Inglourious Basterds (2009)
All sweats over the Swastik, yea again and yea in a better way.
The spellbound, seat sticking narrative did get our guts churned up until the last scene. Hitler had given enough content for the desperate filmmakers around the world to attempt the vengeance once in their lifetime just by recreating his dictatorship.
Before even tapping on the play button, we know the ending. The onus to lock our senses onto the screen lies on the director's shoulder. And Tarantino did succeed in this attempt. The intricacies that knitted the scenes were too tempting to rerun the movie. His worth is his grit. Least of all, he doesn't need any certifications from anyone.
Even more than the movie, enjoyed browsing through the trivia. The cast simply added the lavishness to the narration. It's amply worked out cinematography does take us to the WWII era. The rest of the Tarantino's works, you can or can even give a miss for a starter. This is should be in our watchlist and rather climb up to the immediate list.
Neru (2023)
Nothing new other than the dry climax
Courtroom dramas with a backdrop of rape case, where the accused is a rich family son and victim is a helpless girl. This storyline doesn't need an introduction and certainly this movie storyline abused this narrative again with another societal specially abled aspect of blindness. If not 'blind' victim there's nothing new for me write and you to read.
Two famous faces spread on the screen and famous story, it is evident that the sympathy is emphasised and culprit is prisoned. The common viewer expects a hard work of the screenplay and the only effort seems to be IPC section 311. Although director straight away dived into the story, he surprises he maintained to attain were, we were seated for one and he delivered none.
The sense of responsibility multiplies when some topics like courtroom drama, rape case, specially abled victim. The director here solely rested his effort on section 311 and nothing else.
Jai Bhim (2021)
Jai Jai Bhim
Jai Bhim, unequivocally attempted to project the law is same and equal to everyone and lead roles commitment to fight for the same. 'Bhim'rao Ambedkar name is kept forefront of the script. It definitely needs a lauding for the effort.
The appreciation of the effort goes to Suriya with handling the responsibilities of Producer and lead role. It takes lot of courage and will to commit wallet and time for a non-commercial script. His superstar tag definitely carried weightage to the script. The director's courage to stick to heroine less script and depict his will to portray real life Mr. Chandru's role is impeccable. Yea the script carried some loose ends and blank spots, but never diverted from core ideology. The introduction of tribal lifestyle and the crests and troughs of their lives are crisply portrayed within first 20min. 15min of the Chandru's character and then script dives into the main theme and thus the journey of the police cunningness is started. The screenplay is stuff with enough emotion that it subtly squeezed the tears out of eyes. Before we even realize the tears, Surya's aggressiveness consoles us the tribal girls journey of trauma. Prakashraj and Rao Ramesh certainly spiked the emotions. Surya's character cruised through the script with Bhishma's strategy and Bhim's ideology.
Allied (2016)
Walking down the aisle amidst war
The Ally of dark world war with tightly knit family emotion, blended perfectly for all it's worth. The content was crisp and clear, compact and intact without any voids.
Brad Pitt's presence without saying makes his impact. The couple dominated the screen time with their effective chemistry. Brad doesn't need exclusive introduction of the war game. His fifth forsaken attempt of WWII is definitely different and makes it's mark including the last letter. Hope the hollywood scripts more and more similar and sounding stuff with him for us.
The Director restricted himself to end the climax in a much more mature manner and cutoff the scope for sequels.
Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai (2023)
Sirf ek baar toh Banta hain yaar
A dark court room drama, appropriately portrayed with little attention to the screenplay of the events. The writer/Director took extra efforts to elevate the lead role and Subsequently diluting the drama (not as in underdog acting) intended.
There were more than the attempts atleast to the instant memory were portrayed in bollywood itself. Likes of the legend Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, and so on. The point being, the only difference from the above mentioned efforts with the present topic of discussion, is a deep rooted social element of crimes under the roofs of so called Swamijis.
