Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes (2010)
Not bad
I haven't seen a cartoon this cartoony in a toons age. It all starts out when Mr. Sherlock Holmes asks Jerry Mouse to fetch his morning paper. Things just naturally escalate into, you guessed it, a Tom and Jerry cartoon. The funny thing is, it makes me laugh. The spirit of the cat and mouse movies of yore is perfectly intact. The first thing that strikes me is how animated it is. There's even some appearances of some Tex Avery characters, and I won't say which ones. Oh, yeah, and Sherlock Holmes does some stuff too. All in all, it's a fun feature, if a little short. I was never much of a Tom and Jerry fan, but I do appreciate the attention to making it a lot like the old cartoons using the new technology.
Underdog (2007)
A cute beagle becomes the rhyme speaking wonder, Underdog.
I enjoyed this movie about a superhero beagle in a sweater. It has its share of problems. There are parts of the story that aren't exactly clear and some of the humor isn't very funny, but when it works, it's very enjoyable, and it ends on a strong 3rd act, featuring some cool flying German shepherd dogs. Jason Lee is great as the voice of Underdog/Shoeshine, who is of course the most lovable character in the film. It's hard to fault anyone for making a film about such a cute pooch. It's not "cool" like those other superhero films, but it certainly fills a niche. The CG is at times pretty amazing. The talking, flying, super-heroing dogs are about as believable as their going to get. And on a whole, the film is pretty watchable. In fact, I was bored and ended up watching it 3 times.
