Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)
Very funny...at times...
I got a kick out of this movie; likely because my age allows me to relate to the 80's theme during a substantial portion of the movie.
I must admit that John Cusack annoys the heck out of me; partially due to the eye liner on both top and bottom lids that can easily be identified in all of his current movies (what a dork). He was in the "favorite actors" category for the classic "Better Off Dead", however "War Inc." best demonstrates the "John" we see today.
Big fan of Rob Corrdry and Craig Robinson. Craig's talents are exploding ever since his breakthrough in "The Office" and it wouldn't surprise me to see Rob Corrdry following suite as a common-day comedian with a very humorous performance.
There are plenty of scenes that had me on the floor laughing...there are also plenty of scenes that did not. A 6 of 10 is just. A little more nudity and less of John Cusack would've had a 7 or higher no problem.
Daybreakers (2009)
Good Movie
This is a really good movie...especially for a vampire movie. Finally an All-Star cast follows through with a heck of a thrill ride. I feel that a 7 out of 10 is outstanding for a vampire movie. I commend Ethan Hawke, Willem Defoe, Sam Neill and Cladia Karvann for great performances across the board. Although the last movie I watched that co-starred Claudia was one of the worst movies I have ever seen (Long Weekend...just awful!); her beauty superseded her reputation in this movie.
Both Ethan Hawke and Willem Defoe are within the "favorite actors" category with titles such as: Training Day, Platoon and Boondock Saints.
With a SciFi tooth a person can not be disappointed with this film.
The Book of Eli (2010)
Enjoyable Movie
I really enjoyed this movie. Possibly because I had watched Legion the night before which was not on the same wavelength. Great performance by Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman. This movie kept my attention from the beginning and was maintained until the credits were rolling at the end.
I enjoyed the secrecy of the book Eli deemed so dear. I enjoyed the plot and storyline and although far fetched most would agree that religion can be very controversial and in many cases lead to war. I just love a good post-apocalyptic movie and this one certainly qualifies. I would recommend this movie to any science fiction lover.
Legion (2010)
Not the worst movie I've ever seen...but close.
Once again another All-Star cast with dismal results. I have been disappointed with Dennis Quaid for quite some time and this disappointment appears to be a common trend these days. Paul Bettany is a great actor and did a good job given the role and lame "one liners".
Spoiler - Does any realize how much two garganuous duffel bags full of assault weapons would weigh? Does anyone realize how much ammunition (both in volume and weight) would be necessary to accommodate say 8 shooters reigning lead upon thousands of seemingly zombie like possessed humanoids. We'd be talking tons folks...not a simple duffel bag weighing 30 pounds each. I can only swallow so "sillyness" at times such as this.
This movie is in no-way as enjoyable as classic demon/angel apocalyptic flicks such as "End of Days" or "The Prophecy". Those two examples are exactly what this movie lacks...possibilities.
No offense to those who enjoyed this flick, but I wish I could've had the 1hr, 28min and 37sec of my life back.
The Crazies (2010)
Not a bad horror flick.
Not a bad flick...especially for a horror film. Of course there are a few silly parts; as there is in any horror film. Great performance by Timothy Olyphant, whom I admire as an actor in Deadwood. This movie strongly resembles a similar plot displayed in "28 Days Later". Although I enjoyed 28 Days Later a bit more, this movie was well constructed (for a horror film). I must compliment Rahda Mitchell for a nice performance. I've never been a big fan however I have only good things to report of her performance in this movie. I actually anticipated a lesser movie and was pleasantly surprised by this film. I might just have to see what other films Mr. Eisner has directed and go from there. A little more explanation on the source of the illness and a few other critical items, I could only discuss with the Producer/Director, would have improved this movie from a 6, to maybe a 7 or even an 8.
Shutter Island (2010)
Loved the mind bending suspense!
I just loved this movie. It is near a 10 rating in my eyes however I try to restrict the 10 rating for a select few. I haven't been a huge Leonardo fan over the past 1.5 decades however this riveting performance was captivating. I truly admire Leonardo's display of acting talents in this A+ film. I really enjoyed the mind bending suspense and thrill which can be experienced from the first scene clear through to the last scene. I must admit I viewed this masterpiece twice in order to answer a few questions, which the second viewing did answer many questions that I was trying to grasp the first time around. I am excited to watch Inception with my new admiration of Leonardo's talents.
The Wolfman (2010)
Quite disappointed....
I must admit that I was sadly disappointed with this production. I was certain with an All-Star cast that it would be worthy of a 6 or more rating. Sadly I was being generous with the 4 of 10 stars mainly due to the elite cast. First off they could've dropped one of the "All-Stars" and spent a dime or two on effects. The wolves in the film were about as realistic as they were in the original. Secondly the wolves would kill at will with swift precision that could not be defended...unless it was of course the Inspector or the only "hot chick" in the flick...at this point there appeared to be a lack of speed, killer instinct and the swift razor claws. Thirdly...gosh...as much as I like flicks that encourage an imaginative mind...it just wasn't good...from any aspect.
Dolan's Cadillac (2009)
Construction 101 meets "C" class production
I must start my review with the expression and/or term "WOW". The main thought with the the expression/term "WOW" is that this production receives a 5.7 vote. This score does not shock me since the production only has a meager amount of votes. Evidently the cast, producers, stage managers, costume designers, homeless people that take bribes, co-producers, and others involved in this film can vote.
