Mediocre mess
8 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was the second film I ever saw in theaters, and the first I saw with friends, so this will always hold a place in my heart despite it being quite mediocre. Like, Margo falls for a boy Antonio, and the relationship just ends so unceremoniously and in such a rushed manner? Seriously? Not oy that, Gru talking about the kid to Ramsbottom, it made me and all my friends and even my family when they finally saw it later convinced Antonio was part of the plot. But nope. What a waste. Also, I never felt as if the romance between Gru and Lucy was natural. Felt kinda shoe-horned in. It felt as if the girls had no real point in the movie as well. Basically, to wrap it up, the plot is one big mess.

Now, for the good: the soundtrack and score are good. The humor is even more on-point than the first movie. I would argue that this one is funnier. The pacing is pretty good. So, yeah, in the end, it's pretty mediocre. The plot is a mess, but everything else is at least decent.

A good enough return
7 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have always loved "Phineas and Ferb." The first episode I ever saw was the one with "Gitchee Gitchee Goo." So, I was an early fan. When the show ended, I was crushed. So, when I heard about this movie I got excited. Well, I don't have Disney+, and that is the only way to watch it (legally). So, I didn't have a chance to watch it until now. Anyway, it was fine. It wasn't great by any means. This is the first Phineas and Ferb special or movie to be, in my opinion, forgettable. I just saw this last night and I am struggling to remember much of what happened. It basically felt like a really extended TV show episode to be honest, as opposed to a movie. Kinda felt like it dragged on too long. The villain reminded me a lot of the villain from LEGO Movie 2, but less charismatic and less funny. The songs in this movie weren't all that good to be honest and were, well, forgettable. There really aren't any songs I feel interested in listening to again.

So, I have been quite negative on this so far, but now I want to discuss what I liked about this, because I don't want it to sound as if I think this movie sucked, because I don't. It's good, but forgettable. Anyway, this movie contains a lot of heart, the kind of heart to be expected from Phineas and Ferb. A little too on-the-nose, but still heartwarming. This movie focuses on Candace instead of Phineas and Ferb this time around, and we see her as she feels as if she isn't special, as if she doesn't matter, and her summer has been miserable. So, she gets taken to a planet where she is the chosen one. Eventually, of course, as easily predicted, this isn't a good thing, and she learns that she is special to Phineas and Ferb, and is loved.

The other good thing is that while the humor isn't that great in this movie, there are some genuinely hilarious moments, but don't expect this to be quite as funny as previous movies and specials. The scene of the characters getting returned to a storyboard state and getting to see the creators of the show was a highlight in humor for me.

Great characters...and that's about it
6 August 2021
Well, first off, Tom Hanks is the star of the movie. So, yeah, acting is pretty top-notch as you would expect. Everyone is quite good in their roles, especially Tom Hanks. Outside of that, the movie is kinda mixed, but one thing it does very well is character development. We start the film with the girl, Johanna only being able to speak Kiowa, and Captain Kidd (Hanks' character) trying to speak to her with German and English. Getting near the end they're speaking a mix of Kiowa, German, and English to each other as they are learning from each other. Heck, even outside of language they learn from each other, such as Johanna teaching Kidd to use money inside of bullets to kill the kidnappers. The strength of the characters and character development is really what the movie relies on, because everything else is kinda meh. I honestly don't remember anything from the score (and film scores are something I pay attention to), I thought a few scenes went on too long, namely, the shootout, and honestly, that whole scene just felt out of place in the movie. Anyway, this movie is good, but not great. Still recommend though. It just depends on how much you care about character development in movies. If you really care, you'll probably like this movie. If not, stay away, this film isn't for you. That's pretty much all this film brings to the table.

Fun and sweet
5 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is such a wonderful gem of a movie. No matter how many times I see it, it never gets old. It's just so fun to watch. You see this aging supervillain get shown up by a much younger supervillain, and to top him, cynically adopts three girls who will unknowingly give him access to the thing he needs, but unfortunately for him, learns to love the girls. It's sweet, really sweet. You see Gru slowly learn to care and love the girls. The movie is genuinely hilarious at moments, it's super sweet, and honestly just well made. It's very well paced, never getting too fast or too slow, well-written, a good score and even better soundtrack, honestly, this movie just rocks. It's a fun time for the whole family.

Important to my childhood
4 August 2021
This is a pretty fun movie for the family with a great villain who is infinitely re-quotable, and Wilbur is just the best. The two scenes of him in the hospital are some of the best moments in a Disney movie, ever imo. That, and you will never get the "Home on the Range" parody out of your head. Anyway, this movie was super important to my childhood, seen it hundreds of times, I love it despite knowing it's not the greatest film. It's good, not great.

