly entertaining and visceral yet intelligent. Love also wins in the end. Wonderful.
The Fallout (2021)
Polarizing
Megan Park dissected a negative US cultural phenomenon that often is overshadowed by "prevention" of future events. Never do we see the true fallout of the victims. There's too many events to list but imagine all the people that are affected from the victims, families, friends, parents, local communities, society, etc. This film is a micro-sample of the three survivors from the bathroom stall and their coping mechanism individually and from their families support system. This pushes individual identity and identity of their emotions.
The youth are more pushed to feel their emotions and surrounding environment on a macro/micro level more than others before them which is a wonderful evolution for posterity.
This film stands to me more like a "stand by me", "goonies", "e.t;.", etc. Genre which is a generational film that touches on those individuals it targets. Though the subject matter relates to tragedy, it couldn't relate more to where society stands on generational events.
Wonderful actors and great casting. Truly a breakout role for two actors who I never noticed before which is of Jenna and Maddie. The range of depth in each of their roles gives them unprecedented choices in their future. May they be grounded as the mantle of Hollywood can be had with actors of their nature.
No Time to Die (2021)
Best Bond film...
I thought this was the best Bond film in all of its catalog. Has the usual intrigue of the locations, women, etc. For a Bond film but what makes it stand out is the continuity of the whole film from start to finish. Bond also touches down to earth more than any of the other films with his affectionate and sacrificing love for his baby Mother and daughter. It feels weird to even say he has a family on this film. The action sequences were stellar and give credit to the only American director for this franchise as he has outdone Bond. Bond is truly in his element and you can feel his confidence when he puts on his suit or when he's on a mission. A Magnum Opus of James Bond in my point of view. It would be a disappointment if Daniel Craig truly hangs up this character in his career as physically he still looks at his peak. Yes, we might see him get blown in the end but I'd like to think that Q truly made Bond disappear as he requested on Spectre and that the watch's radius demagnetized the warheads of the missiles to not go off within the vicinity of James Bond. Just shows how much of a perfect character he is for Daniel Craig and vice versa that I can't see anyone else delve in the character more than Mr. Craig. Well done, bravo, and you definitely broke a leg {theatre talk} for your performance as the titular James Bond which was a tall order all to itself.
Paper Girls (2022)
Underrated
This show gets you right from the first episode. Baffles me to the low ratings as it definitely is honor roll or in the high 8s from its overall high bar it sets with the overall pieces it takes to get a show like this out. The young lead actors couldn't have been more perfect with their acting and depth. The writing and directing of the series is groundbreaking and it seems to have been led with females at the helm for the most part. It felt like one long movie with a high budget. Promising future this series will have. Truly the first show I have binge watched from start to finish as I just couldn't stop. Magnificent.
This Is Where I Leave You (2014)
THE SHOWRUNNER
This film was on my watchlist on Max but was intrigued about this guy by the name of Jonathan Tropper. The show Warrior had too much intricacies and sensitivity in an array of subjects. With historical events that had to be drawn out with a gifted individual who can craft a riveting show like it is. To achieve that starts with the writer. Then to hear this particular writer was the show runner of Apple TV+ show, See, just drew me in to study his craft and all the while drawn in completely in each of those work.
What we have is a star in Hollywood that will eventually be so bright it will be a world unto itself. The years prior before he got an agent from his family, education, jobs, practice of life, hours writing and viewing life as he sees it has made him finally be where he's suppose to be. Keep grounded Mr. Tropper but enjoy each praise you will receive along your way.
This particular film has a certain arc to it which will remain timeless and the actors' and casting couldn't have been any better. Absolutely grounding and inspiring. Keep the show running, Mr. Showrunner, please keep the show running indeed.
Blue Bayou (2021)
Problem w/Asian passivity
This film has too much promise especially from it's directory and writer but I think his nuance of drama is quite frankly passive especially with a male lead and protagonist. As an asian male, I will never stand for anyone let alone a minority man to be trampled upon by what is perceived as a superior being. This film just did that; instead of writing a film towards a climactic ending in which good prevails or a David vs Goliath cliche ending it continued with the male lead, let alone an asian lead, to continue taking abuse from its present and past captors. The lead had all the factors to prevail to fight a good fight especially with his wife, daughters, friends but never do we even take a turn towards that. Instead we fall into the typical cliche that Asians continue to be passive and quiet. Never has there been a war with an Asian country and the current western world that has been won to a colonizing brute but are still ongoing (reference the Korean Peninsula or the ever-so controversy of our invasion in Vietnam) but the western society world prevailed in this one to the dismay of the asian writer. It could have been an Oscar contender shifting to notify the victims and give them hope to fight the good fight in the face of deportation or after. I have nothing but praise for the woman leads in this movie, Ms Alicia Vikander (a fan you have); that scene where she sang was cinematography magic; and especially to the young actor who played the young daughter. Her acting in this film is way underrated. Could've caused a good shift in the balance or put a notice to the abundance of talent in the Asian sphere (reference Nomadland, K. Reeves) but will remain in the passive therefore a 7star it gets.
