Lost in Space (2018)
A great plot soiled by bad writing and a weak lead
From the very first episode Lost in Space has been quite intriguing. However Maxwell Jenkins's performance as what one may call the lead, has been wrought with struggle to appear convincing and instead comes off as forced, self-conscious and rather cheesy. In an industry that has an increasing number of incredible child-actors, this seems to be an oversight the show really should not have indulged. This, coupled with the show's writing concentrating way too much on inconsequential events and story arcs perhaps as a feeble attempt to create tension, is quickly turning a show fans eagerly awaited and may well have been hailed a sci-fi classic, into one we're increasingly eager to forget.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Not terrible, but lacked the wit and humor of the first film
I won't say this movie was terrible, but it was really quite disappointing. The first Guardians of the Galaxy I remember I'd absolutely enjoyed. It was funny, witty, well scripted - it was all pieced together very well. While the sequel did have its good moments, it seemed to want to ride on the first film's coattails; rather than make an effort to be a great movie on it's own. Grut's character especially seemed overdone and a bit forced on this one. This franchise really deserves a better sequel. They were off to a great start and it's disappointing and even slightly annoying that they would follow that with such a lukewarm attempt at a sequel.
Dream House (2011)
Crap rating up there ^. This movie is honestly quite good!
That rating (5.7 when i checked) just doesn't make sense. There really should be some way to keep the ratings more fair and accurate.
I'm a big fan of thriller/horror movies and I can assure you that this is miles better than most of the overrated crap that's being churned out every year. It is good even without comparing it to films in its own genre.
I really enjoyed watching this film. It wasn't perfect in every way but it was honestly different and intriguing enough. You reach a certain point in this movie when you'd think "That's it? Another clichéd ending?". But then you realize you've just watched the first quarter of the film. This films takes the story beyond where other films of its kind normally take. And it does so quite entertainingly.
The acting was done well throughout. All characters were portrayed well by their actors. I recommended this film to a bunch of people and everyone I heard from since has liked it. So is this film perfect? Is it brilliant? No. I won't go that far. But it is entertaining, clever and absolutely worth watching.
Diary of the Dead (2007)
Terrible. Unoriginal. Torturous. Oh god.
I just watched a little more than half of this agonizing film, and I just couldn't push myself to take any more. Terrible acting and a stale plot, induced with exaggerated drama and dialogues that sound unbelievably stupid just make this boring and a pain to watch. There is not ONE single actor in this movie who gave a convincing performance. No, I'm not exaggerating.
The zombies? They honestly seem like someone's doing a halfhearted zombie impression to make people laugh. This is by far one of the worst zombie movies I've seen in a long time... no wait, its the worst I've ever seen.
Man on a Ledge (2012)
Movie on a ledge. Plummets to sheer disappointment.
Ed Harris, Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks and a decent trailer. Hmm... the movie's gotta be pretty good at the very least, right?
No. It isn't.
With a painfully long time spent with Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington) on the ledge, the plot seems more and more predictable with every passing minute. But you might still think there could be something more in store.
Wrong again.
To be honest, the plot wasn't bad at all. But the script and the way certain events unfold pretty much ruined it. The ending was terrible; seemed hasty and gives the appearance that there wasn't enough time to fit in a good one. Stale attempts at humor and a weak performance by Genesis Rodriguez didn't help either.
To sum up, the movie is pretty much a waste of time, and certainly not what you would want to watch if you're looking for good entertainment.
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)
Great film. Good entertainment. MI Series redeems itself after a bad third part.
This film is pure entertainment. That's what you expect, and that's absolutely what you get. The story is not exactly unique. But who cares? This movie is about the action, the stunts, the gadgets and even the humor. A brilliant blend of all of that!
There was probably ten short minutes towards the end of the film where the movie seems to drag a bit. But other than for that brief spell, there is hardly a minute in the movie when you're not feeling delighted that you decided to watch this movie. There's plenty of funny scenes too, thanks to a great job in that light by Simon Pegg, who plays Benji.
All-in-all, a great action movie and a must watch.
Don 2 (2011)
Starts off well, seems like the story would get somewhere. Alas, it doesn't!
This movie, which could actually have turned out quite well, was ruined due to the lack of knowing where to draw the line. The plot, that starts off quite well, ends up in a mess, in an unconvincing an overdone attempt to bring about a clever plot. Towards the end of the movie, there are so many unnecessary and unoriginal twists, that the story seems to go round and round in circles, making you wish for the torture to just end. Even the element of deception was quite predictable.
The point in the movie when your dislike would get solidified would be when the character Roma, portrayed by Priyanka Chopra, apparently falls for "Don" (Sharukh Khan) and even under threat of being shot, can't bring herself to kill him! This is the man who killed her brother and who she wanted to destroy for years, according to how the story started in the first part anyway. Not only does this turn in the story go against everything you learn about this character, but it also renders the plot quite unintelligent and in some ways, desperate.
The performance was alright. Quite a few good performances in the movie. Although all Sharukh Khan seemed to be doing most of the time was dishing out one-liners and trying to look good.
If you just want to sit back and listen to stale dialogues and kill some time, do watch this movie. But if you're expecting a good story and an impressive plot, watching this movie is frankly an annoying waste of time.
Mirrors 2 (2010)
A disappointment and a complete waste of time
I'm JUST done watching this film and I'm actually infuriated by a review earlier that said this movie's got all the spooks, scares, etc that you'd expect from a horror film and that its even better than the first one.
This was a disaster, with pretty bad acting coupled with an unoriginal and pointless plot which made this an excruciating one hour or so to watch. Nick Stahl seems to be stepping down the ladder by doing a role in such a poor script.
The first part was miles better although not a great film either. So if you have absolutely nothing in the world you could do instead, including picking your nose, watch it. Actually no, not even then.
