Nowhere (2023)
Kept my attention
I love survival movies. Castaway is one of my all time favorites. There are definitely plot holes and unrealistic scenes, but I was still invested in the outcome. Though many on here have given scathing reviews, I don't think it deserves the vitriol by some reviewers. I can't imagine thoroughly hating a movie so much that you willingly keep watching to the end. I honestly think there are some cynical reviewers on here that live to see how nasty they can make a review. I didn't find the nudity gratuitous at all. It made sense to me, and I often think nudity is overused in modern movies. Breasts serve a functional purpose, and that's how they were used here. If anyone is offended by them then I suppose they think of them as purely sexual. If you like survival movies, this is worth your time.
Silo (2023)
I can barely see it
So annoyingly dim I can't continue. Every scene is very washed out looking. This seems to be a trend in series and it baffles me. What's the point? The sound seems dampened too. I had to turn the volume way up just to hear it. The poor lighting and sound makes it unwatchable for me. It's so monotone. The story needs to be much more fast paced. I think there is a good story in there but there is way too much filler and it takes too long for something to happen. It literally looks like this was filmed in a dust storm. If this is an artistic choice it's a poor one. I'm sorry I wasted time on 3 episodes.
The Mindy Project (2012)
Dr?
I would enjoy this show more if Mindy wasn't a doctor. She often portrays Mindy as a silly lovesick teenager. Very immature but witty at the same time. Doctors do not act this vapid. If they do I don't want them to be my doctor. There are some funny lines and it's light and brainless. Maybe this was supposed to be in the same vein as Scrubs. I soon found the character to be annoying. I like Mindy Kaling. She was terrific as Kelly in The Office playing a desperate man hungry girl/woman. This character seems an extension of Kelly with the unlikely premise that Kelly could actually make it through med school.
Ricky Gervais: SuperNature (2022)
So so
I love RG's TV series. Especially Extras, The Office, and After Life. He's a very good actor capable of being humane and sensitive. His stand up often leaves me cold. There are amusing moments, but much of it is poking fun at transgenders, non-binary, and professing his atheism. He's entitled to his opinion. I have a friend that transitioned and it was a heavy emotional experience for her fraught with family and societal negativity. If you care for someone that is trans, you want the best for them and I doubt you would appreciate his jokes. I find them juvenile and lame. I'm not a huge fan of organized religion either but the atheism schtick has gotten old for me.
The Girl from Plainville (2022)
Way too long and slow
I was really looking forward to this because I remember this story from the news. Needs editing, and a lot of it. This could have been told in half the time. The acting is decent. One big pet peeve: expecting the audience to read numerous texts from a phone screen. Not everyone has an 85" TV. This seems so basic to me.
The Bubble (2022)
Fun
I don't get the low ratings. It's a decent movie. Certainly not awful. I enjoy many of the actors and it's fine for a Sunday afternoon. I'll watch Keegan Michael Key in anything.
Euphoria (2019)
Raw
I've only watched 2 episodes and I need a break. It's that rough. The acting is very good. Zendaya earned her Emmy award. The cinematography is outstanding and inventive. At times it felt like a Scorsese film, especially how music is almost constantly woven in and the overall bluntness of everyone and every situation. I can tell this is a well done show but it's seriously draining me. I hate how kids have to grow up way too fast. It makes me glad I don't have kids. I would be a nervous wreck if I had teens right now. I could not handle it knowing the reality of growing up. It just makes me feel less hopeful for our future. That's how awful reality feels to me in today's world.
Voir (2021)
Slow it down
I wanted to love this. I easily could have if it wasn't edited so choppily. The clips are rammed together so quickly I can barely follow. It's highly irritating and is a disservice to the content. Moving at a breakneck speed has its place, but a documentary about film isn't the place for it. For crying out loud let us savor what we're watching.
Blood Red Sky (2021)
Fast paced horror
Don't let the really low reviews sway you. This is a decent film. I think a lot of unhappy-with-life trolls come just to have fun trashing. Or maybe some are film snobs. I found this well acted, engrossing and different than your usual horror plot line. Only dislike I have is implied danger to dogs. Why even go there? I just look away and tell myself it's not real. Kill the bad guys, yes, but leave animals out of it.
Penguin Town (2021)
I adore Patton Oswalt.
Oswalt is always a good narrator. Very informative and fun to watch, until real life rears it's ugly head. Truth is there are always predators and bad weather conditions to tend with. Many of the close calls turn out well, thankfully. I have to take a break for now. I can't handle any more potentially sad circumstances. This world has so many beautiful creatures, but life is always so hard.
The Ice Road (2021)
Decent action thriller
Of course there are the usual malcontents posting their "awful!" reviews, as usual. My favorite is the one claiming too much white racism. Ha! I have no idea what they're talking about. I pity the poor fools! The veteran actor Liam Neesum is not to be messed with, as usual. He can practically snap a much younger guy in to pieces. When will villains learn to not trifle with him?! I thought the action scenes of semi trucks on the ice were pretty entertaining. This is a good movie to give your brain a much needed rest from the upside down world we now live in. Get your fave snacks and drinks and enjoy!!
Stowaway (2021)
Good flick
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It's not an award winner, but it held my attention start to finish. I can't say that about many movies lately. I knew there would be plenty of one or low star reviews for this. Those sour pusses always come here to unleash their venom. They are often overly critical about everything in their sorry little lives. Don't listen to them. All of the actors are good. Give this movie a try and enjoy a solid 2 hour escape from life.
