Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind (2020)
This could have been shorter
It lost me after the first hour. Interesting stuff that I truly believe is real but the latter parts of making contact with ETs feel too Disney fantasy, one of those things I have to experience for myself. It's definitely better edited than Jeremy Cobell's Area 51.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Fun
The hype is a little too extreme for this one. There was no real threat since Doc Strange can go "poof" and fix everything (with a catch) and the other enemies could be neutralized with the tech good guy juice. I only found Willem as the Goblin to be compelling as the rest were often belittled and parodied when they were not uneasy or upset about being in a different universe. I need more danger to really be reeled in and some false sense of safety to keep me on edge but overall it was a very straightforward action superhero movie with the smart and commanding gf and the comic relief buddy with some shock value moments that we all expected but were still surprising.
I think the positives speak for themselves, it was fun.
Chucky: Little Little Lies (2021)
Mostly Boring, Somewhat Underwhelming
I would care about Jake's aunt situation if she had more lines or a significant presence on the show, even better if her 'secret' implied she wasn't who she says she is or that she's possibly being unfaithful with someone we know.
There is plenty to criticize on this one but one more thing I'll mention is how they ruined possessed Nica for me, I had hopes she was lucid and could see Chucky's damage but instead we got an overused multiple personality disorder trope where they change after a trigger. I hope it won't be the case long term.
For the positives, nice to see Chucky leaving his victims in plain sight while also hiding, in plain sight. Need more of that. Also interested in where they're going with Junior from this point onwards.
