False Positive (2021)
Entertaining Throughout
Welp, I am glad I got my annual Pap smear done a month before watching this film. Otherwise, I would have put it off even more after watching this movie. I found the acting pretty good, but the ending was very predictable. It's a solid 5.5/10 movie.
The Farm (2018)
Why Is This Movie Rated So Low?
I'm glad I ignore the rating number going into a movie, because this movie was great in my eyes. Some of the music was a bit hokey and obviously low budget, but this movie was very unsettling so it didn't matter that much. The movie involves people in extraordinarily small cages that are about to be slaughtered for food. Let me just say that tonight I ate cake for dinner instead of chicken. I actually almost vomited when I saw the chicken on my plate. The thought of eating meat right now repulses me, and I know it's due to watching this movie today. Way to go creators!!
Open 24 Hours (2018)
Solid Horror Flick
I don't have a whole lot to say about this horror flick, except that it was a good one. I liked the background information/story line about the lead. The acting was decent enough and the atmosphere of the secluded gas station was my favorite part of the film. Solid 8/10.
One of Us (2017)
More Please!!
I am a big fan of hippie-commune-cult horror movies. Now, this one didn't quite move me as much as Midsommar did, but it was deliciously engaging. Who wouldn't want to join a cult led by that fine man, Brent? Damn, I know I'd be in. This movie was good.
Swallow (2019)
Interesting, But Not Blown Away
This is one of those movies that kept me watching the entire film, but I wasn't actually moved. It deserves better than a 6, but not quite a 7. It's a 6.5 movie. Acting was decent. Meh..
John Wick (2014)
Keanu Is In It? Okay, I'll Watch
What can I say? The boyfriend loves this film, and I, like the rest of the world, love Keanu. If he's in it, I am okay with watching it. It's an okay movie. When the shooting scenes become unrealistic and excessive, I become a little ho-hum about the film. That's what happened here. Give me Speed, or give me death!! (Speed is my favorite Keanu movie.)
Midsommar (2019)
Just What I Needed
10/10 for the beautiful disturbance this movie caused in my brain. I don't give out many 10s, but this movie ruled. Beautiful pacing, beautiful visuals, I was highly satisfied. After watching Hereditary and being disappointed, I didn't expect much out of this one since it's the same director...but I love, love, LOVED it.
The Hunt (2020)
I Don't Know What This Was
Other than Hilary Swank looking better than ever, this movie was crap. There was absolutely no story line I could follow, which wasn't clever, but annoying. There might have been a few cool death scenes and one-line zingers, but guess what? I watched this movie yesterday and I already forgot what they were. Un-Mem-Or-A-Ble.
1922 (2017)
Great Acting
I don't have a mile long review for this one. 1922 is a solid Stephen King movie..not the best, not the worst. There are some epically disgusting scenes involving rats. What's not to love?
American Psycho (2000)
I Wanted to Be Moved, But Wasn't
After watching Christian Bale in the Machinist, I decided to watch American Psycho. I had such high hopes going in, but was just sort of meh by the end of the film. I love the Phil Collins scene, but I am at a loss for words when it comes to the rest of the film. It's just gonna be thrown in the unmemorable pile for me.
Dumb and Dumber (1994)
Timeless, Comedic Classic
There are very, very few films I could watch 100 times and still be entertained. Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Departed are a few examples. Dumb and Dumber is probably my favorite comedy of all-time. I can probably recite 90% of the movie out loud because I've watched it so many times. It's a classic, brilliant film. If you ever wonder why Jim Carrey is so arrogant in real life, this film is his ticket. Let us not forget Jeff Daniels, whom, my deceased father like to remind us several times, that he is the only actor to go from the serious Col. Joshua L. Chamberlain in Gettysburg to the hilarious Harry the Pooper in Dumb and Dumber. That is versatile acting, and Jeff Daniels is the master of it.
Grandma's Boy (2006)
This Film is Very Underrated
Oh gosh, I love this movie. I love that it is filled with non-A-listers (my favorite kind of movie). I've seen it about half a dozen times and it is laugh out loud funny throughout the entire film. I don't know why I haven't seen the lead actor in other films, but he is damn brilliant.
