Fast X (2023)
While being sometimes quite inconsistent, somehow this movie works
I skipped F9 for whatever reasons and gathered the plot from Youtube clips afterwards. But since FF saga has been big part of my teenager years and this movie is adversited to be part of the end of this serie, I hopped to cinema and checked Fast X in opening day. And oh boy did I have fun more than I expected.
And I am not gonna even write a long review, there is so much going on that sometimes it kinda gets overwhelming. But I am suprised how well this movie kept itself together. I think it actually succeeds to be best Fast & Furious movie since F7, even if I haven't seen F9.
If you have been a long time fan of this serie and was able to get over the fact that these movies are just purely there to entertain you, I bet you will like this movie. But not only that, this movie seriously aknowledges the past movies and people who have watched most of the movies are in for the treat. And the movie suprisingly made me even slightly emotional in some parts, but what it did the best: it came, it saw and it entertained a shit out of me.
Barbarian (2022)
Great set up and mystery leads to rather simple, tame ending
I went into this film without watching a single trailer and the first two acts of the film were such a delightful journey. It was very exciting to guess and think possible answers and the first act ends very explosively in unexpecting way. From there on, the movie slows down a little bit which is quite refreshing but as we go through the final act, it just doesn't quite deliver the way I wished. Generally, the movie doesn't build up upon the mystery that well and rather leaving things to watcher ficure out (which it kinda does but not in a right way atleast in my opinion), it feels like we're left with not enough explosition to be pulled into the story. The tension is definitely lower in the last act than in rest of the movie, it's by no means a bad ending but the more I think about it, less impressive it becomes.
Acting is overally quite good and few times the main character's actions left me scratching my head, but mostly this movie avoids annoying cliches where the main character is acting incredibly dumb, which I really appreciate. But in the end, for me this is just a one-time enjoyable watch. It's like a horror movie made by A24 but missing their signature elements to elevate this movie higher. 6.5 would be my final rating for this and I do recommend to watch this, it's definitely very fitting and just a good movie for Halloween.
Westworld: Que Será, Será (2022)
Best season so far since season 1 ends up disappointing with its last episode
I really hoped that the finale of this season could handle all its build up, but sadly it couldn't. Sure, Season 5 might be able to end this serie with a high note, if it even gets renewed but I don't really have high hopes.
On paper the finale seems good, but the excecution just doesn't carry it. It feels like the writers reaches the dead end and didn't really know what do. It is still alright, but is purely just a set to for next season.
And I swear the god, it has been ages since the Season 2 post credit scene. Bit too long if you ask me, I really hope they address it and generally, find a way bring this serie to satisfying end.
Sex Education: Episode 8 (2021)
See you soon, what's next?
I enjoyed season 3 of Sex Education a lot. What I appreciate in this show so much, is that it gives space to all characters and excecutes all of the different friendships, relationships near perfectly. Jackson and Adam's dad were especially awesome in this season and this is exactly how you should use the side characters. And the main storyline of the show, Maeve and Otis goes forward quite naturally and the payoff could've not been better. The actors really make you feel how damn in love the characters are with eachothers.
But as in many series, the creators don't seem to know when enough is enough. This show has enough strong, intresting characters to carry the show even if Otis and Maeve would be a stable couple. And like, how many couples have stayed together through this whole three seasons? Not many and even tho they are just 17, I find it being more so a plot device where drama is created for a sake of drama and everyone either breaks up or goes back and forth.
But this all comes together how the next season will be done. I think it would be a huge mistake if they brought Maeve back right away. Like let her stay away for a first half and bring her back later. And for the love of god, do we need more drama between them? No. Atleast I have seen enough of it, I wish they would continue their arc either putting them together fairly fast or just finally deciding that no, they won't be together. Enough back and forth action, it's time to wrap their conflict up and move to other characters.
And I do also hope that this show doesn't run longer than 5 seasons. Sure, it could become a long-running comedy show for a next decade, but hopefully not. But enough about me being worried about future of this serie, so far the journey has been great. Everything is just on point.
