Cañaveral de pasiones (1996)
Best "Telenovela"
This was one of the great "telenovelas". I am waiting for any of the Spanish networks to broadcast it again. The story is very good, very "believable" if I may say, considering it's a soap opera. The love story is plausible and the antagonists do have a somewhat logical excuse. Azela Robinson, as Dinorah is one of the best villains I've ever seen, she's truly devious. I loved her character, she's one under-appreciated actress. I think this is one of the last "telenovelas" I saw. So many are dull and repetitive, where the bad guys are so bad you can't possibly believe they're for real. This is a true original. Daniela Castro and Juan Soler have good chemistry, they're so cute. I wish I could see it again, in full, not a 60 minute cut.
Happy Feet (2006)
Loved Music, Hated Movie
Am I the only person in this country that didn't like this movie? I loved the music though. But the plot was just so, I'm looking for a word...let me think...idiotic. After watching "March of the Penguins" and suffering with the penguins ****spoiler**** a lost egg is lost, period not "rescued yet born with a defect". I thought that there was no need to explain Mumbo's problem, like any kid that is born with a defect. Why was he/she born like that? Well, we don't know, period. I thought that would've been more intelligent. I couldn't stand Nicole Kidman's voice trying to emulate Marilyn Monroe and Hugh Jackman (a man that I fantasize about, that's how much I like the guy) talking like Elvis, I wanted to rip him off the screen. The only good thing about this movie are the Mexican penguins, those are worth a spin off. Lots of laughs there! Out of nowhere, it appears that the penguin community is really mean to Mumbo, the weirdo guy who can't sing and has not molted (which I thought was done only to make him look cute as all the penguins look exactly the same, and let me tell you, animated penguins do not translate well with this technology, they're pretty much ugly) because somebody is eating their fish and Mumbo decides that he can save the world and the whole thing turns into the "Iron Penguin" with his transmitter and all. Uuuggghhh. Fortunately I had seen Flushed Away a couple of days before and was able to overlook this "faux pas" and forgive Jackman.
