After The Dark/ The Philosopher is a movie focusing on hypothetical scenarios created by a philosophy teacher on the last day of class with his students. The movie has the class and teacher run through different apocalyptic scenarios using logic, emotion etc. To determine who gets a place in the bunker and who doesn't based on their skills, attributes and traits. The movie is really interesting in that aspect, seeing how people decide on who lives and who dies based on their particular skills and characteristics. I enjoyed the story, though some of the decisions made and the logic got rather confusing, if not down right illogical at times.
The cast was actually really stacked with a lot of names that would go on to make it big later on. We have James D'Arcy as Jack the school teacher, Sophia Lowe as Petra his top student and girlfriend of James, played by Rhys Wakefield. There is also Daryl Sabara as Chips, Bonnie Wright as Georgina, Erin Moriarty as Vivian and the beautiful Katie Findlay as Bonnie. The entire cast put on brilliant performances and I for one enjoyed them all.
The VFX and SFX is also really lovely, it helps to set the tone of the movie and the twists and turns as logic makes or breaks the decisions made throughout the story.
Overall a solid 8/10 from me, My review doesn't highlight any glaring inconsistency's in the story, cast or effects, but the movie is on the slower side and is also not of the style that will entertain everyone. Still good story, brilliant cast and enjoyable effects and soundtrack.
