Reviews
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Laughing loads from the get go.
This film is bizarre, hilarious, heart-wrenching and purely amazing. Taika Waititi has created a masterpiece that perfects the art of satirical films. I found myself laughing quite a bit with in the first few minutes as it was that good. My favourite bit of the has to be the german shepherd joke. Massive love for the set, costume and prop design as they all worked so well together and blended nicely from the contrasting locations of woods to the town. I would defiantly watch it again, and it feels like such a bargain for £5 on DVD from my local supermarket.
Eddie the Eagle (2015)
Perfect Sunday afternoon feel good film.
Despite knowing the film's outcome, I found myself fully rooted and invested in Eddie's story every step of the way. I had moments on the edge of my chair shouting, "come on, Eddie", moments of sadness, but also moments where I was full of cheer and joy. Such a heartwarming story about always finding a way to compleating your dreams. Though also one about how it's taking the part that counts as cliche as it sounds.
Eddie, played by Taron Egerton, was a superb actor and choice for this role. They couldn't have picked anyone better for this role, and I feel the same with Hugh Jackman. An unlikely pair that I want to see more of in the future in other projects as well as more work of them both individually. I would defiantly watch this film again.
Darkest Hour (2017)
superb film with stunning acting and visuals.
Such a superb film with stunning acting and visuals. I can't get over how amazingly Gary Oldman portrayed Winston Churchill. Honestly couldn't have picked a better actor. I also loved the cinematography and set design massively. It captured the film in such a way that it reinforced in why I love film so much. Every time the camera moved through the underground rooms as it followed the characters had in me in awe.
I feel like I learnt so much about the war through this film that I didn't know before and found it quite gripping. On occasion, I asked my brother a question to make sure I understood the film correctly as he knew so much more about the war than I did.
In general, I haven't seen many films based on war as they are not what I would gravitate towards. However, if more films were told like this, I'd be up for watching them. I would watch this again as I enjoyed it a lot.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
Lost for most of the film but superb acting.
I tried so hard to get into this film as it has a superb cast that I love but also as the trailer gave the sense of film that would be a lot more dramatic than it turned out to be. Instead I found myself lost for most of the film with no idea what was going. I understood the intro set up but once it cut away from that was when the confusion kicked in. Towards the end of the film when they took us back to that character I was able to piece some of the film together as they supplied information for that to happen. The film then seemed to pick up and go at the dramatic pace I was longing for until it then seemed to end very abruptly. I seemed to have finished the film with more questions than answers and thinking of rewatching it in the hope I might be able to piece more of the film together.
Honestly I feel a bit sad at how I went in with high expectations from having seen the trailer and almost none of them where met. Other to unconfuse myself I wouldn't watch it again.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Gangsters you'll fall in love with.
Where do I even start with how much I loved this film. I loved the way they told the narrative through two people in a posh house. Thought that was really clever and gave insight into the characters by having them know the other characters in the film. Felt quite clever at times and I'd love to see more films that play out like this. I also loved all of the action, comedy and drama that came with the film. I think I'm starting to develop a love for films like this as I also love The Kingsman series which this felt similar too in my opinion.
The only reason I couldn't give it 10 stars was due to moments in which it jumped about. There were a few moments where one minute I thought something had happened and then the next minute they were saying it didn't happen like that it happened like this instead. Made it a bit hard to follow in places. Having said that I would happily watch this film again and can't wait to see what comes next in this series.
Military Wives (2019)
Touching film
Touching film about the lives of Military Wives and their journey of starting a choir to singing at the Royal Albert Hall. Found myself fully invested in the journey the woman where on and was excited to see the hard work come together towards the end of the film. Full of both sad and funny moments that showed some of the meany sides of being Military Wife. Would watch again.
This Beautiful Fantastic (2016)
heart warming feel good story
A nice heart warming feel good story that kept me entertained the whole way through. Would have liked to have seen more exploration of the characters as I feel by the time I started to get to know some of the film was over. I did however, like that plot was centred around the main character Bella's garden.
Would I watch it again probably not as I don't think I'd get the same enjoyment out of it knowing how the film ends.