A family-friendly fun commentary on minorities in America
27 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm like how this film shows a more human side of The Addams Family than in the 90's live-action films. While those were more entertaining due to generally just being more twisted and deranged, this film takes a different approach. It shows how strange and and times twisted The Addams Family can be, but it shows that at the end of the day, they are human (while the 90's did everything to show that they're not human, but "Addams'" instead). It shows how judgemental they can be, and also how scared they are. They are terrified of the outside world because of how they were treated in the past. The outside world wants to kill them, and Morticia and Gomez want to protect their kids from that, but wow it backfires hard. This film really does a good job of expressing the feelings of minority groups in today's America: very worried, very much under attack, but also hoping that maybe society is finally becoming more accepting. The most important part of this is "Assimilation," which in this film is a literal town right next door. For minorities, like me, people, who often live right next door often want to force minorities to be just like the majority. They want to force black people to "act white" or look whiter with their hairstyles and fashion. They want gay and trans people to just be straight and cis-gender. They promote literal torture such as conversion therapy in hopes it will assimilate minorities to be like the majority. They just want everyone to act and look the same, like Ms. Needler who ran "Assimilation," not caring about the toll it takes on minorities (or in this case, the Addams). Then, if the minorities refuse to assimilate, they must be gotten rid of, like Needler tried to do. There is nothing worse than minorities not only living, which is horrible enough, but minorities unabashedly being themselves and not hiding it at all. It shows how bigots claim that minorities are an "infestation" and trying to destroy "our community". The film didn't stop there. It also serves as a critique of the policing within minority communities, the belief that there's only one way to be black or trans and how damaging it is to those in those communities. How assimilation is something that even happens in minority groups. Another thing that the movie showed decently well is how hatred and bigotry is pushed on social media and it slowly ramping up. I didn't like how the movie implies that bigots can be changed as long as they have exposure to minorities and see their humanity. This is often not the case, but I understand that this is a kids movie, so they had had to have a happy ending.

Also, the "Hag Network" gag was hilarious.

A problematic "classic"
24 July 2021
This movie is definitely misogynistic. The "little girls" song was creepy and disturbing. An old man singing about little girls (shudder). Also, seriously? Little girls exist to make little boys happy? Seriously? The songs in this movie are pretty bad to be honest. They're simple to a fault with cringey lyrics and generally not sung well. The uncle is full of horrible advice. Honestly, the worst thing about this movie is how suicide is treated. It's treated as a spectacle that is enjoyed, which is frankly horrifying. I also hate how it pushes that romance is needed in one's life, and that life is empty without it. Hate that messaging so much.

A hilarious family fun-time
19 July 2021
I love this movie. It's honestly probably one of my favorite animated films ever as it's a blast to watch each and every time. Sure, it has some problems, namely relying too much on gross-out humor, but overall it's absolutely hilarious (also the Shira storyline isn't all that well developed). I think it gets close to being as funny as the first film. Granny is a hoot, and probably my favorite Ice Age character if I'm being honest. I love the Captain Gutt song and Louis is so adorable, I love him. He's such a great boyfriend for Peaches. Also, the Scrat scenes are actually pretty good again. They've sucked outside of the first film so far. Anyway, in my honest opinion, this is almost as good as the first film.

A truly demented but fun time
18 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Wow. This movie was disturbing, twisted, and dark. The first movie was just weird. This one is downright twisted. I mean, Wednesday Addams gets a bunch of her campmates to burn it down and (seemingly) kill a lot of the people there. Speaking of Wednesday, the actress who plays her (don't remember her name) is honestly fantastic. She plays the character so we'll and is genuinely creepy, especially her smile. She's the best part of the movie. It's also disturbing watching her and Pugsley try to kill their new baby brother and the movie end with Pubert, the baby, kill the villain. It's so disturbing. Fun, but disturbing. That said, the movie does have a few problems, mainly that the story feels disjointed at times. But yeah, it's a fun twisted film overall.

A weirdly fun time
17 July 2021
It's a fun time watching this, in fact, I forgot just how fun this film could be at times. That said, this film really relies too much on its weirdness. In fact, some moments felt as if they were included for the sole purpose of letting everyone know how weird the Addams Family is, rather than having an actual point. This film is fine, but it's nothing great. Most of it is completely forgettable though, except for the Mumushka and how much Gomez and Morticia love each other. Seriously, their love for each other is so wholesome and beautiful. It's endearing.

Fun but mediocre
9 July 2021
This is basically Space Jam if it were made in China and about soccer instead of basketball. Never done drugs, but I felt as if I were high the whole film. It's a trip, let me tell you. It's the definition of weird, and I'm not sure if it's for the better or for the worst. The movie can be incredibly cringey at times. All in all, it's a fun time for the most part, but not that great. Doesn't help that the production values aren't the best and the special effects are downright terrible. But it's a fun movie with a lot of heart and is pretty feel good which saves it from being a bad movie. Still not good, but not bad. Just mediocre.