Directlys effort to directly storm into the point instead of beating around the bush, succeeded in it. But the intensive thread of dark court room drama, got diluted in efforts of lead role character elevation. The team could've rather dived deep into the case than the sections.
Nevertheless, even if single devotee realises that idol worship is far better a path to heaven(no intention of proving or disapprove the existence) than the soulless Babas.
The kerala story, meticulously crafted Adipurush kind of scripts were debated to the core, but nonetheless some the effort is not be degraded or derailed.
The effort to commercialize the script was kept to minimum and deserve a lauding.
Manoj ji's acting skills just used to the full. The girl despite few scenes got convinced the common viewer of the atrocity against her and many more in general. Irrespective of the output, the crew should come out and replicate the cases on screen for common man.
The intricacies in audio and video are taken care maturely, like the reclining car mirror, pin drop silence scenes.
"There should be balanced attempts of Bulldozing model and court room justice model I am day to day lives."
Sharmaji Namkeen (2022)
An evening Chai and Namkeen waala family package
There's a tag that is carried in the bollywood. "The Kapoor". Rishi Kapoor is one of the branch in the family tree. The Sharma's Namkeen being his last venture on screen, it is definitely worth a last chance. The adventure in this effort is Parwesh Rawal. He had carried the role to a level that full length portrayal could have even served the Namkeen even tastier. Juhi Chawla is definitely the beautiful and tastier seasoning for the movie.
Since, the demise of the lead role carried the emotions even before watching the film, the end left us getup to the unfinished links. Or maybe the thought was for a second version of the Namkeen. Nevertheless, hoking that any additions is not staged for the sake of Rishiji.
Cold Case (2021)
Neither cold nor a case to follow.
Cold case is after all "cold" blooded murder investigation, tried to serve cold with a switched off refrigerator. Movie is full of loose strings of hair. A suspense thriller script served by trying to garnish with some horror content. Movie had traces of Madhavan's 13B and thus the viewer expects such a stuff, which was never met at any level. Prithviraj police attire and the lead actress parallel path which joins at the end, are nothing but an unconnected ends. As the star Prithviraj is involved, the characters elevation scenes are dull and dumb. Although the medical knowledge involvement helped a little bit, but the essence of the storyline is diluted with prolonged narration. The writer could have chopped down many of the episodes and presented with stuff that makes the viewer involve more.
Ugram (2023)
You can't yeild a growth in field by ploughing on air. Better step on to the ground and sense reality
A hero who's famous for comic roles is pulled into emotional supporting roles within a level of success. Another attempt was made to project the same man into a full fledged emotional script.
Despite no one doubts his acting capabilities, certainly people does limit their imagination to that. Attempting an unsuitable role onto him is a dead end in it's own path.
Apart the lead role portrayal, the writer tried pull out stuff from Hollywood scripts like "Taken", "Memento" and tried to blend them into local taste that failed miserably. You name it immaturity or overenthusiasm or gathering the guts to step into new zone, sufficient homework is supposed to be put into it.
If you gather all the ingredients required for a dish in your mind, the onscreen presentation doesn't cook all by itself. A plain cinematic formula of heroistic introduction, interval and climax fights, a love story, couple of romantic songs, and emotional climax song, a social problem, effort of hero role elevation by some senior and successful character doesn't stitch all by themselves.
The lack of homework and improper character role selection is evident. Apart from these, the quality of post production work is subpar with present day low budget movie scenario.
A kind request to "Allari" Naresh to stick to Allari roles. Not Chillar roles.
Virupaksha (2023)
An immature occult effort
It's an age old story of evil vs good. Despite umpteen attempts on the same, it never loses it vibe. But the effort shall be fruitful only if handled and portrayed skillfully.
This attempt is an inexperienced mind trying to serve a different story, in which he failed miserably. The inadequacy in homework and immaturity in craving the script is inevitable on the screen.