The Walking Dead: Acheron: Part II (2021)
Acheron Pt.1 and Pt.2 are not only the best opening episodes since season 6, it is also defining moment by setting the quality of this show where it used to be
I remember staying up till 4am just to watch opening episode of S7 in TWD. It was definitely an experience and after that, the show went downhill. Oh, it went downhill real bad. So bad, that I actually skipped some episodes while watching S8. The show what I loved, turned from amazing to your average bullshit show with shitty writing, poor action and being all-predictable mess. Best episode in S8 was the last episode, because it finally ended the dragging saviours storyline.
And then S9 came, I didn't have high hopes but the first half of the season ended up being pretty damn good. Yes, the problems were still there but if there was one word what I would describe it, it would exciting.
From that on, the show have got some great moments, but the quality of the show has still felt clumsy and awkward time to time. But it was definitely wayy more than watchable and after S8, almost anything would have felt better. The show never reached the magic it used to have, but I never expected it.
Until now. And it isn't exactly the same magic. But the quality, it is there.
Great writing, no, amazing writing. Good action, oh yes. Actually feeling thrilling and terrifying, yes! These two episodes, especially the second one were just so on point, I honestly cannot find a single flaw.
Or well. Negan's decission to leave Maggie and then them being like "naw we cool", you can argue about that but that's just fine for me.
Anyway, I haven't felt like this while watching this show since S6 premiere. Will this last throughout the whole season? Eh, I don't set my hopes up. But I am so glad we are getting ending to this show and so far, it is looking great.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
As expected, better than theatrical cut. But not just that, enjoyable and as its best, amazing movie
We all know the backstory with Justice League. The original, Zack Snyder's vision of the movie has arrived after a long wait. And yes, it is really a step up. The action is more clear, interactions of the characters feels more natural and the last hour of the movie is easily some of the best DCEU I have seen. Plot is explained better and the stake of the enemy, you can actually feel it. I'm very happy that they didn't bring Darkseid into the plot more than they did, it is a great tease and he plays his role as a "big universal villain" quite well. And addition of bringing Cyborg more in the center of movie is wonderful.
Now, it isn't flawless by any means. There are still lines what feel poorly written and scenes what are way too drawn out. I think it could have used some cutting, making the movie around 3.5 hours, but I rather take more character building and plot than rushed version we got earlier. And what still bothers me sometimes, is how Zack is making everything bit too epic time to time.
So, when you go into this movie, don't expect the comicbook movie of the century. If you are a big fan of Zack and give this movie a 10, I'm not here to stop your celebrating, we all have our opinions. Because you all are the reason why this movie is here. But, for non-fans I say this: It is a very good and refreshing superhero movie, what gives me hope for the future of DCEU.
Or should I say, future of Snyderverse.
Man of Steel (2013)
As someone said, this movie aged like an fine wine
Lets clear my position here: I have watched every single Marvel movie, but I love both DCEU and Marvel. There is no taking sides, only the quality of movie matters.
I first watched this movie when it came in theathers, I was 14 years old and I thought the movie was decent. Back then I wasn't really that big of a movie watcher, so I didn't really build specific opinion. Yesterday, I watched Man Of Steel again. This is what I think of it.
This movie was definitely way too overhated back in the days. Possibly because marvel was popping and people's expectations were different. This doesn't mean that this movie doesn't have any flaws, but there is really something special innit.
The vibe and athmosphere there is in this movie, is really unique. Shots of this movie are wonderful and generally, it is just a beatiful movie
So lets go ahead and list the cons of this movie. There isn't a lot of them tho
- Sometimes being bit too overdramatic. There is so many "noooo" and "aaahhh" screaming moments, some of them could have been cut out
- Pacing of this movie is sometimes slightly confusing. When Clark found a ship, I was like "how did we got here"
Other than that, that is all there is. Man Of Steel is wonderful superhero movie, with amazing characters and engaging plot. I honestly think this movie is pretty much on par with Iron Man. I hope DCEU will continue Zack Snyder's vision. Thank you all of the fans, that you made true Justice League happen.
