Mank (2020)
An Important Hollywood Love Letter
A reviewer here said "a self-absorbed film that doesn't care about it's audience". I agree but not for negative reasons. This is exceptional work from Fincher. An excellent film about Hollywood of the past and one of its most genius and flawed individuals Herman J. Mankiewicz, played sensationally by Gary Oldman.
Oldman is at his true best here. Playing the drunken writer he was born to play. An intelectual, gambler, drunk and witty gentleman that wrote Citizen Kane. Oldman (with his own troubled past) is perfectly cast in the role.
Set design, support cast, cinematography and just about everything in this film is perfect. I watched it on Netflix and as soon as it was over, I watched it again. Sure it divides audiences. But I think that's what makes it so good.
Pure cinema at its best!
The Monuments Men (2014)
Enjoyable
Easy watching type of flick. Could of been a lot better but at the same time it is very enjoyable. Could of done with more Bill Murray.
Be Good or Be Gone (2020)
Very Charming Film
I saw this movie at the Underground Cinema Festival last september and I found it to be sooo charming! Not what I expected at all!
The blurb on the film kinda put me off at first. Sounded like a typical Irish gangster thingy. But it actually isn't. Yes, there are some heavy scenes but its also very funny and poetic in an odd way. Very well written script and the guy playing Weed in it is fantastic! All round though the acting is very good and the music score doesn't sound like the usual silly paddy-whackery that a lot of Irish film have.
It'll be a cult classic for sure. Check it out.
