The Andy Baker Tape (2021)
Found footage travel channel
The Andy Baker Tape is a film much like a travel channel food show mixed with elements of "Creep".
Jeff Blake has taken a dna test and finds out he has a lost brother (Jeff Baker) from an affair his father had. They spend the day together and film Jeff's pilot test episode for his travel channel shows.
This movies did a great job on replicating a food show because it made me very hungry multiple times how they would highlight the food they ate. The breakfast sandwich look absolutely delicious!
The Andy Baker Tape was effective in being entertaining and engaging. It was a fairly short film so never really has any slow or dull moments.
The Empty Man (2020)
Hear him, See him, Feel him.
The Empty Man (2020) delivers with a intriguing story and intense atmospheric scares. Emphasizing the sounds of foot steps effectively adds a tense atmosphere that adrenaline inducing. One of my favorite sense in a horror movie is from this film. I absolutely loved the cult circling the fire and the events that transpire from this, so effectively horrifying. I well thought out movie that doesn't pander to your usual horror tropes makes this a very unique and enjoyable viewing experience. Borrowing elements from other successful films such as Candy Man, The Ring, or the myth of bloody Mary. This excellent does its job at not being just a mythos teen horror flick.
We Go On (2016)
We go on?
We Go On (2016) Directed by Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton. I really. I really enjoyed there movie "yellowbrickroad" 2010, and was very pleasantly surprised with this haunting story. Miles is looking for proof of life after death in existence of paranormal. (Anette O' Toole) from Stephen Kings IT miniseries plays his mother adding so much in her roll to this film. This is a great example of how to execute a horror film with equal horror and well thought story. Jay Dunn playing Nelson did a excellent job being very terrifying with little amounts of makeup effects. I look forward to Holland and Mittons Harbinger coming this October.
The Evil Dead (1981)
Cult Classis for a reason
There is a obvious reason why this is a cult classic film, in how ground breaking and innovative for its time. Filming for this movie was rough and it becomes obvious when watching it how painstakingling each actor puts in there best effort to bring such a fantastic movie. A group of friends go to a cabin for the weekend when thing go bad immediately. They discover things in the basement and evil forces become released that cannot be stopped. Ashly is such a fun character that it is no surprise that a series of Evil Dead movies have stared him. A very interesting concept that pushes boundaries for sure!
Slaughter High (1986)
April Fools 80s!!
This film is so fun to watch, it captures the feel of the 80s very well in a nostalgic cheesy way. I love the theme song for the movie that plays throughout, and the 80s stylistic vibes are really pleasant for viewing. A group of derelict high schoolers play a prank a nerdy fellow student that leads to a life changing accident. They later get a high school reunion in the mail that might not have the intentions they assume. Horror ensues in a comedic fun way that never gets boring. I recommend watching this movie with a group of friends, one i watch every year for the Halloween season. Happy Halloween!
YellowBrickRoad (2010)
Psychological thriller
A very interesting psychological thriller that kept my attention throughout. In New Hampshire 1940 a town went missing after going on a walk through this trial called the "yellowbrickroad" in the woods under very mysterious circumstances. 70 years later a group get permission to research this trail that has been kept off limits. This movie is very unique in the ideas that the yellowbrickroad throws at them, how it effects each of them mentally. I would put this movie in the same vein as Resolution 2012, because how experimental it is in its storytelling and the story that it does tell. Check this movie out, it is a refreshing new idea that most modern films don't have.
The Unborn (2020)
Left with some unanswered questions
I would give this a 4.5 If I was able. Movie left way to much answered, could of really used a extra 20mins for that reason. Was shot very well and acting was good also. I really enjoyed the atmosphere they had for the movie. I'm a fan of movies that take place during a "night shift" at work.
The Toybox (2018)
It was entertaining
I would say this is worth a watch, but by no way is this a good movie. The concept was kinda original but not very well executed. There was absolutely no character build in this movie, leaving you to no have any care when a character dies. Also the characters in this movie are not reacting properly to others and loved ones dying. I feel the acting was pretty sub par in this flic and really un inspiring.
The Pyramid (2014)
This really could of been something good.
I loved the concept for this movie, but the end result was a bit disappointing. Father daughter archeologists are digging in Ceiro Egypt to uncover this rare 3 sided pyramid. There is little character build with this movie and takes no time for them to get into the pyramid after losing Shortie, there rover. The team fall one by one in this very typical no brains horror movie.
I loved the setting for the movie, and the idea was really good. Besides As Above So Below there are not allot of Egyptian pyramid horror. And I only count the first Brendan Fraiser Mummy in that category. The rest were pretty terrible and I cant even try the Tom Cruise one.
The Echo (2008)
Horror with morality lesson
I thought this was a pretty good horror movie that had a few flaws. Overall well worth a watch and had some decent scare payoffs. Saying this is a slow burn is really what I think is wrong with allot of horror movies coming out in this generation. Trying to get to the jump scares so fast that they don't worry about the story and character build as much.
This movie does a very good job of putting you right in the shoes of Bobby. Just being released from prison, he moves into his mothers apartment she had just passed away in. Hearing fighting and strange sounds while staying there. He also has a abusive cop neighbor with a little daughter and wife.
This is a apartment in a big city that deals with the lives of people living on top of each other. Its easy to ignore you neighbors and not take action when something happening isn't immediately affecting you.
Tideland (2005)
Alice in wonderland
Jeliza Rose is a young girl with two junkie parents. Tideland is about jeliza's journey mentally and in reality as she deals with the death of her parents from drug overdose. The movie makes you wondering what is real or just a part of Jeliza's mind at times. I thought this was a good movie overall and enjoyed it.
Radius (2017)
Interesting thriller/ mystery
I found this movie to a very interesting/ original well thought plot. Story opens with a man awoken from a crash with no amnesia. He soon realizes everyone within a certain proximity of him will die. There is a pretty good payoff and twist in the movie, just wish more questions were answered.
Black Mountain Side (2014)
This is for sure worth a watch!
I thought this was a very well done low budget independent movie. Had good character build and tension throughout the film. I found the archeological part very interesting and the movie reminded me of John Carpenters The Thing in a very good way. Has great body horror and psychological.
