Asteroid City (2023)
Style Over Substance
Near enough the definition of style over substance. At times seemed deliberately boring. Too much effort was spent in an attempt to seem clever, and not enough effort spent trying to be enjoyable.
Occasional lines were enough to raise a slight chuckle, or an exhale of air, but they are much too few and far between in the vast stretches of emptiness.
The impressive cast assembled don't do an awful job with what they've been given, but none of the characters have any depth whatsoever. Even if they were, there are far too many characters to form any kind of cohesion.
It's quirky at best and painfully dull.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: He Said, She Said (2019)
Lacks nuance, very clunky
What I can say is that I appreciate the bravery of a comedy show tackling hard hitting issues. However the way in which it was handled was clunky, unconvincing, and very heavy handed. This would be ok if the episode was funny, but it wasn't especially. It is also very understandable that comedy writers would struggle when tackling difficult topics... But then don't tackle it.
It's a shame because they've shown in the past they can very successfully talk about massive issues, such as in "moo moo", which was one of the best episodes of the show.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Lake House (2021)
Improvement
Better than the last episode, still thought some of the jokes didn't land and high Rosa was slightly cringe.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Good Ones (2021)
Understand what they were trying to do, but very clunky and poorly executed
Didn't hit the mark, wasn't funny and the takes on the issue were beyond basic.
