Alice, Darling (2022)
Exceptionally dull
Avoid this movie and save yourself an hour and a half of complete boredom. The movie is basically just watching, waiting for something to happen. Nothing ever does. You'll watch, wait for something significant about her backstory, and never get it. Then you'll wait for that big climax, but it doesn't happen. And then the credits roll. They put more effort into making the trailer interesting than they did with the movie itself.
Part of me wonders if there was something bigger planned, and they just ran out of time and money, or if this is becoming a new trend, where movies have pointless endings, as if being pointless is something new and edgy.
Willow (2022)
Poor writing and unlikeable characters ruined a classic
There's no way I would have watched past the first episode if Willow hadn't been one of my favorite movies. With Willow as barely an exception, all the characters were terrible. They were a bunch of angsty selfish teens.
Spoiler.........
Their group, sent to rescue the prince, somehow only included one real adult. He was killed almost immediately, and nobody really cared. There was no attempt to save him, no mourning, not even a mention of him. Later, they meet the people who murdered him and decide to drink and party with said murderers, not once looking back on the fact that what would have been their leader was murdered by these people. They constantly had characters act like whiny 2023 teenagers, and use dialog that didn't fit the actual world they were in. I think the writer was a wannabe Joss Whedon, but lacked the ability to use what he'd learned watching old Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes.