No wonder, it's a big disappointment. Since it can be shelfed as a suspense theme, the main element of surprise is the much awaited ending. If not for that single twist in the plot, the movie is an utter waste of 120min.
The idea of making it as 90s era, but with just inducing a yesteryear landline phone and a jeep model, the viewer's experience cannot be blended into it. Despite the availability of present generation accessible resources, barely they were used and made the audience connect to it. The content in the script is minimum and even the deliverables of the actors are even low. There's not a single department craftsmanship that prompts me to suggest someone to watch it.
Taken (2008)
Taken a spectacular cruise
A meticulously articulated script close to perfection. We can't imagine if not for Liam Neeson, single handedly pulling the onscreen presence. Although there's nothing to point out for cropping or editing the content, the cruise could even be exhilarating if the adventure is extended for 15-20 more minutes. There's not a minute of temptation to pause and grab a popcorn. The narrative kept our bums stick to the seat whole through the run. The spike of the emotions of a kidnapped daughter's dad, a retired agent's tasks in hand to complete his mission are parallelly and spectacularly portrayed. You can't ask for any better in performances.
N4 (2023)
Good for something
The description of the movie in Amazon prime says it's theme as a butterfly effect. The butterfly effect could have been a better fly at some junctures, if it could had narrated with little extra pace.
There's nothing interesting to wait for the second half of the movie, other than the stubborn thought of completing the movie. The stubbornness proves effective with story gathering pace and wait for the end.
There used be a signature of Tamil stories to end with a death. Lately it had been put on hold for whatever the reasons. This script adopted the older trend which proved not that effective.
Ghajini (2005)
Concept is rather an oxymoron of the movie experience. Definitely not a short term memory movie
If a movie is similar to an Hollywood effort, there pops to terms. If it works out, it's called inspiration and if doesn't, it will be called plagiarism.
Never the less, this effort cannot be sidelined just for using the same ingridients as in the original. The hardwork for the homework is clearly visible in adapting and localising the script. The director's signature of perfectness in screenplay is obvious and gives us pure satisfaction upon the end card. If there's something to be complained, it's the commercial stuff like songs.
The suspense and the thrill upon it's revealing is smooth and soothing. Certain episodes/elements in some movies, helps in retaining them in our minds for a longer periods. This fits in that genre very well.
Sita Ramam (2022)
No better fly than this butterfly
A story, meticulously crafted and camouflaged with different emotions. The colorful shades of the butterfly are clearly captured and portrayed. There are some portrayals which we will feel to forget and watch them refreshingly again.
The script makes us traverse through the snow, fire and yet make us suffer the butterflies in our belly. It doesn't end there, tears rolling down the cheeks is pretty and real.
It's hard to hold back the emotions and not spill here the scenes if not story. What I can request is to suppress the boasting I'm making here, and start the movie with least expectations and squeeze the maximum out of the journey.
Rangamarthanda (2023)
Rangamarthanda Brahmanandam
Emperor of The stage play. The flow of serious emotions by the stalwarts of tollywood is the primary role in the movie. A star Director like Krishna Vamsi when handling a strong emotional project, sprouts a lot of expectations from the audience, above all after this dry run of his career.
What the Director want to prove or show in the movie isn't actually conveyed. The presence of atleast two or more greats on screen always asks for some flavour of any essence. And here it is what exactly makes it bland.
Only point clearly shown and felt was the importance of Telugu and just that isn't enough for a two hour transit.
The point to be definitely highlighted is the Brahmanandam's emotional binding and it tied us to the seat for his full munites on screen and wetting of our eyes is inevitable. I'd watch again only and only beacuse of Bhramanandam. Rest is just sufficient once for the cast and director's charm.
Chitralahari (2019)
Title was just to gain attention
Chitra lahari is a programme of 90s in DD channel which telecasts that generation songs. The conundrum of fight between defeat and victory is basically the essence of the storyline.