The Machinist (2004)
Christian Bale is Brilliant..Time to Watch Him in Newsies
Eerie, dark, my kind of flick. The movie explores the dark corners of the brain that few experience in a lifetime. Christian Bale's acting is top-notch. The guy who played Ivan is also brilliant, creepy, and excellent. I give this film an 8 because there were some slow parts and unanswered questions.
House Party (1990)
90's Hip Hop Holds a Special Place in My Heart
My boyfriend turned this flick on after I had watched a dark film - The Machinist. It was a nice transition for my head because I love the 90's and I love hip hop. Whenever I can't decide what music to listen to, I choose hip hop. I wished there was more rapping in this film because the story seemed all over the place.
Gerald's Game (2017)
First Half of This Film Drags
The first half of this film drags on so much that if another TV was playing reruns of the Resident in the same room, I'd turn to watch Bruce Greenwood on that TV instead. Luckily, Gerald's Game picks up in the second half. I love Stephen King, but this just wasn't one of my favorites. It was actually so unmemorable of a film that about a quarter of the way through watching it, I realized I had already seen the film a few years prior. I just couldn't remember if I sat through the whole film. That's not good..lol.
There's Someone Inside Your House (2021)
The Title Wasn't Very Fitting
If I could give this film a 6.5, I would. It wasn't terrible. It wasn't great. None of the cast members were completely insufferable..just slightly. Satisfactory flick. I would watch another one like it again.
Scream (1996)
This Movie is What Got Me Hooked on the Horror Genre
I was just 10 years old when my brother made me watch the full Drew Barrymore and Steve scene on the porch. He wouldn't even let me blink. After seeing that scene, all I would beg for is trips to Massive Video to rent any and all horror films on the shelves. I will say that I watched this movie a few months ago and after the first 20 minutes, the movie kind of sucks..lol. I have to give it a 9 though because it's what got me hooked on horror.
The Strangers (2008)
Something About Liv Tyler's Voice is Nails on a Chalkboard
If it weren't for Liv's voice, I would probably give this movie a 9. I love this flick and the trio of killers. The old truck is beautifully iconic and the stranger door knocks stay with you long after the film ends.
Unfriended (2014)
Some People Should Have Died Earlier Than Others
If it weren't for all the unnecessary screaming, I would have given this film a 7. Some of the exits were unique and I couldn't turn away from the screen which is always a positive. I enjoyed the message of the film - the horrible things you do to others will ALWAYS come back to haunt you in one way or another.
Into the Dark: Tentacles (2021)
Yummy Lead Actor
I dug the first three quarters of this film. The lead actor was easy on the eyes which was much appreciated. What I also appreciated was how this movie jumped right into the storyline from the beginning. I hate it when movies bore me from the getco and take forever to hit the gas. This one did not do that. Where they lost me was at the end of the film. The delusions got too wacky dacky and I feel like something big was lost because of it.
Maid (2021)
Kept Me Engaged
I don't know if it's me, or if television shows have just gone downhill in general, but I am happy to say that Maid kept me engaged throughout the entire season. I was always looking forward to the next episode. I have a hard time finding shows that don't leave me bored and picking my toes by the second episode. I was sad when this one was over!
The Big Lebowski (1998)
Finally Watched This From Start to Finish
This is one of those movies I've seen bits and pieces of, but never sat down to watch the whole thing from start to finish. I finally did last week and wasn't disappointed. It's a solid 7 movie. I think Jeff Bridges is great (I had a ginormous crush on him while watching it). I kind of wish Steve Buscemi had a few more lines because he is excellent in everything he does. All in all, this movie has a solid storyline with great acting. In conclusion, I do believe John Goodman steals the whole show with his displays of delightful insanity.
Tommy Boy (1995)
An American Classic
This movie and the laughs from it never get old. May Chris Farley be resting in peace for he was one of the funniest men in Hollywood. On top of all the laughs, this is just a great feel-good movie. Along with movies like Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Dumb and Dumber etc., I could watch this movie over and over again...
Till Death (2021)
This is the First Megan Fox Film I've Ever Seen
Megan Fox is not a very good actress, BUT, after watching this film, I can conclude that she actually wasn't that unlikable. The movie is a 4 at best. I probably won't remember it a month from now. *shrugs*
Slumlord (2015)
I Love How Absolutely Disgusting the Killer Is
I love this movie. I could watch it again, and then probably again. The killer is disgusting and so unique. I honestly want to meet the guy and shake his hand because it is a job well done.
