a snail would have moved quicker
17 December 2001
At the start of this film Lara is chased by a robot & this set the tone for some really poor special effects & action. She then stays in a big castle for another 25 minutes of the film with 2 dull english gentlemen who were really awful to watch in their scenes.

She decides to leave for cambodia on her quest which was to save the world from some men intent on world domination (that hasn't been done before) and befriends them while there. It amazed me as to how they became friends as the bad guys should know not to trust an adversary.

THe statues in the temple there looked like a poor rip off of Jason & the Argonauts but everything in this film was a rip off. The film though was good at this point but once more shut down for 20 minutes with Lara spending her time talking to monks & her father which was pretty lame stuff.

Lara & her friends? then set off for iceland to complete their quest to the dead zone - that sounded cool but it wasn't. The set in the cave they were in looked like one from a 1993 MacGyver film (Trail to doomsday) and macgyver's set was better than this one. The sheer stupidity of the final sequence in iceland where lara escapes everything just cemented this film as another crap blockbuster which should have been a TV movie. Let's hope that this goes the way of streetfighter & a sequel isn't made. It will save a few highly paid jobs in the process

The Mexican (2001)
rubbish
27 November 2001
the Mexican has to be the worst film I've seen in quite a while. It's 2 stars put in really poor performances especially Julia Roberts who proves once again that she has the power to ruin any film she appears in. Her scenes with James GandWhatever put me to sleep especially where they had these deep conversations about sexuality or whatever they were talking about because I was looking at the marks on the wall at the time.

Brad Pitt gets stuck somewhere in Mexico looking for a legendary gun. He manages to keep finding & losing it throughout the film & hears some really rubbishy stories about the origin of the gun which got worse as they went along.

The Mexican really should be avoided not only cause it has Julia Roberts but also it has no good points except 117 bad points divided up into minutes.

well paced thriller
19 November 2001
along came a spider was certainly an above average thriller but it did seem a little contrived at times. Michael wincott's character was built up a lot but just seemed to crumble away when his game was up. Morgan freeman has done roles like this a lot (seven) & he did his part well but a character change is now in order. Monica potter looked too young & pretty to be in this film & didn't really fit her character's part that well.

A lot of this film shows the police forces as idiots which isn't far off but the diamond drop was really unrealisitic & Looked tagged on to keep the film going. The best point of the film was the performance of the girl Megan who showed that not all young kids are nuisances in films.

Along came a spider does its job well but the investigators did really appear to be really dumb which went a bit far on several occasions

Valentine (2001)
decent film
6 November 2001
The first part of this film was ruined for me by a poor tape but saying that the film certainly wasn't a ruin.

The director jaime blanks certainly has improved on urban legend which was a tired reworking of material seen before. Valentine starts off well with a well executed murder of katherine heigl but it gets bogged down for about 30 minutes until the next killing but from then on it has a good pace.

Denise Richards looks a bad actress based on this performance & will end up appearing alongside Lou DiamonD Phillips before long.

Valentine does have a lot of characters who appear to have some part in the murders but this is just the usual way of trying to fool you into thinking there's more to it than that when there isn't.

So the smart people who say I knew who was the killer well you didn't really. You're just boring dull people who probably think that Mel gibson & arnold Schwarnegger films are good

Exit Wounds (2001)
action packed but little else
22 October 2001
I had believed that Steven Seagal's exit wounds would be as good as under siege 2 which was his best film. Exit wounds does start well with a good fight scene but unfortunately the film lacks pace & too often wonders around going nowhere. IT could certainly have done without tom arnold who turns up as unwanted as a weak bowel.

DMX whoever he is seems comfortable in his role but I never really found out what his operation was. The bad cops in the film were good & there was plenty of decent action with them.

Steven Seagal once again proves himself as a top class actor with those scowls & frowns & that calmness he displays everytime he appears in a scene

Not a bad film but a liitle long

Proof of Life (2000)
rubbish
1 October 2001
with this film taking over 2 hours and meg ryan in it meant that this film already had the axe on it. it started well with the war scene in russia but once meg ryan & her moaning arrived i pressed the fast forward button. David morse looked like he was uncomfortable around ryan which was to be expected because she never shut up crying around him. The money negiotations in the middle of the film were lame & went nowhere in the end. The only good point about the film was David caruso who always looks mean & cranky. The ambush scene at the end was excellent made even better that meg ryan didn't appear. the script though was patchy & for the first 30 minutes could have sent anyone asleep and it did the trick for me. a rating for this {4}

Where did don swayze go
18 September 2001
The most puzzling part of this film was where don swayze went. he had finished his role in the film even before the opening credit s came on. pretty strange. Dennis hopper did his best here obviously he's getting on & his judgment is clouded now so no sane actor would have their mame on this film. he chases a man over half his age for about 2 minutes & isn't even tired - strange cause he's 65. There are numerous bad takes in the film - one where a girl looks straight at the camera looking like she's taking instructions from the crew. The plot rambles along with some decent twists but the idea wasn't worked on well enough so in the end the film is disappointing.

burn any effigy of this movie
3 September 2001
I hoped this film would provide a few laughs & I'm still looking for them. This was a pathetic film which went nowhere & just kept keeping up with lame jokes which went on & on. One stupid part where the two guys were taking out rubbish topped the lot & the rest of the film took some topping. If this was supposed to be like bill and ted's films with a galactic plotline well Bill & ted can relax because there won't be a sequel to this trash. Whoever wrote this story must have be stuck after about 2 lines because that's where they should have ripped up their script & started on a new one. The two dudes in this film were so stupid & annoying that they could never be funny & with a stupid supporting storyline which seemed to just get worse & worse. Forget seeing this film. Anyone who does & enjoys it is thicker than all the clowns that worked to make Dude where's my car.

Screwed (2000)
9/10
one of the best films in a while
27 August 2001
Before i saw screwed i had seen some poor reviews & i noticed it had only 7 million in takings at the box office. Well anyone thinking about seeing this movie should discount anything they've heard about it being bad because it is a super ,energertic original film. Norm mcdonald is a superb lead & he carries the film throughout. He has good support from his other actors especially miss Crock.

The film starts with norm as a unappreciated butler who finds a way out of his predicament by stealing miss crock's dog but the dog escapes & He has to think up more ways of making his plan come to fruition. Endless gags ensue & each one hits the mark especially where he is attacked in the park & when Danny devito finds his face plastered around the city.

This was a masterpiece. Don't miss out on it & one more good thing about it was it didn't feature the actor in the last film I saw Mel Gibson who would best be screwed out of his career.

A good opportunity wasted
20 August 2001
I thought mel gibson had packed up making dud films but he's back again with this effort. He hadn't much material to work with here but he really did look out of place trying to be kind to every woman considering his previous efforts in lethal weapon, bird on a wire. This film dragged on for ever with contrived ways of allowing mel to become free of his gift. The episode in the street at tthe end looked like it was written by someone after 10 pints. Helen hunt was the only brighrt part of the film as she always is. She and mel seemed to connect but alas that was the only point in the film where you could believe that there was some sort of chemistry in mel's character towards the women in the film.

Good bye mel. I won't be purchasing any more of your films again & that's the best thing that i have taken out of this film
