Summer Villa (2016 TV Movie)
6/10
Different and a bit disappointing but still good
3 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I am currently in a big hallmark movies period. And watching everything with Joy Lenz and Hilarie Burton Morgan at this moment. So that's a combo.

I feel most of hallmark movies are Christmas movies but i found this one, starring during the Summer.

If you are a big fan of hallmark movies, you can watch it. It doesn't hurt 😅 though you might find it very different and not the best, and be disappointed. I still give it a 6 (might be more a 5.5) cause i didn't find it totally awful either (but once again, when you watch those type of films it's not cause you're looking for oscar worthy movie but just a comforting movie you already know will end well and exactly how you want it to!).

So if you're not really a fan of hallmarks nor rom-com, i can ensure you, don't watch it, it won't help you change your mind on this type of movies.

OK so here goes some of my raw thoughts (sorry it's a bit disorganised!)

So, here we have Hilarie being a sucessful writer. She's a mom of a teenager. Not a great relationship. She is also very "angry" (like Peyton-angry) cause of her big writer blocage.

Her friend lends her her family vacation house in France (they say). When she arrives with her daughter, it's to find that her friend's brother (i like this actor!) also needed a place to crash and find his voice again (he's a cook who had an awful review and seems to have lost his mojo) so they need to coexist together. Though they don't know each other/don't really like each other. Typical meet between hallmark characters. They start obviously to learn how to live together and enjoy each other company until the final scene when we get out kiss. There are no really magic or spark. It misses the light joyfullness so not really what i was seeking for but it was an okay-film.

There is an alternate storyline with Hilarie's daughter being really interested in cooking and starting to learn from him, which i found really nice.

That was cute and different as we focused on something else than the couple to be. But i wish we've got to see more after the final kiss. It really missed an ending to this movie. I know it's often ending after the Kiss, but as they did another storyline to feel more as a rom-com than a hallmark, it really was not the right writing to just end the movie there. What will happen? Will he open a restaurant instead of doing his show, will the daughter work for him? Etc.

Side notes : There were some not really great moments with "other dates" they got which were not really well done for my taste (the fall in the pool.. Really?)

I found weird to see Hilarie as a mom of a 15-16 years old but that wasn't too distracting. And i remembered she was 35-ish when it aired but she hasn't aged since oth 😅

Everyone had their own thing going on but it didn't all blend together smoothly. I don't know. I felt everything being a bit disconnected. I don't know why or how to explain.

Anyway. That's why it's just a 5.5/10 for me.

The Christmas Secret (2014 TV Movie)

It started slow but it's one of the best hallmark movies
3 March 2024
The beginning was slower and "sadder" than your usual hallmark movie. Usually it's already peppy with a view if both main characters at their job looking for an opportunity etc. This one was very différent from the start.

Sure it still is a hallmark movie and you know how it will end. But it was very different, very well done, it had heart and tears and smiles.

It felt more real. And it got an ending after the Kiss! That's usually what i miss the most in hallmark movies.

Anyway, if you like rom-com this one is a must see, you won't regret it!

And if you dislike hallmark movies just don't watch it instead of criticising it.

And also if you're looking for your typical light funny xmas movie, you might be disappointed as it's a more heartful family story movie. But once again, it was really good, so just watch it!

French acting..... Spoiling a good story
30 December 2023
I loved the book so i watched the show... Oof it's so poorly acted. The main actress learned her text in French, that she did.. But it's such a bad acting. I usually don't like French productions cause the acting is bad. It's usually bearable.. But. Ooof! I'm sorry but she does not know how to act in her second language.. Even Jean Reno disappointed me a little bit but that's not his usual style of role so it's okay!

I'll still watch the whole show but, at the risk of repeating myself, oof! It's awful to watch her. She seems to not believing any word she is saying.. I guess if you don't speak French it won't be noticed as much! So give it a go! The storyline is good.

Time Is Up (2021)
2/10
Disappointed
11 June 2023
I had this film on my list for a while. The cast seems cute, the storyline okay even if not really original.

I had some time to kill so finally decided to watch it.

The acting was surprinsingly bad, no chemistry, no real interaction. I dont know if it's because of the dialogues which were written that way and poor Benjamin Mascolo didnt know what else to do. Bella Thorne was very disappointing, just ready the lines with no emotion whatsoever. The Steve character was really badly written, especially after the event.

Some shots were long for no reason. I didnt understand some other choices of the montage (what was the scene after Roy left in the amusement park?)

I was expecting a cute teen movie like the others, no oscar-worthy films but cute and distracting. Instead i spent the movie fast forwarding some scenes and wondering if we would go somewhere eventually. Nope.

And I'm really not a person that dislikes films!

If you dont want to lose an hour of your life (that the time it took me to finish it while i speed some looong scenes), just don't watch.

The music was good though.
