Servant (2019)
Started with a bang but going nowhere
Someone already pointed it out - started really suspenseful and could make you tense and arched like a nervous cat. 2-3 episodes later, they lost the plot. Nothing happened for several episodes, the story didn't move. Great direction and acting but they all carry the carcass of a dead plot. Season 2 is more confusing and castrated. Like so many shows - taking off and weaving a complex web is easy, landing it and untangling the threads is very hard. Unfortunately, this show is just an annoyance now.
The Undoing (2020)
Great performances in a threadbare plot
Powerful performances. Beautiful production. Unfortunately, looks like they spent all the money on actors and production and forgot to hire any writers. There are only six episodes and little happens in the first 4. Other than some drama, the plot barely moves until the very last scene of the episodes. I think the show purports to be a crime drama but I feel it does poor job of being either - crime or drama. On the crime side, the entire show sorts of floats in this evidence free narrative until the last episode and clinching clues are revealed rather disjointedly. A good crime story drip feeds clues and follows up on them - this one has so many holes. The court scenes are just laughable - any TV/Movie court expert will declare the whole legal aspect of the show as a mockery of the Movie/TV justice system. If you have watched a lot of legal dramas - you will find yourself eye rolling almost in every scene where law, police or courts are involved.
On the drama side, the strong performances do a great job of covering it up - but the characters are black and white, and not very deep. And their dilemmas and flaws are revealed - again - very awkwardly.
And finally, cliches - the show has every cliche you can imagine.
