Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
GEN-X: Here is your nostalgia movie on crack
Amazing! Yes, yes, yes....better than the first but in a diffrent way. You get to relive the excitement of your youth with an upscale action movie and no terribly sappy love stories. OMG. 10/10.
We Need to Do Something (2021)
it tried
It only gets 2 stars because Ozzy Osbourne had a tiny piece to do with it. The father is so over top it's distracting. The only likeable character is the boy, and he might have also been the best actor. There is so much streaming contecnt, skip this one.
Bo Burnham: Inside (2021)
Amazing!!!
I laughed and I cried. This man deserves all that is coming his way. Transformational, inspirational, and existential. WOW. Watch this and then watch it again with a friend.
The Edge of All We Know (2020)
Why is something interesting so boring?
This gets 3 stars from me because of the obvious effort involved, the energy of the scientists and the interesting premise, but my attention started to fade. I am insanely interested in this topic, and was looking forward to 100 minutes of useful information presented in a way that would be interesting and engaging. Instead....
Don't bother....so disappointed.
Parental Guidance (2012)
Disappointed
I love Billy Crystal and Bette Middler! I was so excited to see this performance. Meh. I turned it off 1/2 way. I didn't care about any of the characters except maybe the husband, who was a characature of the best husband and father - a stretch. No one is that perfect and understanding. I don't know...there are so many other movies and ways to spend time. Just my two cents.
Downhill (2020)
Wonderful Film!
This movie will be best appreciated by middle-aged married couples who have been parents. The characters were well-developed, the acting what one would expect from Will Farrell and JLD - fantastic! Don't count this one out!
Historical Roasts (2019)
the 1st episode...
IS SO BAD i had to turn it off....offensive, and I am not easily offended...IMHO you, the viewer, have to see for yourself and go from there. Stunningly low - roasts of the living are fair game. This level of offense has to be BRILLIANT in order to pull it off, and it fails miserably.
My Daddy's in Heaven (2017)
meh...couldn't stick with it
Melodrama at its best. Character development is missing. It's difficult to care about any of them. The plot is weak. Everyone grieves at some time and everyone questions their faith. What this movie needed was an inspiring angle. Fell flat for me.
Alex Strangelove (2018)
Wow! Great movie! (as rated by a middle-aged mom)
I think this hit it out of the park! Great movie about millenials coming of age in 2018...a modern "Pretty in Pink", but much smarter. It explores sexuality in a sensitive, intelligent was with laugh-out-loud moments. I wonder if the lower ratings are from younger audiences, who don't appreciate how far society has come, socially. This probably should be rated R for explicit language, but otherwise a great movie to watch with teens you are concerned about and whom you, as an adult, would like to support. Give it a shot! Really fun, interesting, inspiring work!
The Gift (2015)
Spoiler
Behold, the unusual protagonist! So clever, but not very satisfying. I was captivated, but concurrently annoyed. Do watch, but don't hold high expectations above a 5. I LOVE Jason Bateman, and the acting is superb. Have at it while drinking with friends and accomplishing other things, but do have at it!
My Sister's Keeper (2009)
No. Wha'? Seriously?
Oh, geez. I finally got the time to watch this movie about 10 years after reading the wonderful, touching, surprising novel. The ending was changed, which ruined the beautiful, random twist to the entire story that is such a water mark of Jodi Piccoult. I am upset that I wasted my time, but would read the book again and again, as I would ALL of her novels. Take the time to read on this one. The acting was solid and if you don't care to read and like a "Beaches" or "Terms of Endearment" predictable ending, then this is for you. Cheers!
Amber Alert (2012)
Brave beginning to new career...
I applaud these actors/producers for taking chances at the beginning of their careers. Many people never have the bravery to get this far, and it's easy to be harsh from the couch watching Netflix, late night. These guys deserve constructive criticism, not a bashing.
Pros: 1. Fabulous idea in first person shooting that has seen smash hits with, for example, "Blair Witch Project". 2. I cared about the side story of the relationship between the characters.
Cons: 1. These actors weren't seasoned enough to pull off ad lib scripting. Not many actors are. 2. The shouting...OMG...take it down a notch.
This is worth watching if you are willing to give constructive criticism, i.e., teacher, fellow student of film.
Overally, a great start!
