A Haunting in Venice (2023)
Weakest entry by far...but why?
I found this one to be the weakest entry of the 3 by far.
From terrible editing, don't know what Branagh. Was thinking, so many strange jumps and cuts from one area to another. So badly done.
Expect confined, dank, dark scenarios compared to the beautiful cinematography experienced in the first two movies. They tried to rectify this by doing a panoramic vista in the end credits...too little too late.
The acting was on par, but no big headline actors to bring in a feeling of grandeur, a few good actors and actresses from TV who can do the legwork well enough, but the movie still feels very small and cheap compared to the previous.
The final plot reveal was just ATROCIOUSLY unbelievable and ridiculous.
The first detection scene by Poirot at the séance was great, but quickly destroyed by an atrocious chair spinning scene which beggars belief!!!
I LOVED the first two movies, I cannot say I hated the 3rd installment but I was bitterly disappointed.
I can only assume a quick cash grab was the intention of this release or some sort of budget problem hit production midway through and a rushed cheap edit was put together.
If you enjoy a nice crime story, go ahead and give a watch, fans however of the first two movies might walk away with a bitter taste in their mouths.
Justified: City Primeval (2023)
5 Episodes in and Raylan hasn't fired a single shot!!!
Such a watered down disappointment from the original series.
I assume the old Raylan was politically incorrect and now he literally isn't allowed to fire his weapon, coax obvious villain's to try kill him, use any form of violence whatsoever (other than a beating he gave the main protagonist).
A cast of characters I really don't care for at all, they can literally all die it would actually please me since they all so despicable, the lawyer (so corrupt and unlikable), the barkeeper (who cries about his morals and would never be a rat, but just a year or two prior sold out his friends to be slaughtered), the villain's girlfriend (who sells out everybody to be killed by her boyfriend), an obvious 20 yr (meant to be 15) daughter with the voice of a five year old (wtf is with that??)
The only characters I am concerned with is the police team Raylan is working with, the main guy is balls to the wall hardass (love him, takes nonsense from nobody and actually shot a bad guy who tortured a poor innocent girl by pulling her teeth out). Oooh...and by the way, Raylan gives him a disapproving look after the shooting (go figure!!!).
If you want to see a watered down, weak ass Raylan give this show a watch, if you want to keep the Raylan Givens (ruthless, but justified) of old alive give this a skip.
Only kudo's I can give is to the villian, really despicable character. Yet again this is easy to do compared to the old series who's villain's were actually human and not outright psychopaths.
Maybe in the last few episodes Raylan brings the pain...but it doesn't seem likely. In the old series every episode has Raylan do one badass confrontation or scene....not ONE so far.
In the first episode he gets an attempted highjack by robbers with shotguns whilst driving with his daughter, they even threaten his daughter...he does nothing to them. They actually bring back the one robber in episode 4 for a short scene...and we are meant to feel something for this guy who held a shotgun on a family!!! Raylan of old would have put him in the ground.
What Josiah Saw (2021)
Now thats how you do script writing!!!
Script writing and acting take the entire cake with this horror movie.
Each scene had me captivated with the brilliant writing and the force of the acting. No special effects or jump scared needed in this show.
Beautiful photography, unsettling music score and well written story pushed this into a top class horror movie.
Split into three stories with a final closer, each story was as riveting as the previous.
The only fault I can give this show is the cutscene put in when the Jews and Gypsies are referred to by the Bar owner (crime boss), it was completely unneeded since had the acting skills and script to pass this off.
Men (2022)
You will regret giving this a miss !!!
This movie was a masterpiece.
Don't believe the reviews which indicate that it is a slow movie. The tension and uncertainty starts within the first 60 seconds and ratchets up from there.
Beautiful cinematography, BRILLIANT acting by both cast members closing off with some excellent visual effects has made this one of my best horrors of 2022 to date.
Is there confusion over the ending...yes...most certainly but the journey and closure is worth every second of getting there.
Rory Kinnear deserves an Oscar nomination for his performance(s) in this movie. He was brilliant, running the gauntlet from gentle and caring to outright horrifying.
Please don't give this a miss.
The Contractor (2022)
You missing a great show if you go by the 5.8 rating!!!
I am shocked this show is reviewed so low.
Characters are well developed, storyline is well written, acting is great across the board with not a single bad performance.
Action and storyline is realistic and intriguing. Some great action set pieces as the small team battle through the German police and against their own compatriots coupled with a moving and genuine closing.
I cannot fault anything about this movie and am shocked it was rated so low. Perhaps the cast was too white with traditional families and Christian moments throughout the show??
All I can say is if you love mystery, action, spies ect you will love this show.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
A movie about one girls journey to have her sexuality accepted by everyone, everywhere, all at once.
Yes...my description might seem extreme...but that is what this movie is about.
Its actually a very symbolic depiction of what our generation is currently going through ...and what certain individuals are prepared to do if their "identity" is not only accepted ...but acknowledged by all...on their knees.
That said...other than some rather extreme scenes involving plugs and other sex toys, the movie was certainly entertaining.
Some great action, good acting, fantastic humour and also a very emotional story about being accepted and loved by the ones closest too you.
This will not be a movie you will soon forget.
RRR (Rise Roar Revolt) (2022)
Bro-mance to the MAXIMUM....Frigging great!!!
This is by far one of the best Bro-mance movies I have seen in recent years.
My entire family were riveted for the entire 3 hours.
The show has you running an emotional rollcoaster from laughing, to smiling, to crying.
They even put in some brilliant musical numbers....and an amazing dance off. Put the sub-titles on to appreciate the songs even more since the words directly tie into the emotions of the moments on screen.
The two main protagonists even though so difference in character and motivation...the one for revenge ...the other for love are so well matched when put together.
You feel the pain so badly when "betrayals" occur...but are again elated when these two join up again...the unstoppable force and the immovable object acting as one.
The final escape scene from the jail had us rolling on the floor with laughter.
Some great special effects are also on show here.... I shudder to think what this production must have cost...I hope they made their investment back 10 fold.
Give this show a miss if you are unable to suspend disbelief for 3 hours of great fun...or if you are averse to Alpha male toxicity. Only Knights in shining armour here. Great action and bro-mance for the males....lots of eye candy for the females.
Outside the Wire (2021)
Whats up with the negative review....its a damn good action movie
As per my title.
Who is down voting this movie.
Anyone looking for a good action movie will not be disappointed.
Great action, very good acting from all characters.
Fight scenes were brilliant, and I loved the old russian robots which crouch down to act as canons.
I am loving these great actions shows from the Netflix stables...like Extraction and Spectral.
Yet shows like Old Guard with Charlize Theron gets almost a 7...when the action was awful, the acting was atrocious and the storyline ludicrous.....how and why?
