Ronnie Coleman: The King (2018)
A bit slow and boring, not one mention of steroids?
Ronnie seems like a really good, nice, intelligent guy, and nice to learn his backstory. The documentary itself was pretty slow though, and not all that captivating. I had to laugh when Ronnie said he's never done drugs. I mean... Maybe not those kinds Ronnie, but cmon... But not once are steroids ever mentioned, instead they repeatedly insinuate over and over again that it's his diet and hard work that took him up to 300 lbs at age 40 and made him look like a cartoonish balloon. Many of the bbers look awful and bloated in their old age in the doc because of what they've done to their bodies. But not one mention. The general public is incredibly naive about the massive levels of steroids all these guys do (see how many Google hits ask if Ronnie has ever done steroids... Like... You're not sure??) The least they could do is just be honest.
Things Heard & Seen (2021)
Lost potential
Another dud from Netflix. Not sure where they are getting their writers from but this follows suit as another headlining disappointment.
3 stars just because the cast is great and does well with what they were given.
Plot was too slow, and not in a slow burn kind of way, and also very uninteresting despite seeming like it could have been. Then it devolved into a series of tropes and clichés and unreal stupidity. Predictable start to finish and nonsensical all the way. Don't waste your time.
I Care a Lot (2020)
"Comedy" label is bc the movie is so unbelievably awful
The first half was a decent 5/10, there was some promise in angles in the storyline, though dotted with stupid tropes you'd only find in the head of a 20 something writer in Hollywood.
The second half was... Undescribably dumb. Words don't exist. Every single moment of the 2nd half of the movie. It seemed on purpose - the writers were having fun at your expense that you invested an hour already, they could spoon feed you continuous excrement and be sure you'd have to sit it out.
I really hope pike and dinklage hadn't read the full plot/script when they accepted these roles.
