I grew up watching the original series, and though it was full of cheese, I still loved it because the writing was good and the acting was good and the characters were believable and solid. I expected this new series to take liberties on the story line and the characters. I'm okay with that. But if it's so far off from the original, just call it something else, like "Lost in Reboot". Taken on its own, the production values are top notch but the story and characters are dreadful. And it all starts with bad development and bad writing. A good dose of real science instead of the inaccurate drivel in these scripts would go a long way in making the series more tolerable. that and changing the emphasis of the scripts from manufactured, predictable, and uncannily madding DRAMA, at the expense of story and character, to something more akin to reality. And for the love of God, make the men on par in inventiveness, education, and virtue as the women, who outnumber the men (save for Dr. Smith, who's like watching a psychopath on a slow train wreak). I mean, none of the MAIN adult male characters are like-able. To me. Why? Because the writers want conflict at all costs. i dont think I need to elaborate the details here, because other reviews have done that nicely. Now, I can't fault the actors for having to do as they are written and as they are directed, according the a bad script and a bad story idea. In fact, to make my point, I like the level of ACTING that Maxwell Jenkins brings to Will. His nuanced abilities,at only 11, remind me of watching Leonardo DiCaprio and River Phoenix when they were 11-12. But as written, I think the character of Will is a missed opportunity. And needless to say, I think the whole series is a gross missed opportunity, even if it was an original series.
