Messiah (2020)
Just a really good show
Some people will hate this show off the bat for its accurate use of abrahamic religious texts to make the story as realistic as possible. Personally I loved that about the show. I have very religious friends who also enjoyed the show so can say for a fact it isn't offensive in any way, it's just incredibly accurate to the religious teachings so has upset some fundamentalists. But could anyone make a show about the Messiah being either a con man or the actual Messiah without it upsetting some religious people? I was very disappointed to see this got cancelled, a lot of people claim it was because of religious backlash but the truth is it was unfortunately a show filmed around the world in the height of COVID so they just called it a day. Even knowing it's been cancelled I would still recommend this to anyone, for me it's the biggest mistake anyone's made since firefly got cancelled and that's saying something.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget (2023)
Why do kids film promote children ignoring parents to do dangerous things
Look say what you like about me for getting so annoyed at this but why do all big kids films promote children ignoring what they're are told is dangerous by their parents. The premise of this film is literally a child ignoring her parents to do something that would 100% lead to her death. Then everything works out perfectly fine. The only message this film seems to give is ignore your parents when they say to not cross the road, ignore them when they say don't run off and if they say strangers are dangerous then don't worry just get in a strangers van and go to fun land. It's actually at the point where I have serious questions for the people behind these plot choices. Its genuinely like the people behind this film want to make children easier to kidnap. People need to be helpful accountable, if I made a film about a kid sticking a fork in a plug socket and it giving me powers people would be in outrage so why is this any different?
Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! (2022)
Honestly my favourite thing I've ever seen
I'm a fan of anime, and a fan of isekai so this has effected my rating, however I honestly think this is a comedic masterpiece that anyone could enjoy. I will leave this review spoiler free because I wouldn't be able to stop listing all the great moments this show has created. To sum it up for those who are trying to figure out if this is for them please read below, if not stop reading to stay completely in the dark.
A guy spends his entire life to basically make himself into the perfect main character but also doesn't want the attention of being the main character. After he passes in our world he is reborn into a world of magic and fantasy like most isekai. The difference is that he doesn't have a fancy purpose like most protagonists, the only thing he has is a relentless desire to complete his goal of being the ultimate boss for this world. This may seem minor but it makes the show, the guys whole purpose for being is to make everyone think his sole purpose is to better the world. You have armies of people thinking this guy is a god, which as far as power goes is correct, but in reality he is a big kid playing super hero. Honestly if you listen to me about anything it's that this anime will be the funniest thing you've watched, the only anime that comes close is konosuba and that's saying something.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
One mission incompetent : the most infuriating films you'll ever see
I love a good mission impossible film but this has ruined the entire franchise for me. Ethan goes head first on a horse into trained assassins, firstly how stupid is he and secondly how can none of them hit him and manages to kill most of them. Then he saves the girl and decides to get the key and destroy the entity in order to save the world - perfectly fine idea. This idea goes out the window when he sees a pretty girl steal a key from someone else. After she takes the key he decided to immediately trust this known thief with the safety off the world and ignore his self set mission. He endlessly saves a woman he fancies, who continuously betrays him and leaves him for dead. This woman is being hunted by people she clearly understand are more capable killers than she is yet whenever she gets help from Ethan she betrays him in a way that never really helps her out just puts him in a worse situation. AI is tracking Ethan's thought patterns to predict the best moves to make so it's suggested he stop thinking like he normally does and acts more methodical to which he simply says "no". Then Ethan has a choice between the woman who's betrayed him and the woman who clearly loves him and has his best interests at heart and he can't seem to make the obvious call. They try to fight off the whole security team when they are sitting next to their boss with a knife on the table. She just let the villain walk out because he threatens her life but at no point do they think to do the same to her, grace even picks up the knife and has to get passed her to flee. Then the woman Ethan saves who clearly loves him decides to save the same woman who continuously betrays the team and decides that instead of using her sword to keep distance between her and the man with a knife she should jump on to his shoulders. The guy is literally holding a knife and inch from her kidneys and she has a sword that now can't reach him, but fear not he doesn't capitalize on that for some strange reason. The whole things a joke, Ethan has no issue killing all the people at the beginning of the film to save a woman he cares about but then doest kill any of the people he should along the way through the film. The film could be 30mins if he was actually a spy because he would kill the people who were a threat to global security. I get it's a film so they flesh it out, but that usually requires you to add more to the story but instead they repeat the same story of "hello miss, I just saved your life - oh no she trapped me in a dangerous situation and ran off with the key". This man is the guy the secret service call when they can't get a job done and we find out he has become an old pervert so attracted to a much younger criminal he will risk the world to try and win her over. Don't get me wrong I'm sure on paper they thought it would be a good film but then someone decided it needed to be 3 hours and they didn't bother writing anything extra to make it warrant being 3 hours. I had to take a break half way through the film because i couldn't handle the stupidity. I love fantasy and scifi so don't care if things are realistic but I need to believe the character could exist. I just can't believe this version of Ethan hunt could be a real person, he is incompetent. I ended up cheering for the AI because it made rational decisions unlike anyone else in the film. The only thing I can compare this film to is telling someone with a PhD in neuroscience not to touch fire because it's hot then watching them continuously touch the fire until the fire gives up burnint them.
Rosie & Jim (1990)
Honest and pure
Great show designed for kids that an adult wouldn't hate having to watch with them. I remember loving this as a child and truly couldn't fault it. The simple let me read you a story type show becomes something so much more when you have these loveable characters brought to life by the actual author. It's not something you're going to enjoy now but it's still the perfect show for small children. They will love the colour and the story elements and you can trust it won't having anything you wouldn't want them seeing. They don't play up to what kids want like some shows, they just teach them valuable lessons about life in a fun way. Its pure positivity that promotes good behaviour.
Tots TV (1993)
An honest a pure show perfect for small children
I don't want to sound too ridiculously but I credit this show and all the others like it if it's time with why a lot of my friends grew up to be good people. They don't make many shows like this anymore and they should. Every episode was brilliant as a small kid whilst also helping show you how to behave around other people. None of this doing bad things for a good reason stuff we see today it was pure hearted and something a parent could leave their kid watching for hours without it having a devastating effect. It didn't rub ideology in your face, it just reinforced being kind and taught them a view things about life on the way. A real nation treasure.
Aunty Donna's Big Ol' House of Fun (2020)
Not for me
I usually love this sort of stupid nonsensical comedy but these guys were just a little to far for me. A couple bits had me laughing but bare in mind I was properly stoned and still struggled so god knows how everyone else managed
