Worth a Watch if You Hate FIFA
20 November 2023
I followed this case when it was in the news and didn't really understand it.

This doco does a really good job of clearing that up.

It's pretty scary how FIFA has no morals unless it's brought up in the public eye.

I think what cemented this for me was just how good a man Craig Foster is and how this really kick started all his exceptional work with refugees and Human rights.

It doesn't lag over the minutaie of the case and keeping your interest through different interviewees.

I found it pretty incredible how they can pick you up over something that involved you in a huge crowd protest years later AND in another country. To think that we don't accept ppl by boat in Australia is a humanitarian issue and an absolute disgrace.

Hidden Australian Gem
23 March 2023
A great little Australian comedy by Anna Lindner whom I'd seen in The Hunting late last year.

Really understood how overwhelming it can all be when everyone is trying to pull you in a different direction when all you want to do is just disappear from the world and all your responsibilities.

Interesting to see how differently others see our parents when we have a very fixed view of them.

For me, Carlo Ritchie stole the show.

Isaiah was a cretin but he brought laughs everytime he was on the screen.

Cassandra Sorell really made me empathise at how difficult it must be growing up in foster homes and how all it takes is one parent to change that.

I recommend this if you like silly Australian comedy and have an hour spare!

Must Watch if a Sydney Sider
26 September 2022
I thought it was just great to see all the different migrant communities represented in a local Australian production. Sure some of them were amateurs but the writing was solid as was the directing.

Sometimes you just don't realise how many different communities make up this great city of ours.

Plus, it was refreshing to see normal looking people represented in a major production and given a go at the roles of the crew as well.

The stories really came together well and I didn't think at any point that it was far fetched or poorly shot.

I'd highly recommend this to all Austalians!

Give it a go!

Watch if You're a Fan of Australian Comedy
3 February 2022
This is a heartwrenching portrayal of what it would be like to deal with dementia and a stroke by a family. Noni Hazlehurst was extraordinary in this and I thought Stephen Curry was fantastic as per usual. The cameo by Darren Gilshenan was a highlight. I'd watch this if you're a fan of Australian comedy. You won't be disappointed. I was welling up by the end!

Why Hadn't I Heard of This
2 February 2022
I think I may have come across this in the SMH but I cannot believe I hadn't heard of it up till now!

Featuring an immediately recognisable cast of accomplished a Australian actors and a great script this movie really is a must watch for any Australian film fan.

Jack Thompson is terrific as is Sara West. Aden Young is excellent as always and Rachel Griffiths is brilliant as the empathetic therapist.

This story makes you mad, sad and empathy. I think the only real bugbear I have is that you didn't get a real FEEL for the main characters and why they were who they were.

Other than that, I'd highly recommend it. Lyndal's is a story of incredible strength, courage and is an inspiration to all that know it!

Definitely Worth a Watch

I was a bit sceptical coming into this but I actually was pleasantly surprised! The writing was good, the storyline zinged and Daisy really stole the show. Good Aussie Fun.

Fasten your seat belt

This is a highly energetic fast paced musical that I found very enjoyable. It's well set up and described and the cast is very talented. It made me want to visit newfoundland. Hopefully, I can watch it live one day.

It's Just Such Good Fun
9 October 2021
The first few episodes were just sensational. I haven't laughed so hard at anything else I've watched this year. I loved the vibrancy of the colours and the subtle expressions in the Actors' faces.

Cecily Strong plays the biggest dork and I absolutely love it. As someone on the spectrum it was refreshing to see Keegan-Michael play someone that was quite clearly on there. It was great to see his progression and how he realised his condition was hampering his relationship with the person he cared most for in the world.

I absolutely loved the mayor. Thought his scenes were acted with so much expression and angst.

The choreography and songs were great fun. The lyrics were hilarious and I could easily watch it again.

It did lag a bit at the end which means I can only give it 9 as you could very easily see where it was going to go but otherwise I'd highly recommend!

I Stuck This Out Because I'm Patriotic When It Comes To Australian TV
9 October 2021
I was hyped for this. It came with great fanfare and a whole host of actors returning from overseas due to COVID.

There were some great performances; most notably from Michelle Lim Davidson and William McInnes but the main pair I just couldn't really feel for.

It did have some key underlying themes that I thought were really important and interesting to see hard it was in the 1980s but I just didn't feel that other things weren't quite right and it was loaded with cringeworthy moments.

I'd only watch this if you really enjoy flagship ABC dramas or if you were a child of the 80s as the attention to detail there was spectacular!

Watched it Twice in One Day and this Movie Hit Me
9 October 2021
Don't be deterred by the first half of this movie which is all battle scenes. It isn't quite as brutal as Saving Private Ryan (there's no blood, guts and gore) but it is necessary as you begin to see the utter stupidity that is war. You empathise with the focused company, get a feel at the position that they found themselves in and witness all the steps that got them there.

The second half hit me for six. It was stirring, brave, emotional and not overblown. They didn't spend too long on love stories nor on trying to make you cry for the sake of it. It's so much more than a war movie, it's a journey, an experience and I got a real outlook at how some companies were treated in war.

I watched it once in the morning as it was expiring on SBS that night and I loved it so much that I had to show Dad before it expired. He loved it as well and has now read up on the history of the whole film, the war and the subjects in question!

Highly recommend.

The first few eps were great but tailed off
27 September 2021
I really liked it but once we were into the story it didn't really add up/make sense. Great cast and scenes means it's worth a watch though.

I Hated It But I Couldn't Stop Watching
27 September 2021
This is inherently predictable, soppy, cheesy and yet, I couldn't stop watching! It does get repetitive and it is quite tame but I enjoy Italian shows. Ricardo's back story is the best ep imo. The premise is a good one and probably why I stuck it out.

Best TV Show I've Seen in 2020
13 September 2021
I watched this over lockdown and it was staggered release on our streaming service in Australia. A word of warning, wait until all 8 episodes are available to stream before you start watching!!! We were literally whiling the days away waiting until the next episode was uploaded. It's just so very very very good. The 3 different aspects of the story, each one as riveting as the other, are compelling and enthralling.

In my opinion, Manuel is one of the coolest and most ice cold cats ever to grace the screen. Loved every minute!

First 3 Eps were good but I wouldn't recommend
13 September 2021
I liked the first 3 eps because I hadn't seen anything about Refugees in Ireland. Aside from that, the plot was full of unanswered questions and it didn't develop characters very well at all. Last 3 eps were a drag and then they wrapped up the entire 5 and a half episode build up in the last 10mins! Left me with a bitter taste in my mouth and really was a bit of a waste of time. Wouldn't recommend.
