Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! (2015 TV Movie)
10/10
If they can do this with a straight face it deserves a 10
24 July 2015
Entertainment, right? That's what this movie is. OK, maybe sharks can't actually swim and attack in the air instead of in the water but who cares? And, isn't the best tool for saving a city from incoming sharks a chain saw? And, don't you think it would be interesting to watch an actor say his lines as a shark consumes his body up to his waist? And, wouldn't Al Roker and Matt Lauer be the ones reporting these incredible events on TV? Of course! The earnest enthusiasm and seriousness of Fin, the leading man and world's best shark killer is a wonder and he keeps his serious demeanor throughout. The best part of this delightful piece of nonsense is that ALL of the characters manage to perform with a straight face instead of either busting out in laughter or throwing up. This, dear hearts, is pure FUN!

Total (enjoyable) surprise
31 October 2012
I'm not particularly a fan of country music so I watched this first out of simple curiosity. Now I'm hooked. Why? The MUSIC in this show is terrific. I have actually bought two of the songs from i Tunes. And, like I said, I'm not a fan of country music. The plot is FUN. It's interesting. Some reviewer said that it was an obvious plot, but my god, this is TV and if the plot is obvious then so is the on button on your remote. The plot is FUN and it moves -- fast. When some character acts like a jerk his retribution is swift. When two young people look lovingly at each other in the next scene they are bonded. If the rich guy has a reputation for buying his way into politics in the next scene he DOES IT. It's TV and it's fun. The music in the show is amazing to me. I'm a classical music kind of guy but I melted over the performances of "Fade Into You" and "If I didn't know better". Also, the talent who sings these songs is new to me and they have intriguing voices. Surprisingly, one is an Australian and the other is English but they know how to do lovely singing.

Disappointing
9 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Bouncing the camera around does not make a movie shocking. And deep noises off screen don't convey horror. Maybe this will improve but the first hours were awful. The show seemed to be operating without a script. It may be too demanding to ask the writers to begin the story in a light hearted manner so that the coming shocks had a "normal" for impact. The story progressed from deep off screen noises with expressions of shock on the actors' faces to a jiggle the camera sequence with the usual indication that something horrible is about to happen and then to, well, nothing. It probably goes without saying that the plot will depend on shocking monsters that will appear. It needed some monsters in the first hours and it needed to establish "normal" to give a contest for the shocks. It had neither

incredible ocean sailing, fun plot
3 October 2009
Pure enjoyment! I can't understand the low ratings given this movie. I don't care if the plot is obvious or silly or what because I have never had the experience of BEING out on the sea in a 12 meter sailing ship and I have wondered how the shots were filmed! Don't miss this and here's a big pppfffffth to the bums here who gave a 6 or 7 point rating to this incredible movie. If movies are supposed to be fun and entertaining instead of instructional and deep and troubling then this one is tops. You will enjoy the racing of the little wild sailboats near the beginning of the movie -- I had no idea sailing could be so much fun.

Waitress (2007)

Great writing! One of all time ten best movies!
19 July 2008
Movies don't get better than Waitress. The writing was terrific. I'd be smiling over one good line as another one even better popped up. Performances: Keri Russell made me believe that she was actually braving it through her lousy marriage and dominating the situation. Cheryl Hines as hilarious Becky was...well, hilarious. Nathan Fillion as the doctor was the kind of actor I'd like to see more of in starring roles. Jeremy Sisto as rotten husband was convincing. Andy Griffith -- superb portrayal of hard-headed but soft hearted old coot. Eddie Jamison as the flaky Ogie -- superb. And Adrienne Shelly as Dawn....my god...she was tender, believable, funny -- the works. And then I found out that Adrienne Shelly wrote it. And then I found out that Adrienne Shelly directed it. And then I found out that Adrienne Shelly had been murdered. I'm afraid that bit of information was too much to bear. This is one of the best movies of all time. Rest in peace Adrienne Shelly.

Fun on 2 different levels
27 June 2008
You can watch this in two different states of mind: 1. Scared to death, and, 2. Laughing yourself silly. The horror and bloodshed is amazing in both its quantity and its continuity. The shock surprises (like a horror face suddenly popping up in the screen with a loud noise) are quite satisfying. The situations for the characters are hopelessly desperate and they get you involved in the emotion. And so on.

The other state of mind is that you can laugh yourself silly watching this thing. The exaggerations of bloodshed can be hilarious. The impossible options for the characters can be so bad that all you can do is laugh. I am not knocking this film in saying this, because the effects are superb and it is honestly well crafted but sometimes you see some movie that is so wild that you can easily take it on two levels.

Hitman (I) (2007)

We got the wrong movie and LOVED it !
24 June 2008
We rented a different movie but got Hit-man in the case. Wow! What total entertainment it is! We really thought about playing it twice. The action, and the blood, and the gore, and the pretty sexy starlet make this great fun to watch. But, the seriousness of the "hit-man" and the way he stayed in character made this an even better film. The locations were European and a very good travelogue. There was enough logical sense to the movie to keep you rooting for one side or the other, so it kept you watching until those action and nude treats came in. The contest between those hunting the hit-man, and the hit-man's earnestness in pursuing his target kept the movie on track. And then the action made it engrossing to watch.

You will love it or hate it
17 June 2008
I loved it. But I see a lot of comments that hated it. The one thing you WON'T be is bored. The connections between characters and their actions may be improbable but if they were to be probable and ordinary interactions then you wouldn't watch a movie about them. This movie is one shock after another and it kept me surprised and entertained. The acting is superb: Andy Garcia is awesome in his cruelty. Brendan Fraser exceptional in making you love a criminal. Gellar totally believable. Kevin Bacon exciting to watch. Forrest Whitaker superb with every emotion incredibly well projected. Either love it or hate it but don't overlook it.

I can't let that previous comment stand....this is a TEN !
29 September 2007
I've replayed this wonderful movie so many times that I think I've memorized the script. The nuances in it, the performances of even the bit players, and the direction are incredible. Examples (without screwing this up for you -- and I hope I' ve got the correct actors' names for the parts): defense attorney Lane Smith's confident rapping of fingers on the desk as he departs from his abysmal defense opening; prosecutor Austin Pendleton calculated pronouncement of heinous "hy-eee-nus"; the grits cook's (Maury Chaykin?) blank testimony; the tough guy -- Chris Ellis? -- in his confrontations with Vinny; and the incredible southern judge Fred Gwynne who is irresistible with his fancy southern/back east background against Vinny's Brooklyn approach; and Marisa Tomei's incredible performance such as telling Vinny "you blend" and "the baby deah is drinking from the little brook and BAM...". No, this is a great movie and I can't let comments that it's anything less go unanswered.

Drumline (2002)
9/10
I've replayed this movie about a dozen times -- totally entertaining
1 April 2007
Pure, fun entertainment. A lot of the comments I've read here make fun of the fact that the plot is obvious and the movie isn't deep enough for them. But, if you simply want to be entertained and drum the heck out of anything you can reach when the drumlines compete, and if you like to see good looking college kids, beautiful girls' bodies, and see the good guys win then this movie will delight you as much as it delights me. Most of the actors are black and college age and I'm white and in my 70's, but there's a life to this movie that lifts me up every time I play it. Get in the mood for fun and slip this DVD into your player. You'll have a couple hours of pure fun.
