Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Avatar (2007)
Very disappointing episode...
This is the kind of episode that happens when the writers are OUT of ideas. It's a very silly premise. It's almost cartoon like Mariska must have been embarrassed having to say those lines Now that I'm rethinking it I'm wondering if a (1) would have been more appropriate Love L&O Hate this episode Can this be the last line please?
Apparently not so let me restate it so that I can finish filling out this form. This episode is terrible. It's not insightful or compelling. There is one actor, the abductor, I forget this name but he is good in the episode and maybe the girl they find but the dialogue is trite and stupid. Can I please be done with this review now that I have 10 lines?
The Conjuring (2013)
Torn about this movie
I think the film is probably about a "B" for me. I think some of the scary scenes are effective for sure but there where some things that really bugged me. For example, I know this is based on a 'true story' but I don't really get the purpose of Patrick Wilson's character. He doesn't seem to add much value as a character and every time Patrick Wilson talks, I almost wanted to laugh. It kind of 'subdued' the horror. The same can be said for some of the makeup. For example, the police officer in the scenes at the end looks like a bad "Will-Farrell-Anchorman Porn Star" - it was annoying.
Vera is pretty good. Ron Livingston is the same in everything he does so I didn't see a lot there. Lili? is pretty good as the possessed mama. All the kids are good....would have liked to have seen more of them.
Gravity (2013)
Fantastic Movie
This is a great movie. Kind of a cross between Castaway and Apollo 13. Sandra Bullock is fantastic in this and I have to admit that George Clooney was getting on my nerves in the beginning because he, once again, was playing that playboy-playful-testosterone-laced-adolescent that he's so good at.
By the middle, I decided that wasn't fair and actually thought he was fantastic in this and ended up wishing he was in it more. But Sandra Bullock is the star! Give that girl and Oscar! Fantastic cinematography - They'll win an Oscar for sure.
I liked the minimalist approach to this.
Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Trophy Wine (2011)
Love Law & Order but...
...in this particular order, there is one actor who was so bad that I felt compelled to write this review. The story line is a good one and the actress who plays the primary wife is pretty good. But what ruined this for my was Adrian Pasdar...truly BAD. I found it so distracting it was difficult to watch the rest of this episode. I've seen him in some other things where he's pretty good but I didn't get this at all.
It came across as trite and contrived and it fact, I was at a loss to understand what he was trying to portray as a character and whoever did his hair should be fired. It was almost caricaturish...it was kind of silly.