Dune (2021)
Mind Blowing
EPIC, GAME CHANGING, STELLAR, HISTORIC MASTERPIECE and TIMELESS. All short words that I can describe after watching this film. Great casting but behind the scenes is what truly makes this film legendary. From production, costume, stunts, choreography, lighting, CGI, location, writing, editing and much appreciation to the director of this saga as this film, in my point of view, didn't miss a step.
Loki (2021)
Once upon a time in Mexico.
The title of this review relates to the exact point when Johnny Depp's character shoots the chef of some pork dish that made his world somehow give joy to his pain and agony of his life. Same applies to my thinking with the MCU universe and the generations that will be touched yet not even know the gift that a "chef" can give to the world. Disney has reinvented itself as a Thanos with Adonai prudence and guidance. An empire and league of it's own now. Much revere and recognition to the playwright, characters, CGI, theatrics that cinema is taking around the corner led by this wonderful company. It looks promising and I'm in for the ride all the way; hopefully in my personal supercar not having to have waited hours on end just to catch a ride; amusement park style. Lol. This show definitely caught me off guard in regards to it's genius of itself and timeline of the the unknown. Bravo.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Great evolution of "comic" movies
Great way to somehow nudge at a viewer's emotional depth and Rathatcher 2 couldn't exemplify that more throughtout this movie as if telling the audience through the writer's of the film that there's consciousness and a warmth in just being human alone. Great acting and casting throughout. Also, have to mention of the US "dirty little secrets" in this day of age and how it somehow correlates and corresponds through this youthful nation's history.
ZeroZeroZero (2019)
World class in its own right
This show has justice, vengeance and humanity to a point where you have to see the commonality and compassion we as human beings have. This show has made me cry especially the last episode. And the first 15 minutes of the last episode couldn't have been filmed, written, scripted, acted any better that it was and should be a study to itself. Magnificent show and thank you for the effort, dedication and all that was given to this show. Bravo.
The Flight Attendant (2020)
Whoa
As a reviewer wrote, this show is much better than I expected. Kaley's acting, facial and body expressions is superbly underrated. The supporting cast couldn't be better. HBO quality with the cinematography, writing, directing, etc. HBO shows is a class in its own right that I'd pay top dollar for or if it was a private university I'd go broke and majorly in debt for the rest of my life just to be an alum. Keep up.
Euphoria (2019)
Thank you.
In this era of this pandemic, social awakening, injustice in racial and economical advantage, political divide we can feel alone, isolated, angered, etc. and therefore that road leads to many doors one chooses or is forced into; being good or bad is a relative answer. This show somehow has made me feel connected knowing we all go through similar events and I definitely wish I experienced this show when I was in High School. Hats off to the producer and writer of this show, Mr. Levinson as your direction and vision has propelled a masterpiece of life beyond entertainment purposes and much acknowledgement to HBO for the green light. To the original show from Israel, to which I have not seen yet, thank you for the envelope you pushed. Shalom y'all.
Industry (2020)
Literal roller coaster that has sunk down.
Why on earth would you write off Eric Tao especially with the young grad he took under his wing. First six episodes had a David versus Goliath juggernaut going with Eric and his grad then took a social perspective with the me-too movement and race-centric attitude that didn't need to be touched as the financial market sees nothing but the cows being milked regardless of who's tending them. I do not know how this season will end as I have been turned off to see this epic fall of a climax of a season. Maybe I'll be so bored out of my mind to bet/hedge that I was misconceived and the momentum will shift back towards how it went the first six episodes but I highly doubt that as of right now or the near future.

The Undoing (2020)
Riveting.
A true masterpiece of a show/performance/directing/writing in a league of its own as its Shakespearean. An equalization of humanization. Nicole Kidman is an anchor of an astute actor and Sutherland has transcended. Just finished the 3rd show out of 6 and the potential and finalization of what this show is will only scratch the surface of a world meant to be unknown but is seen and felt directly in front of us. Kudos to all on this show as it has beat to its own drum and made the heart curate bloodlines making way to pulsate.