A romance movie I actually like
8 July 2021
Look, I don't like romance movies. They're not for me. But I like this one. WALL-E is adorable. I found myself rooting for him, for the most part. There were a few moments I found his over-eagerness for EVE to be annoying, mainly when he got them in trouble. But, WALL-E has heart, which is weird to say about a robot. The charming nature of WALL-E's love for EVE is too much to ignore and made me fall in love with this movie. It's great and one of the few Disney/Pixar films I actually like.

A forgettable (but good) follow-up to "Going My Way"
7 July 2021
I'm going to be honest: this movie was forgettable. After "Going My Way" (the first film of the duology) and hearing that this movie was even better, I was looking forward to seeing this. "Going My Way" was better. I'm struggling to remember much from this movie. It's fine, but it's too similar story-wise to "Going My Way," and with less interesting characters. It feels almost like a remake with how similar in story it is. Father O'Malley goes to some run-down Catholic place that's about to be torn down and has to help redeem some overly-conservative leader of it. Meanwhile, there's a romantic side story that has it's turning point with a song sung by O'Malley telling them what to do. Don't get me wrong, this is still a good film, but ultimately it's forgettable.

An ensuring classic
6 July 2021
What an amazing film. It really does a great job of setting up the movie, allowing you to see what the atmosphere is like, what is the source of the event that sets everything in motion. Then, it just never stops beautifully showing us everything just as we need to know it. It reveals to us Rick's backstory slowly, but all in perfect timing. Honestly, it might be a perfectly paced movie. The dialogue is some of the best in any movie, period. Some of the most iconic movie quotes of all-time come from this film, such as "Here's looking at you kid." It's an amazing movie all around that will keep your eyes glued to the screen wondering what happens next. There's a reason this is considered such an all-time great, because it is still, to this day, so good. It has stood the test of time.

Unlikeable characters can still make for a fun movie
28 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's amazing how pretty much everyone in this movie is a complete psychopath and a menace to society and yet we're expected to care about any of these characters, especially Stitch. I mean, he literally ruined Lilo and Nani's life. They SHOULD have thrown him out. It actually annoys me that they didn't. Anyway, it's a genuinely entertaining movie that's pretty hilarious but wow it's amazing how none of the characters are even remotely likeable outside of the guy who just wants to eat his mint chip ice cream and something always happens to prevent him from doing so. That and Nani's boyfriend.

Pure cringe
26 June 2021
Well, Jessie, James and Meowth ALMOST stole Pikachu for once. Outside of that this movie is awful. It's a complete cringe-fest. There is nothing I hate more than a cringe-fest. The movie could be a Schindler's List level quality movie and I would still hate it because of the cringe. I don't do cringe, and this movie was constant cringe.

An actually good action movie
25 June 2021
This movie really had no business being as good as it was. The action is still thrilling to watch. I have seen this movie before and I still feel the tension in the action, I still feel scared for the characters, despite knowing what will happen because the fight scenes are that good. But, even more than that, it's the characters that make it so special. Watching this kid, John Conner's and just how human, or should I say, how much of a kid he is despite being raised to be a tough military leader basically from birth and having his mom get sent to a psych ward and his dad being from the future and therefore not knowing him. You actually get to see how this affects him and how important it is to him to have the closest thing he has had to a father figure who happens to be a killing machine from the future sent to protect him. There's also Sarah who isn't handling any of the news of Judgement Day well at all. She has nightmares about it and is obsessed with ensuring it never happened to the point of attempting to kill the man who made it all possible. It's one of the best action movies ever for a good reason. If you haven't seen it yet, please do yourself a favor and check it out. I don't even like action movies, but I love this. Heck, my mom who also doesn't like action movies loves this. It is that good that people who don't like this genre like this movie.

A literal headache
21 June 2021
Yeah, this one wasn't all that good. The 3D in this movie was abysmal. They really shouldn't have kept using 3D in these movies, but for some god-forsaken reason they did. The story is completely forgettable. While the other Pokemon movies so far did at least a decent job of feeling like movies instead of extended TV show episodes, this absolutely felt like a extended TV show episode. Also, why did they make Latio and Latia communicate with high-pitched sounds? I legitimately was getting a headache 37 minutes in because of it. Not a good movie.