The relationship of family, friendship, love and professional paths are amalgamated if not finely tuned, are mostly projected maturely. But nevertheless the Director had thought to close the loose ends in a cinematic and emotional way. The closing and opening court room drama is a dry cherry topping, which was an extra purposeless seasoning, even if removed wouldn't have diluted the essence of the storyline. Some dialogues did give a boost to the attempt.
The lead characters did serve the justice to the storyline effectively.
Parole (2022)
Mom, a, Myriad Of Magic
The closing honour is definitely a standing ovation to all the Moms.
The story of a Mom's journey from almost last breath to prye is all the story about. The director's research and presence is all visible all through the scenes. A Mom living in a slum with two kids and their lives artistically, aesthetically presented. Alongside the Director, art director needs an applause. Court proceedings, sketches and response actions are convincingly portrayed to hasten the essence of the scene.
Yea definitely there are short comings, but the emotions overtook them. There are redundant scenes, but at the same time unnecessary songs and drama was cutoff.
Monster (2022)
Try not to search for suspence
The only suspense is in the title. Although there's a doubt, who killed whom and why and such things, but when the screenplay gets entangled, it's more of a confusion than a suspense. It feels as if the Director tried to put himself in the audience seat and clarify the doubts one by one. In such an attempt the effort made the story movement loose.
The lead roles other than honey rose contribution to the story on screen seemed limited. Narration, in my opinion should be last attempt to untangle the knot of the plot. Whilst Megastar of molly wood doing this is just a couple of cups popcorn munching episode. With just a social message tagline, I'll not again take the attempt of watching a meaningless star hero movie. And nonetheless, the third important role of the script, Manchi Lakshmi,.. Better not touch it. Just to gain tollywood market share, a comic character in herself, made a comedy out of the role itself.
Thimmarusu: Assignment Vali (2021)
Wait for the title justification
A court room drama is not so common but nevertheless tollywood has seen numerous compositions of it. The view that differentiates the viewers from rest of the works is this is dealt along with a suspense element at each and every corner of the narration.
Yea, when law is involved the fight shall be between justice and injustice. Hero shall strive hard to retain or struggle to attain justice. No wonder the writer made decent effort to elevate the story and character to a decent level that I took time out of my schedule to type and post this content. You should watch this.
Bhramaji, Ajay, Ravi babu pulled of their roles naturally. The climax episode did dilute the effort of the whole length, but shall not halt us from appreciatong the effort.
The title explanation is artificial, nevertheless it should be held high to reflect our culture.
Seetharamaiah Gari Manavaralu (1991)
Journey between two deaths
The journey between two deaths is the storyline of the movie. There are very few movies, that makes us Experience the emotions each and every time we watch. This exactly fits into that category. Everytime when a full family gathering for any festival or function, after dinner if we can watch this movie, our lives shall give a full life circle feeling.
Movie is based on a family on the banks of Godavari. The storyline exactly conveys life is just like the flowing river with different depths and turns, and finally leading to salt water sea. The climax does takes us to path of salt water.
The whole content is carried by the titular characters, Seetharamayya and his grand daughter. ANR and Meena pulled of the roles with such eloquence, for 130minutes we don't feel they are characters on screen but they are rather someone amongst us. ANR is legend and doesn't need any special mention and Novice Meena on the other hand is a perfect blend of all the emotions. You shall love her once you watch her live through the character.
Naayak (2013)
Nayak didn't lead anything in the movie
If a hero's image starts climbing up the charts, parallelly a directly starts a dual role script for him. Coming to this movie, the paths are not similar but crosses at a point and eventually it shall interval episode.
Two roles evidently asks for two heroines and thus two love love stories. First story does keep us to seats with the presence of Brahmanamdam and the interval episode makes us wait for the second half to clarify things. Here comes the second character story, which lacks anything new and thus makes us ask for the ending. Once the story of second character ends, the major twist is revealed and again Brahmanamdam and first half gang takes over. Comedy episodes are new with definitely VV Vinayak mark. But the age old drama, obvious story and songs, fights hiccups is between make the movie drag.
