weirdly goofy for William Gibson
4 April 2022
Possibly the greatest opening to any episode in the show, it's so ominous and off-kilter especially with the chanting theme. The rest of the episode....little too wacky for someone more streamlined like Gibson (though I love how bizarre it gets with the simulation aspects).

Utterly Bizarre Time Capsule
13 March 2022
A window into the early 2000's, when insane coked-out executives really thought a sci-fi action reboot of Looney Tunes was going to be the new hit with the kids. The entire thing is both completely uninspired and totally unique; cobbled together from other cartoons (primarily Looney Tunes (duh), Justice League, Teen Titans and Power Rangers) but from that creating something so weird conceptually it's own thing.

The plots and banter (SO MUCH BANTER) are pretty boilerplate, Ace's voice is incredibly annoying, Duck sounds like Sonic The Hedgehog (but not in a bad way) and everyone else is cartoon regulars. Not really a quality show, but worth preserving for the weird factor.

wish it could stay cute & harmless

Warning: Spoilers
Listen, I know this is the type of show where things will get fixed and go back to normal, but I don't know if my heart can handle watching the sweet boy Iruma be a bastard to everyone. Like, I know it's a comedy and...not real, but I actually don't want to see a sweet character being mean. I'm probably just a pussy....

Grateful For More Mild Shows
27 February 2022
Listen, this has cute anime boys in it, it doesn't shove in annoying female characters and focuses main on the boys, there's some clever and charming dialogue and it DOESN'T dissolve into misery porn near the tail end of it, so I have to give it a lot of props. I'm definitely biased, as what I described above are specifically the kind of things I'm looking for, but I think at the very least people can find this charming and generally inoffensive. Heine is the most interesting and most adorable character I've seen in a while.

The Best Video Game Adaptation
24 February 2022
Man, what an endlessly charming and adorable show. I'm a pretty big fan of the game, and more specifically the aesthetics of the game, and what I think this show nails so specially is the right balance of things from the game and it's own pacing for the show.

While the show obviously couldn't have been made like the 20's/30's cartoons the game emulated (or even the painstaking way the game was animated), the animation work here is still really stellar and still sets out to make connections with those old production styles (the backgrounds that look like real models a la Popeye and lots of modeling references with lip movements and rubber arms) as well as the big band style music working with the rhythm of the show.

The individual plots, while not being uproariously funny, are all cute and endearing, with the voice cast being exceptional and away from the names you usually see in cartoons (Tru Valentino especially, the guy nails it). I'm probably biased for how much this show really hits the spot for me, but it's nice to have something this expressive and happy without any kind of backlash or edginess.

My Name Is Earl (2005–2009)

S 1-2 = 10/10, S 3-4 = ehhhhhhhhh
13 January 2022
Were this only the first two seasons, this may be one of the most perfect series ever put to air. However, for some reason the creators thought they had to "spice up the formula" with Earl going to jail and Crab Man's plot, instead of just... doing more list items? A formula you could do near endlessly as there's no limit to the list and anything could be a story?

Watch the first two seasons though, a masterpiece of sitcom work.

disgusting to look at, but a decent-ish show
4 December 2021
I really, really hate the look of this; the neon vomit crust indistinguishable from 10,000 art styles on Twitter, Tumblr and the like. The comedy is... fine, but the way the animation seems to be desperately trying to crank up the comedy with wildly different energy levels (the voice acting being pretty measured next to insane visuals) does not do it any favors. I will commend them on an interesting release style, not quite a show, miniseries or limited series, but I was really put off.

It's cute, but not a show
8 October 2021
It's really cute and fun, I wish it was more than essentially marketing for a mobile game. Can't we just have light slice of life stuff with cute anime boys? Maybe I'm asking too much.