An actually pretty fun Pokemon movie
20 June 2021
This movie is actually kinda decent. It was a fun watch. Whoever is making these films are finally getting decent. This isn't some dumb kids film. It's a entertaining family film. The voice acting is actually kinda good, the 2D animation is pretty good, FAR better than the previous three films. The 3D in this film was awful though. The villain is really one-note, but so fun to watch I didn't care one bit. The story itself was pretty original like the last one, though it did have some cliched moments. The dialogue wasn't the best, but serviceable. So, it was a pretty decent movie. I can recommend it.

It's something all right
19 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was... something... It's kind of a weird movie. The characters are great and fascinating, I want to see so much more of them, but most of the events that happen make little sense once you think about them for even a second. The dialogue is pretty bad at points. For the sequel I genuinely hope they get a better screen-writer. Honestly, the only thing I really liked about this movie is that it's queer as all hell (I mean, it's literally a movie about a girl who is forced to repress her true self because she has been taught her true self is unacceptable and learning to accept herself as an adult). Honestly though, there's no real reason to watch this movie unless you're a Disney die-hard (God help you), or a fan of 101 Dalmatians (like me). It's not that great and you'll probably forget just about everything that happens shortly after the movie ends.

Great for kids, not so much for adults
18 June 2021
This 3rd entry in the Ice Age franchise is mediocre. Better than the second film easily, but still mediocre. It's pretty a pretty by-the-numbers sequel. Take everything from the previous films that everyone loved and just keep doing those things and don't try anything new. That said, newcomer to the series, Buck is great and easily the best addition to the series yet (yes, better than Ellie, Crash & Eddie). He is a fascinating and fun character and I am glad they're making a movie all about him. He would be fun to see much more of and focus on and learn more about. The Scrat scenes aren't interesting at all and I would say actually boring. The story itself is even more unbelievable than the two previous stories, though for the worst. Is Sid an idiot? Yes. But he always had a heart and did whatever he could to survive. In this movie he makes decisions baffling even for his character. So, he's staring down a dinosaur mother and doesn't hand back the babies? That's dumb for even Sid. That and they start up this story of Diego feeling as if he's losing his edge and really don't do much with it, which was disappointing. Anyway, it was mediocre in the end. Fun for kids, maybe mildly amusing for adults, especially the adult jokes (e.g., "It's a boy! Congratulations!" "Sid, that's a tail.").

An all-time classic
15 June 2021
It's a film that revolves around characters who are a bunch of phonies who are self-infatuated with their own status and will do anything to protect their status. None of these characters necessarily have to be though, especially when Lina Lamont (the closest thing there is to being a villain) is so over-the-top awful. The charm of the film is the music and dance numbers along with the thrilling story of Hollywood backstabbing. Mostly the music though. Almost all of the songs are extremely memorable (my favorite is "Make Them Laugh") and it's easy to see why this musical is so highly thought of.

That said, it does have one pretty big problem: it has a lot of filler. The scene where they show early "talking pictures" didn't need to be so long and "Broadway Melody" is the same. It's 13 minutes that just didn't need to be in the film. It doesn't add anything to the film and almost always just gets skipped.

At the end of the day, there's really nothing about this film that hasn't been said a million times. It's one of the best musicals ever made without a doubt.

Disappointing
13 June 2021
Yeah, I was disappointed by this one. I've heard a lot of good things about this one, but I couldn't enjoy it, too many problems. The kids are not good singers. The movie takes way too long to actually do anything, and then once it starts getting interesting with the arrival of the car, it delves into this story of imagined adventure that pretty much keeps bringing the plot to a halt, including any character development. It's songs are good, though forgettable, minus the titular song. So, yeah, not a good film to be honest which disappointed me.

It's got heart
12 June 2021
This is a film with a lot of heart, enough that I was about to give this movie a higher score than it really deserves. It's a slow-burner, if you have little patience or attention span, don't watch this. For the rest of us though, please check this out. It may be slow, but in my opinion, never unbearably so. It's very consistently paced, which definitely surprised me. The tone was a bit uneven, the start of the movie definitely felt quite different from the rest of the movie. It introduces a lot of characters and resolves all of their storylines minus the atheist at the beginning who gets his window smashed. Did Father O'Malley ever get it fixed? God only knows. Honestly, this movie surprised me. I can genuinely see how this was such a critical darling at the time. While it may not hold up completely today, it is still good. Honestly, my only true complaint is the overly simplistic dialogue. It's a bit noticeable at times, but once again, it's mostly forgiveable due to how much heart this movie exudes.

A sequel that wasn't needed
4 June 2021
This movie was... something... It has none of the heart of the first movie. It's nowhere close to as funny as the first movie, mainly due to it's over-reliance on bodily humor and other juvenile disgusting jokes. It often feels like a series of random events with shoe-horned in emotional moments. It's really not that good to be honest, and easily the most forgettable Ice Age movie. At least it's Scrat moments are still quite good.