Good Will Hunting (1997)
Maths does lead to love
There are some movies after we watch them we wish we had never watched them, and there are some other, we wish we forget watching them start all over again. This one certainly falls into the later category.
Math and romance go hand in hand through out the major part of the narration and the formula worked out really well. I quote, the formula and not the hypothesis.
To put it in a mathematical perspective, the roots of movie are perfect making it a perfect square of romance and drama. Perfect square of denail and uncertainty of the lead role. Perfect square of professor and psychiatrist classmates and link to the lead role. Perfect square of friends and love life of lead role. There's no negativity touch that lead to the imaginary root. With mathematics as soul and a face for romance and appropriate limbs made it a perfect character to make time to watch it atleast once if not many times.
Devadas (2018)
Not "The Devadas", A Devadas
It's definitely not boasting to say that Devadas is well known name in Indian household. Right from 50s, movies were made almost all the '___woods'.
When Devadas is again announced in Telugu, where Nagarjuna is the lead while his father immortalized the character earlier, it was thought is it worth a risk.
Whereas when we book a seat to checkout Nagarjuna's Devadas, a major relief is it's not "The DEVADAS", it's a Devadas.
And here comes Nani onto share the screen as Das with Nag as Deva. The story is the fight between good and bad. The villain is just a role with hardly 3appearances overall. And nonetheless the idea good and bad was still kept intact. An innocent good guy striving to change egoist bad guy is the theme and handled very well.
1. Producer Ashwini Dutt's project
2. The title
3. Nag and Nani combination
Handled the script with maturity keeping upto the tag of Vyjayanti movies. An extra star was subtracted for few glitches.
Rama Rao on Duty (2022)
Ramarao's was never on duty
Ramarao is one of the common name in yesteryear generation, so is the commonnes of this story. Pretty much similar with numerous police stories. Hurdles of the genuine police officer and his sttrugle to overcome for reaching a happy ending.
Raviteja's energy is everywhere and anytime. If there's anything new is the heroine's roles and to highlight hero Venu role.
The fights anyway test our patience to wait for the already known ending. Songs didn't disappoint to the level by taking us overseas while we wait for the end. Item girl Anveshi Jain needs a special mention for keeping up to the task. But another aspect of the patience testing episode is the hero's school love life. This episode didn't add any flavour onscreen. It would rather have better feel if narrated by a schoolmate/friend of the Hero.
Goutham Nanda (2017)
Gopichand fan can claim wow
Dual Role movies are not new in 'Any'wood and Gowthamnanda doesn't call for anything new. The aim of the Director was clear on paper whereas on screen it was vague. To compensate numerous loopholes, Hansika and Catherine's glamour was brought on screen.
Gopichand single handedly cruised through the script. His early career negative roles are once again brought screen and he effortlessly portrayed it. As it goes, without content, character can't carry a movie on his shoulders.
Heroines limited scope was fulfilled in songs. Hansika's role didn't fit in. Both the heroine's role swap could've gained an extra mile for reasoning.
18 Pages (2022)
Sensible love story that needs no reason
We'd have certainly come across enough movies that revolve around an old book or similar thing. A 'Love story' in genre, I'd rather quote here a 'Love feeling' was served with eloquence.
Title in itself carries a storyline, thus assuming this part doesn't spill the beans.
Nikhil's story opened up to his usual charm and he carried it along in the first half effortlessly. Second half needed him for the story and justified it to the core.
Anupama's charm did spread over the screen during her part. Undoubtedly every page of 18pages has captured her intrinsically.
The present trend in Telugu movies is to have a character either lead or supporting role with Telangana slang. Sarayu floated on it without disappointing and Supporting Nikhil with proper quantity.
Yea some loose ends and illogical episodes does pop up, never the less movie or emotion is amalgamation of events at right time and place.
