Thursday's Child (1983)
Rob Lowe at his best
Although this movie is a little dated now, I still find it an interesting and moving drama. It's based on a true story of a boy with a terminal heart condition, where a heart transplant becomes his last hope. At the time heart transplants were still in their infancy an as a result there is a sad last chapter to this story.
Rob Lowe gives a very moving performance as the boy rechristened Thursday's Child, with far to go. And Gena Rowlands is excellent also as his long suffering mother.
Also look out for a young Tracey Gold as the youngest sibling in the family.
Empire of the Sun (1987)
One of the best movies to date
The first time I saw the movie Empire Of The Sun,I have to admit parts of the film shocked me and even now as I have gotten older I still find myself turning away from the part where Jim's Japanese friend is shot and killed. But movies about disturbing events in history ought to shock us if they have been executed well by the direction and the actors in the film. Everyone worked well together to create a breathtaking and often amazing piece of film history...