I often sit at home and wonder how I can apply construction experience to the revenge on a murderer that took the life of a loved one. I then contemplate an elaborate scheme that has so many flaws that only a person in the industry could point out. Shame on Christian Slater (although I always enjoy his attempt to never change his haircut in the last two decades) and Stephen King for this nightmare idea based on his short story.
Many times on the job when I am working really hard I wonder how my face gets so dirty (not really, it is the 21st century...labor is over...if a machine can't do it, it doesn't get done). I then ponder why I am shovelling dirt (straticically staged in front of a backhoe) with such great effort one shovel at a time for hours...if not days while a perfectly capable machine is sitting there eager to reduce hours and days of work.
One of the many riveting parts of this masterpiece is a lesson. When trapped in a vehicle with overburden material being placed from above(soil in this case) and all four (4) sides of your Cadillac Escalade (2007 - 2010 model) trapped in a vertical hole approximately 10' deep rectangular with absolutely no vertical deficiencies and there is only one escape route (up) what do you do? A) shoot your fully loaded 9mm handgun out the window and through the roof with no hopes of hitting a target or improving your situation, B) choose to remain in the vehicle while being buried alive while using method (A) and screaming annoyingly, or C) put one shot through the moon/sun roof, carefully escape and continue a competitive gig in the prostitution ring of NV? My stomach churns with disgust. Honestly I was hoping for a "True Romance" performance from Christian and a "American Beauty" performance from Billy Badass, Aka - Construction Worker/School Teacher/Murderer/I ruined my acting career by not only accepting but following through with this role.
I applaud this films production and acting. This movie gives hope to everyone that thought creating a movie and acting in a movie was only for select individuals. Now we all know (if you've viewed this fantastic portrait of a poetic, classic and historic piece) that our childhood dreams are now not only possible but can easily surpass the the previous rendering that talents were preffered in the business.
Blindness (2008)
Very Disappointing
What caused everyone to go blind? The blindness began with one character however there was no explanation why. Why would multiple husbands allow their wives to be brutally raped in exchange for food? In the real world the rebellion would've been initiated well before it actually did.
At the end of the movie the first character to go blind suddenly can see again. I presume the rest of the characters will gradually gain their sight back....was that to be implied...who knows? Why was a gun so threatening to everyone when no one can see. Julian Moore could've easily infiltrated at any time to sabotage the opposing group. Where did they get unlimited ammo for the gun? I was very disappointed. A few explanations/answers could've improved this movie dramatically.
The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
Best Western of all time!!
It simply sickens me that this movie is not considered in the top 250. My innards churn with rage as this cineamatical marvel is reduced to such a pitiful rating. This movie is in my personal top 50 if not higher. Released in 1976, this is a timeless masterpiece that I will watch and enjoy for the remainder of my lifespan. I am not a huge Clint Eastwood fan, but simply love his character in this movie. His roll is equivalent to the Spartan King in "300". This movie has influenced my vocabulary and any fan of this movie will use the term "reckon" in their everyday life. If anyone has not seen this movie I strongly encourage. If anyone dislikes this movie or rates it less than an 8 (suprised every vote is not a 10) they are just silly individuals.
Snakes on a Plane (2006)
One of the worst movies I've ever seen!
Anyone associated with this movie, including Samuel L. Jackson, producer, director, Etc. should be ashamed of themselves. This movie is simply horrible and its entire plot and horrible acting made my stomach churn with disgust. Fortunately I did not spend money to watch this viewing catastrophe but wish there was some way I could go back in time and spare the miserable 2 hours I wasted of my life watching this horrible conglomeration of cheese. I wanted to quit the movie only 15 minutes into it, but decided to finish, despite the agonizing pain so that I could truthfully review and vote on this epic disaster. What sickens me even more than the two hours of misery I subdued watching the movie is reading positive reviews of the movie on this website. I am sad that I typically trust most ratings on this website and then find out that this movie is rated way too high. Anything more than a 2 rating for this movie is simply a lie and must have been posted by someone involved with the movie in attempt to trick people into watching it.
Please beware and expect the worst movie production of this decade.
Bowling for Columbine (2002)
Michael Moore Propaganda
This movie starts off informative and appears to be well researched. Then the whole purpose of the movie and all of the statistics and facts were questioned when Mr. Moore begins to impose his slanted political views within this collage of non-sense. I will agree that there are many facts presented in this so called "film". However I strongly agree that some of those statistics are again non-sense. I have huge problem with Mr. Moore trying to influence viewers with his own opinion/spin. I was completely optimistic when I watched this so-called "documentary". I enjoyed the first half, but then after viewing the second half, I had to ask myself if what I saw and believed in the first half was true...probably not.
Apocalypto (2006)
Best movie of '07...if not all time.
The only reason this movie was not more popular is due to the fact Mel Gibson was involved. If his name wasn't controversial this would have exploded in the box office. From start to finish this brilliant masterpiece is full of pulsating action that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand. The brilliant directing and acting really gets the viewer involved. A few parts are graphic, but relevant to the story line. I applaud Mel for his contributions to this timeless piece of art. I pity those of you who did not see this movie in the theater for the sounds and pictures were so impressive. I can't wait to own this masterpiece for future viewings.
