Swimming with Sharks (2022)
Good but would have benefited from a slower pace
I enjoyed this show. It was great escapism: flashy and addicting. However, it felt like a movie edited into 6 episodes with repeated images to expand its runtime rather than a full series. I feel like we got about 2 seasons worth of storyline in 6 episodes. The pace needed to slow down. Even 2 more episodes would have benefited the series.
When Travis began to investigate Lou, it came out of nowhere. There wasn't enough at that point to warrant such suspicion. I'd have liked to see more of his realization and mistrust.
WHY did Lou kill Alex? I still don't understand. How was he a threat to her? Was she simply trying to get closer to Joyce by eliminating her other assistants?
So she was still an intern approving rewrites on a big-budget film? HOW did that trust come about?
More of her backstory was needed (also, why did those flashbacks feel like they were set in the 40s? So weird.) Why was Lou in a mental institution?
I think this could have been great if we had more episodes to flesh out the story and themes, but it just feels like a movie that deleted a bunch of scenes for runtime.
Marry Me (2022)
Say No
J. Lo is so overrated. Her acting is one-dimensional and boring. How does she still get hired? Yes, she looks amazing but it's time to stop taking roles meant for women in their mid-20s. It's embarrassing.
Insatiable (2018)
Doesn't know what it wants to be (MINOR SPOILERS)
I had such high hopes, but this show is a huge mess. While there's some fun moments, tonally, the show is all over the place. The first episode made it seem like we're in for a fun mystery comedy with some fun satire ala "Desperate Housewives" meets "Glee". Then, for the next few episodes we get high camp set in the world of pageants, "Glee" without the musical bits. By episode 8, we're dealing with demon babies and vampires. Black Magic and an exorcism is the focus of episode 9. What is this show ABOUT!???? What is the tone!???? I don't like the constant shift because it confuses the world I am supposed to invest in. I think there's some promise here, but so far, I am irritated by how the story is unfolding and the writers don't seem to know what show they are writing. I wish I didn't invest.
