Dune (2021)
Really really bad movie
I'm sitting here with my brothers watching this piece of crap. It was so bad especially the sound acting direction and photography that we decided to look up the IMDb reviews to see if we were alone thankfully we're not.
Monsters of Man (2020)
I had to fast forward through this
I had to fast forward through this.
When after watching for 10 or 15 minutes I find myself having to fast forward just to double check that the movie is really as bad as it seems to be and then I discover that yup it's really that bad. Well the one redeeming quality of a movie like this is you get to go to IMDB Reviews and read the one star reviews. That does provide entertainment and relief from the totally pathetic excuse this is for a movie.
I feel sorry for any of the actors some of whom seem to have reasonable skills that had to actually endure acting in this movie.
If you are a producer please don't hire whoever wrote the script, directed, or did the cinematography of this extremely bad movie.
The entire thing seems to take place in an overgrown jungle and the cinematography is a confusing mass of overgrown plants with people shooting at each other and mostly missing except for course when they hit and a child blows up or something like that.
The dialogue is at the level of bad comic book material, no really bad comic book material.
There are many other one star reviews here that are more entertaining than mine so I encourage you to move on.
Unbeaten (2009)
Good documentary about overcoming adversity
This good documentary follows several participants in the Sadler's Ultra Challenge 267 miles wheel chair race from Fairbanks to Alaska. It goes on to follow two participants in the Olympic games in Beijing.
Although I am not disabled I have done some long distance athletic events and found myself relating to the challenges faced by these men and women in preparing for and doing what ends up as much or more a mental challenge as a physical one.
Interviews with the men doing the race give insight into them as people and how they live their lives with optimism and dedication. I was inspired by hearing their stories. Beyond the athletic challenges, we learn about overcoming difficulties in life in a way that transcends disability.
Well worth watching.
Dreamtime (2008)
Alluring heartful drama
I likes this short film from beginning to end.
The pace of each scene draws in and tantalizes the viewer as to what may or may not be about to happen next.
Acting is excellent.
Camera work, sound, and music are top rate.
The attention to detail in some scenes is just right in hinting as to what is going on.
This short film that achieves a sense of past history, evolving emotions, and anticipation of the future all melded together.
Bravo.
Taken (2008)
Disturbingly bad script both conceptually and technically
I was very glad to see a large number of well written negative reviews about this really bad movie.
After watching this movie and seeing a very good actor play a scene where the hero tortures someone to death (leaves the room after turning the electricity on) and watching scene after scene of gratuitous violence played out in Segal or Stallone-like comic book style, I had to visit IMDb to see what the reviews were.
I like good action movies (Bourne series, for example). Those good movies have nothing to do with this movie.
Lesson: When evaluating IMDb movie reviews, start with the "I hated it" reviews and see if they make sense. In this case they mostly did. So I have nothing to add other than to emphasize how having the "good" guy torture someone to death just strikes me as bizarre. Shoot the bastard, OK? I almost turned off the movie (I had rented) after that scene but decided to continue watching, perhaps as a lesson to self to ask myself what is it about comic-book like violence that draws me, draws all of us, to some movie plots.
Yes, the age old good defeats evil theme can work. It did not in this case. At all.
