Zombie Love (2007)
This movie was brilliant!
We saw this film at a festival in Atlanta, and it was a lot of fun. The film has interesting characters, great songs, and a fun plot. It not only pokes fun at zombie films, but also pokes fun at musicals. The timing was excellent and the jokes were funny. We use quotes from the movie all the time and can't help but giggle. The music and choreography were fantastic! The costumes and the makeup were well done, and the special effects fit the atmosphere of the film very well. There's a surprise during the closing credits that had us laughing for hours afterwards. I highly recommend this film for anyone looking for a light-hearted film to brighten their day. Be warned though, the songs will get stuck in your head for months!
Oculus: Chapter 3 - The Man with the Plan (2006)
Excellent Short
We saw this short at the DragonCon Film Festival in Atlanta. This is a great brooding short that builds. The creep factor is very high, and it's heightened by the fact that we can see what's happening, but the main character can't.
I thought the beeping alarm clocks were a little too loud and therefore a little irritating, but I'm guessing that was the desired effect. This also could have been due to the sound at the venue where we saw it. It wasn't a great room for movies, acoustic-wise.
The make-up was very good, and the special effects were nice and creepy. Kudos to the team that created this, and we are looking forward to more installations!
The Attic Expeditions (2001)
Intellectually Frightening
The Attic Expeditions is filled with symbolism and hidden meanings. Each backdrop, costume, and film angle enhances the story-line of this rich film. It has a taste of everything from a slasher's gore to a drama's character conflict, all wrapped up in a web of instability and confusion that would make Hitchcock proud. From the moment the film started to its final scene, The Attic Expeditions had my rapt attention. I still see its scenes playing back in my mind as I try to wrap my thoughts around the plot. Finally, a horror movie in the classic tradition of unsettling fear that stays with you for months after you see the film. I can't wait to see it again.
